Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of Berhala Island as a historical educational tourism destination for the public, students, university students, and teachers. Berhala Island is an entry point to the Riau Islands Province and has historical and cultural significance. The uniqueness of this island lies in its historical heritage related to Jambi Province. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that Berhala Island possesses historical relics connected to the origins of the Jambi kingdom, namely the Tomb of Datuk Paduko Berhala. In addition, the island also preserves evidence of the Japanese occupation in Jambi, such as Japanese cannons, kitchens, and bunkers. These historical remains can serve as valuable educational tourism attractions. Furthermore, the natural beauty of Berhala Island supports the development of experience-based history learning and the preservation of local culture for younger generations and the wider community.

Abstract

This study examines the role of civic spirituality in strengthening socio-cultural values to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation in education. Using a qualitative field study approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. Findings indicate that civic spiritual values integrated into learning activities and school culture effectively strengthen socio-cultural values including mutual cooperation, tolerance, discipline, and responsibility. This integration is realized through habituation activities, subject integration, and cultural practices supporting character formation. Civic spirituality also enhances student awareness of diversity, social responsibility, and global citizenship, aligning with SDGs principles of quality and inclusive education. Success factors include active teacher involvement, a conducive school environment, and relevant local cultural support. The study recommends systematic integration of civic spirituality into curricula and educational practices to advance SDGs achievement, positioning it as a strategic approach beyond cognitive learning toward sustainable character development.

Abstract

This ethnographic study examines social harmony between the Serawai indigenous community and the immigrant population in Cahaya Negeri Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. Using Spradley's ethnographic framework consisting of domain analysis, taxonomy, components, and cultural themes data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with ten purposively selected informants, and documentation. Findings indicate that interaction patterns are harmonious and associative, supported by a local social contract, cross-ethnic reciprocal cooperation, and 25 years of uninterrupted interfaith activities. Key barriers include language differences, cultural gaps, structural limitations in inter-village activities, population growth, and psychological distance. Solutions center on intensifying communal activities, strengthening religious cohesion, developing adaptive attitudes, and optimizing village governance. Four cultural themes underlie the harmonization: the local social contract, unity in diversity, religion as a transcendent bridge, and harmonization as a collective effort. These findings have implications for Education for Sustainable Development, particularly SDG 4, SDG 10, and SDG 16, suggesting that local wisdom systems can inform multicultural education frameworks and national resilience policies

Abstract

Education is the cornerstone of developing human resources who are not only academically excellent but also possess good character and social behaviour. Instilling these values is crucial in preventing conflicts, particularly fights between pupils within the school environment. Therefore, the role of teachers, particularly Social Studies teachers, is highly strategic in shaping and reinforcing social values among pupils. This study aims to: (1) describe the role of Social Studies teachers in reinforcing social values in Year 9 at SMPN 06 Seluma, and (2) describe the social values instilled by Social Studies teachers to prevent conflicts and fights among students. The research method employed was a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. Research findings indicate that the role of social studies teachers in reinforcing social values is crucial in shaping pupils’ social behaviour and preventing conflicts and fights. This role is manifested through five key functions: as educators, mentors, motivators, evaluators, and facilitators. Teachers do not merely deliver lesson content, but also instil values through setting a good example, fostering habits, providing guidance, offering motivation, and monitoring pupils’ behaviour.

Abstract

This research is driven by the identified deficiency in student learning autonomy within Grade V Social Studies, specifically concerning regional economic diversity, where traditional portfolios fail to provide timely pedagogical feedback. The study aims to develop and evaluate an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based e-portfolio designed to enhance learning independence at UPT SD Negeri 066047 Medan. Utilizing a Research and Development (R&D) framework via the ADDIE model comprising Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation the investigation involved Grade V students and employed observation, questionnaires, and documentation for rigorous data acquisition. Empirical findings indicate superior validity, with expert assessments yielding 88.57% for media and 90% for material content. Furthermore, practicality reached 91.67% from educators and 90% from learners, categorizing the tool as highly pragmatic for classroom integration. Effectiveness was substantiated by a significant improvement in learning independence scores, which surged from a baseline of 64,64% to 91.04% post-intervention. Consequently, the AI-integrated e-portfolio is established as a feasible and efficacious instructional innovation, facilitating reflective, interactive, and autonomous learning environments in elementary education. This media serves as a transformative technological alternative to conventional pedagogical instruments, aligning with the needs of modern digital-based curricula.

Abstract

Student well-being is a crucial aspect of education as it influences physical and psychological health, as well as academic achievement. This study analyses the impact of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) on student well-being from economic and psychological perspectives. A phenomenological qualitative approach was used to explore the experiences of children and parents from lower-middle-income families through in-depth interviews and observation. The results indicate that the MBG has not yet had a significant economic impact on reducing household expenditure burdens, as there has been no change in consumption patterns or family financial allocation. From a psychological perspective, students’ low acceptance of the food has led to discomfort, rejection, and a tendency towards negative self-perception. These findings underscore that student well-being is dialectical, necessitating a more comprehensive policy evaluation to ensure alignment with students’ needs and experiences.

Abstract

Technological advances in digital learning have led to the transformation of education through flexible microlearning, but its effectiveness is greatly influenced by the self-regulated learning (SRL) capacity of students in managing their learning processes. This study aims to examine participants' experiences of utilising digital microlearning through the Ruang Karya platform, as well as the role of SRL in promoting continuous learning. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to understand the meaning of the learning experience directly experienced by the participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews until saturation was reached. The results of the study show that digital microlearning provides easy access, time flexibility, and concise, focused material presentation, thus increasing learning efficiency. However, the effectiveness of this is greatly influenced by SRL skills such as time management, goal setting, learning strategies, and self-monitoring and evaluation. Participants with good SRL skills tend to have a more optimal and meaningful learning experience. Integrating microlearning digital and SRL also promotes independent learning, increases intrinsic motivation, and strengthens preparedness to face academic and future challenges. Therefore, strengthening SRL is crucial in optimising microlearning digital as a sustainable learning strategy in the digital era.
