Abstract

This study examines the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an international regime, focusing on their role in shaping the Bandung–Kawasaki sister city partnership. The collaboration emphasizes joint efforts in waste management, water resource management, and air quality improvement. This research raises this question: “How do the SDGs influence the formation of the sister city partnership between the two cities?” Using a qualitative method and drawing on Martha Finnemore and Kathryn Sikkink’s Norm Life Cycle theory, the study finds that the rules, norms, and principles embedded in SDG Goals 11 and 12 prompted the city government to collaborate with Kawasaki in adopting this regime to address Bandung’s environmental challenges, particularly severe trash management issues. Through this partnership, Bandung seeks to leverage Kawasaki’s expertise and technology to advance its sustainable development agenda. Using the Bandung–Kawasaki partnership as a case study, this research contributes to shedding light on the role of SDGs as an international regime.‎

Abstract

This research investigates the application of machine learning classification models for predicting employee job satisfaction, considering demographic, professional, and psychosocial aspects. With a secondary dataset obtained from Kaggle, five supervised learning techniques were applied: Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and Gradient Boosting. The best model was considered to be Gradient Boosting as it achieved the highest accuracy and F1 score. The model's explainability was enhanced with LIME. LIME enhanced the model's explainability. Stress, work-life balance, and job tenure were identified as the primary factors of job satisfaction. These results support the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory and highlight the model's effectiveness in the hands of HR professionals. The study highlights the need to achieve a balance between predictive accuracy and explainability to ethically align the use of AI in HR analytics, aiming to enhance the well-being of employees and the effectiveness of organizations.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Student Worksheet (LKPD) focused on local history, specifically addressing colonialism topics. The objective is to determine the validity and feasibility of the LKPD through evaluations by material and media experts, as well as through limited trials conducted with students from Madrasah Aliyah in Stabat District. This study employs research and development (R&D) methodologies. The developed LKPD underwent validation by two experts: material experts and media experts. The validation results indicated that in the second validation, the material expert assigned a feasibility percentage of 91%, categorized as "Very Valid," while the media expert assigned a percentage of 90%, also categorized as "Very Valid." The trial results were confined to grade XI students, who demonstrated a favorable response with an average score of 87%, categorizing them as "Very Positive." The findings indicate that the LKPD centered on local history concerning colonialism is deemed highly feasible and practical for use in history education at the Madrasah Aliyah level.

Abstract

Open Defecation (OD) practices remain a public health issue in Indonesia, including in Sekadau Regency, which recorded in September 2024 that 70 households still practiced open defecation and 801 households lacked proper sanitation. This study analyzes the implementation of the Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) Program, First Pillar (Stop OD), in Sekadau using Purwanto and Sulistyastuti’s policy implementation theory, which covers socialization, execution, and policy outcomes. This descriptive qualitative study involved 6 categories of informants (n=18) through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, analyzed with an interactive model and triangulation. The main challenge was the limited number of sanitarians (1 for every 4,515 households). Multi-media communication strategies (print, digital, and face-to-face) effectively reached communities, supported by cross-sector collaboration among government, community leaders, and partners such as World Vision Indonesia. Program success was influenced by five factors: capacity building of sanitarians, contextual communication, innovation in addressing resistance, sustainable collaboration, and adaptive monitoring. The findings highlight the need for an integrated approach in implementing community-based sanitation policies to achieve sustainable Open Defecation Free (ODF) status.

Abstract

This article examines the extent to which the Indonesia–Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) has contributed to strengthening bilateral relations. It argues that despite geographic proximity, trade ties remain weak and IA-CEPA alone is unlikely to generate long-term mutual benefits. Employing an interpretivist qualitative interpretivist approach, the study draws on government reports and policy documents to analyze negotiation dynamics and outcomes. The article introduces an actor-centered perspective, showing how limited civil society involvement has constrained the agreement’s potential. It argues that IA-CEPA is unlikely to provide long-term mutual benefits unless the government of the two countries provides a more comprehensive approach to public diplomacy. The findings suggest that without stronger political leadership and more inclusive public diplomacy, IA-CEPA will deliver suboptimal results. The study highlights the need for people-to-people engagement as a bridge-builder for sustainable cooperation.

Abstract

This study examines the freedom of voting rights in the 2024 general election among beneficiaries of the Family Hope Program (Program Keluarga Harapan) in light of Law No. 7 of 2017 on General Elections, analyzed through the perspective of fiqh siyasah. Using a normative legal research method with a juridical-normative approach, the study draws upon constitutional and statutory frameworks. The 2024 election, as the world’s largest single-day democratic event, highlights the principle of direct, free, confidential, honest, and fair participation. However, the research is motivated by the erosion of voting freedom among lower-income groups, particularly beneficiaries of the Family Hope Program, who remain vulnerable to systemic money politics. Findings reveal that from the fiqh siyasah perspective, the principles of siyasah dusturiyah emphasize constitutional order, the symbiotic relationship between state and citizens, and the obligation to protect fundamental rights. Strengthening the implementation of Law No. 7 of 2017, with additional provisions ensuring the right to vote for economically disadvantaged groups, is essential to safeguard equality (al-musawah) before law and government. The study concludes that law enforcement and electoral supervision must be reinforced to prevent authoritarian and exploitative practices, ensuring democratic integrity in Indonesia’s electoral process.

Abstract

This study examines the government policy of Pidie Jaya in preserving the traditional Seudati dance as a strategy for tourism development. The research focuses on how policy implementation addresses challenges arising from globalization, modernization, and declining public engagement, particularly among younger generations. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving government officials, artists, and local communities. The analysis also incorporated policy documents and case studies to evaluate the policy’s effectiveness. The findings reveal that current efforts have not yet produced optimal results in enhancing cultural awareness, tourism promotion, or local economic empowerment. Limited resources, weak monitoring mechanisms, and external cultural pressures remain significant obstacles. The study concludes that stronger financial support, systematic evaluation, and broader stakeholder participation are crucial to ensuring sustainable cultural preservation and tourism growth in Pidie Jaya.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Sufism as a spiritual remedy to the existential crisis faced by modern society. The phenomenon of inner emptiness, psychological distress, and moral degradation poses serious challenges in a materialistic and rationalistic era. In this context, Sufism offers a spiritual approach emphasizing self-purification, closeness to God, and the cultivation of virtuous character. Employing a qualitative literature review method, data were collected from classical and contemporary Sufi texts, scientific journals, articles, and prior research findings. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Sufism plays a significant role in enhancing modern society’s spiritual and emotional resilience. Core values such as sincerity (ikhlas), patience (sabr), asceticism (zuhd), trust in God (tawakkul), and self-reflection (muhasabah) remain relevant for alleviating inner turmoil and providing life with deeper meaning. In educational contexts, integrating Sufism can balance intellectual and spiritual dimensions among learners. This study concludes that Sufism is not merely a personal religious practice but also a cultural and educational approach that addresses contemporary spiritual crises holistically.‎
