Abstract

Listening, the most commonly utilized language skill, is paramount in everyday communication and educational settings. Recognizing the significance of listening comprehension and the challenges associated with teaching it, researchers have explored innovative methods such as podcasts and audio scripting to enhance listening skills. This study examines the efficacy of employing podcasts through the audio scripting method in improving students' listening abilities. The research adopts a quasi-experimental design with an equivalent control group to investigate the impact of this method on listening learning. The experimental group received instruction through podcasts and audio scripting, while the control group followed traditional listening exercises. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to both groups to measure listening proficiency. The findings indicate a positive correlation between the audio scripting method and enhanced listening skills, with the experimental group showing significant improvement compared to the control group. These results suggest that audio scripting is an effective pedagogical approach for enhancing listening comprehension. Consequently, incorporating audio scripting into the curriculum offers a promising avenue for bolstering students' listening proficiency, which is crucial for their academic success and professional development in healthcare. Further research is recommended to explore this method's long-term effects and potential applications across different educational contexts.

Abstract

Bengkalis folklore is usually told or conveyed orally and has developed in writing. Bengkalis folk tales contain many teachings which will later be specialized to become part of the Malay Teachings (TAM). The purity of the teachings in this folklore should be enjoyed by all groups, including the younger generation. Prospective teachers play an active role in conveying all the Malay teachings contained in folklore to convey the wisdom contained therein. For this reason, the focus of this study is to answer two important questions, namely what the ability of prospective teachers is to find teaching guides and variants of teaching guides that have been successfully investigated by prospective Indonesian language teachers from the people of Bengkalis. This qualitative and quantitative research uses data from this study in the form of data excerpts taken from five Bengkalis folk tales, namely Disobedience; Awang Merah Merah Destroys Pirates; Commander of Bujang Kelana; Tragedy in the Land of Heirlooms; and a Brief History of Datuk Setia Indra Merbau. The findings of this study are that the five Bengkalis folk tales have Malay teachings as the basis or foundation of the Malay character who is obedient to parents and leaders, responsible, deliberative and brave

Abstract

The phenomenon of online gaming is certainly a concern for all parents. Not only in Indonesia but also around the world. Ternate North Maluku is one of the cities in Indonesia that became the site of this current study, which explains the phenomenon of online games taking place and their role in children's autonomous English learning. This study is located in Jerbus Village, South Ternate. To provide more honest and accurate data, the interviews were semi-structured with 11 children aged 7 to 12 years old. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the data analysis and interpretation used raw data, preparing data for analysis, collecting the data on the computer, coding data, relating themes, and interpreting the meaning of themes and descriptions (Creswell, 2009, p. 185). The results of this study explain that online games encourage children to learn English independently without any coercion from others. It also helps them learn English naturally and contributes to children's English acquisition. This research conclusion is that online games have so far only been considered to bring negative influences to children who have been addicted, such as the absence of socialization, lack of social interaction, affecting the quality of learning, and many other negative influences. This current study proves that online games also have a positive side. The positive role is to replace lost face-to-face social interaction with online interaction. Abstract

This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a game called Kahoot to enhance the student's understanding of vocabulary. This study employed quantitative methods, which involved conducting a pre-experimental method and using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research sample comprised 30 eighth-grade students from SMP Gajah Mada Medan. Researchers employed pre-test and post-test instruments based on themes mentioned in Things Around Us. According to the research findings, the Kahoot Game can help students improve their vocabulary. The students' average pre-test score demonstrates this was 61.07. After receiving treatment using the Kahoot game, the score increased on the post-test. Students achieved an average score of 75.33. If we look at the descriptive data, there has been quite a significant increase. The researcher assessed each student's understanding of terminology both before and following the administration of treatment. The t-test formula is utilized to evaluate student's proficiency in language comprehension. The research findings indicate that the statistical computation of the value level of significance is 0.000 lower than sig.0.05 (based on a significance level of 5%). This value indicates a considerable difference between the student's pretest and post-test scores. The results showed that eighth graders at Gajah Mada Middle School could use the Kahoot website to enhance their vocabulary comprehension.
