Abstract

There has been a recent increase in the use of screen time by children. Parents nowadays allow their children to use screen time from an early age, which can have a negative impact on their growth and development. Excessive screen time can lead to emotional and behavioral instability, hindering children's ability to interact socially with their surroundings. This is a cross-sectional study conducted in February-March 2024 at five elementary schools in Ciherang Village. Children who meet the inclusion criteria will be given a question about their screen time usage and questionnaire about emotion and behavior problem from the Pediatric Symptom Checklist 17 (PSC-17) questionnaire. A total of 246 children met the inclusion criteria, dominated by girls (52.8%), with median age of 12 years (range 10-14), and an average screen time duration of 121.5 minutes (SD 88.4). A significant correlation was found between screen time duration and attentional disturbance (r: 0.167; p-value: 0.009). However, no significant correlation was found with internalizing, externalizing, and overall PSC-17 subscales. Therefore, it is important for parents to limit their children's screen time to promote their mental health.

Abstract

Indonesia faced a 49.9% mortality rate in 2019 due to diabetes mellitus, predominantly Type 2 DM, accounting for over 90% of cases. This type of diabetes, often complicated, stands as a leading cause of death in the country. Managing Type 2 DM necessitates medical care and self-management education to prevent long-term complications. Effective strategies encompass education, nutritional therapy, exercise, and pharmacological treatment, reliant on adherence, knowledge, and self-awareness. The doctor-patient relationship significantly influences adherence, emphasizing the need for enhanced decision-making frameworks. This study, employing an analytic observational approach with 99 respondents, explores decision-making models for Type 2 DM self-management in primary and secondary healthcare settings. Results from Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis indicate patient (0.253), doctor (0.344), and family (0.312) factors influencing decision-making, which, in turn, impacts self-efficacy (0.330). Family dynamics strongly correlate with self-efficacy (0.550), further impacting self-management (0.679). Recommendations advocate shared decision-making, emphasizing disease knowledge, patient involvement in treatment planning, adequate consultation time, and increased family participation to bolster self-efficacy and self-management in Type 2 DM patients.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that causes hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin function (insulin resistance). The use of glibenclamide has side effects in the form of hypoglycemic and weight gain. This study aims to determine the activity of a combination of 70% ethanol extract of meniran leaves (EEDM) and glibenclamide in reducing blood glucose and body weight of rats against the use of single glibenclamide. A completely randomized design method was used involving 28 rats divided into 7 groups. Normal control (KN) was given distilled water; negative control (K(-)) was given distilled water; positive control (K(+)) was given glibenclamide 1 mg/kgBW, EEDM treatment group doses of 5; 10; 20 mg/kgBB and a combination group of glibenclamide and EEDM 5 mg/kgBB. Alloxan 150 mg/kgBW intraperitoneally (ip) and 30% glucose solution orally were used to induce the hyperglycemic rat model. Blood sugar levels and body weight were checked on days: 0, 7, 14 after treatment. Based on the results of statistical tests showed that EEDM all doses and combinations have antidiabetic activity (p<0.05). The use of a combination of glibenclamide 1 mg/kgBB and ethanol extract of meniran leaves 5 mg/kgBB can also overcome the side effects of weight gain from the use of glibenclamide alone.

Abstract

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can develop in various body regions, with unknown prevalence due to many cases being asymptomatic. Approximately 4% of women may be hospitalized for an ovarian cyst by age 65. This case report details a 45-year-old woman presenting with abdominal pain during menstruation, an enlarged and hard stomach, a painful breast lump, back pain, defecation difficulties, and discomfort during intercourse. Diagnostic examinations revealed a large ovarian cyst with associated symptoms. Cysts on the ovaries are generally discovered accidentally when the patient is having a routine check-up or other gynecological examination. This is caused by ovarian cysts which can be asymptomatic, especially when they are small. If there is suspicion of an ovarian cyst or a mass is found, it is necessary to continue with a physical examination in the form of TTV, abdominal examination and internal examination. Further research is needed to determine the etiology of ovarian cysts and their treatment.

Abstract

Centers of Disease Control and Prevention / CDC (2012), Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a rare disease in which a person's immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system and, if severe, paralysis can occur. The treatment the patient receives is not a cheap treatment, even if treatment is carried out too late it will cause death. This research was conducted to look at the patient profile and treatment profile of GBS patients at the "X" Private Hospital. Method: This research is observational with secondary sampling and a retrospective study on Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) patients in the period 1 January 2019-31 December 2022. The total population in this study was 6 patients. The profile of drug use in GBS patients that was most commonly used was specific/etiological therapy in the form of immunotherapy in 6 patients (100%); privigen (67%) and gammaras (33%). Supportive (symptomatic) therapy is in the form of 100% of neurotropics and 100% of analgesics, and 17% of complicative therapy is in the form of antibiotics. Corticosteroids used are Methylprednisolone (3x2.5 mg – 3x75 mg) IV (50%) and dexamethasone IV (4x 5 mg – 3 x 5 mg) 50%. The most common analgesics used by patients were paracetamol (3x1g) IV (100%), muscle relaxants 16% and GABA analogues 33%. The most commonly used neurotropic is Mecobalamin (3x500μg) IV 100%. GBS treatment follows therapy guidelines, and research needs to be carried out regarding the prevalence of recurrence in GBS sufferers.

Abstract

Tuberculosisis a direct infectious disease caused by germs Microbacterium Tuberculosis. Transmission occurs when TB patients cough or sneeze, germs are spread in the air in the form of droplet nuclei. The use of OAT in TB sufferers based on the duration of OAT consumption can cause a decrease in hematocrit values due to side effects of the drug, namely anemia and thrombocytopenia. The method used in this research is descriptive. This study aims to determine the description of hematocrit values in TB sufferers who received OAT treatment at the Pematangsiantar Raya Community Health Center. The sample for this research was 30 people taken randomlypurposive sampling. The results of the study showed that the results of the examination that received OAT treatment at the end of the second month were 24 people (80%), of which the results of the examination showed that the hematocrit value was low as many as 15 people (62.5%), and normal as many as 9 people (37.5%) shows a low hematocrit value. In the examination of patients who received treatment at the end of the sixth month, 6 people (20%) showed examination results with low hematocrit values, 6 people (100%). The low hematocrit value found in TB sufferers at the end of the second and sixth months of treatment is due to the side effects of the OAT consumed, age, gender and the body's immunity in fighting bacteria that attack blood cells, resulting in a decrease in the hematocrit value. It can be concluded that of the 30 TB sufferers who received OAT treatment at the end of the second and sixth months, the number of sufferers with low hematocrit values was greater than those with normal hematocrit values.
