Abstract

This study investigated the correlation between students' use of metacognitive strategies and their English achievement in grade XI Science at SMA Advent UNKLAB. The study aimed to explore the level of metacognitive strategy use among students, assess their English achievement, and determined if there is a significant correlation between metacognitive strategy use and English achievement. The research employed a quantitative approach, utilizing descriptive and correlational methods. Data was collected through a questionnaire adapted from Bessai (2018) to measure metacognitive strategy use, and English mid-test results are used for academic achievement. The study includes 118 students from four different classes in grade XI Science. The findings revealed that students exhibit a high level of metacognitive strategy use, with a mean score of 3.71. Additionally, their English achievement is considered good, with an average score of 86. The Pearson correlation coefficient indicated a significant positive correlation (r = 0.374, p = 0.001) between students' metacognitive strategy use and their English achievement. In conclusion, this study recommended that teachers motivate students to use metacognitive strategies for learning English. Further investigations in different school environments and grade levels are suggested for a deeper understanding of this relationship.

Teacher interview was used to collect data on the teacher’s perception on the implementation of PBL, while classroom observation was used to discover the PBL practice in the classroom. In addition, questionnaire was also used to assess the students’ perceptions on the impact of PBL in learning English. The results of this research revealed that: (1) the perceptions of two teachers about the implementation of PBL in teaching English as foreign language are varied from their reasons for choosing problem-based learning; their challenges in implementing PBL in classroom; and the benefits of problem-based learning for students; (2) the teacher had implemented the syntaxes of PBL such as orientation to the problem, organizing the learner, guiding the investigation, developing students’ work and evaluating PBL process. However, the classroom activities carried out was not really suitable with the characteristics of PBL; and (3) the students’ perceptions on the impact of PBL in learning process was largely agreed in terms of the benefit of PBL for them. Detailed findings will be presented and their implications discussed.

Abstract

This study examines the performance analysis of game-based learning systems. The qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive approach allows researchers to explore in-depth understanding and explain the meaning of the phenomena studied, especially in the context of performance game-based learning. By collecting data through a questionnaire, this study evaluates students' perceptions of game-based learning systems. The study results showed that the average flat student responds positively to game-based system learning. This has been proven to increase students' interest, motivation, understanding, and skills. Thus, it is essential to consider its potential negative impacts and implement them responsibly and effectively through system, learning, and implementation games.

Abstract

This literature review explores the evolving landscape of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and examines how traditional methods can be integrated with modern educational needs to enhance language instruction. Initially, ESP focused on specialized vocabulary and discourse practices within specific professional fields, relying heavily on textbook-based instruction and rigid methodologies. These traditional approaches, while foundational, have been critiqued for their limited flexibility, engagement, and broader communicative development. Recent advancements in educational technology have introduced new opportunities for ESP, including interactive learning platforms, personalized instruction, and increased accessibility. These innovations address several limitations of traditional ESP methods by making learning more engaging and adaptable to diverse learner needs. The review highlights the benefits of integrating technology into ESP instruction, such as enhanced student engagement and personalized learning experiences. To bridge the gap between traditional and modern approaches, a balanced method combining face-to-face instruction with digital tools is proposed. Blended learning models and collaborative online platforms offer a more holistic and effective ESP education. However, challenges such as resource constraints, digital literacy, and appropriate assessment methods remain. The review concludes by emphasizing the importance of adopting a balanced approach that incorporates both traditional and modern methods to meet the evolving needs of ESP learners. Future research should focus on overcoming existing challenges and developing innovative solutions to further enhance ESP instruction in a rapidly changing educational environment. Keywords: English for Specific Purposes (ESP), traditional methods, educational technology, blended learning, personalized instruction, interactive learning, digital tools, resource constraints, digital literacy, assessment methods.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of information technology in interactive learning among college students. Data was obtained through the questionnaire, showing that information technology in interactive learning is very effective. Most students responded positively to accessibility, flexibility, interactivity, engagement, self-support, and variety of learning materials. Expressly, 100% of students agreed with the questions about these benefits. However, there were differences of opinion on several aspects. Regarding the suitability of learning speed and style, only 72.7 % of students felt that this system was suitable for their needs, while 27.3% thought it needed more. In addition, 90.9 % of students stated the ease of use and effectiveness of interaction, but some were still dissatisfied with these aspects. The conclusion of this study shows that although most students feel positive benefits from using information technology in learning, several areas need improvement, such as adjusting the speed and style of knowledge and the system's ease of use. Recommendations from this study include increasing system flexibility, optimizing interface design, and providing additional support for students. These findings can be a reference for developers of interactive learning systems and educational institutions who want to integrate information technology into the learning process more effectively.
