Abstract

This study examines compensation systems in low-wage employment, focusing on their design, organizational rationale, and outcomes for employers within the context of Human Resource Management. Utilizing a qualitative literature review method, the research analyzes secondary data from sources like Scopus and Google Scholar to provide insights into compensation trends in low-wage sectors. The findings show that compensation systems in these jobs are typically structured to minimize organizational costs, offering low wages, limited benefits, and minimal employee development opportunities. These designs lead to challenges for workers, such as financial insecurity, job dissatisfaction, and restricted career advancement, while organizations face high turnover, decreased productivity, and reduced employee engagement. Although these strategies provide short-term cost savings, they create long-term challenges for workforce stability. The study emphasizes the importance of designing compensation systems that balance organizational needs with employee well-being, ultimately contributing to sustainable workforce development and improved organizational outcomes.

Abstract

Quality of Work Life (QWL) encompasses factors that shape employee satisfaction, well-being, and happiness in the workplace. This study examines the relationship between quality of work life and humor types in the workplace, with compassion as a moderating variable. Humor is conceptualized as verbal and non-verbal communication that elicits cognitive or affective responses, while compassion reflects sensitivity to the suffering of others, coupled with a desire to alleviate it. The sample consisted of 179 hospital nurses in the Jabodetabek area who completed questionnaires assessing the quality of work life, humor types, and compassion. Data analysis using SPSS 22 revealed that positive humor, such as self-enhancing and affiliative humor, was related to quality of work life, whereas negative humor, such as self-defeating and aggressive humor, showed no significant relationship. Compassion moderated the relationship between positive humor and quality of work life. These findings highlight the importance of fostering compassion in hospital nurses to enhance their quality of work life.

Abstract

LGBTIQ individuals in Syrian refugee camps face discrimination, violence, and inadequate protection. Protection policies are often too generalized and fail to consider the specific vulnerabilities of LGBTIQ individuals, increasing the risk of gender-based violence and homophobia. The research titled The International Response to the Syrian Refugee Crisis: A Queer Feminist Analysis of Protection Gaps and the Needs of LGBTIQ Individuals in Refugee Camps uses a qualitative method by conducting a journal review. The results show that healthcare services, legal assistance, and psychosocial support in refugee camps are often unresponsive to the specific needs of the LGBTIQ group, further hindering their access to protection and care. Although international organizations and civil society organizations have made efforts to provide support to LGBTIQ refugees, these responses are often poorly coordinated and limited by a lack of resources. Stronger advocacy, training for camp staff, and the implementation of more inclusive policies are needed to protect the rights of LGBTIQ individuals in refugee camps. This study recommends a Queer Feminist approach to create protection policies that are more sensitive and responsive to LGBTIQ needs, with a focus on developing safe complaint mechanisms and improving access to healthcare and mental support services.

Abstract

This research presents a comprehensive framework for utilizing information technology (IT) to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian logistics management. By employing value stream mapping, we conducted a thorough analysis of the current (AS-IS) business processes involved in humanitarian response. Through this analysis, we identified significant inefficiencies and bottlenecks that hinder the timely delivery of aid. Addressing these challenges, we propose a new (TO-BE) business process model that incorporates the implementation of a warehouse management system (WMS). This innovative approach is expected to significantly reduce lead times by 25%, thereby improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian operations. The proposed framework outlines the key steps and considerations for integrating IT solutions into humanitarian logistics, providing a valuable guide for organizations seeking to optimize their response capabilities and save lives.
