Abstract

In this study, the influence of friendship support on academic motivation with academic anxiety as a moderator and sense of belonging as a mediator was investigated. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was used, with a convenient sample of 240 undergraduate first-generation students (FGS) from a South African university. Data were collected using an online questionnaire comprising four instruments: The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Psychological Sense of School Membership (PSSM), Anxiety Scale for Undergraduate Students (ASUS) and Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). The simple linear regression analysis results showed that friendship support significantly predicted academic motivation. In addition, the moderation analysis results revealed that academic anxiety did not significantly moderate the relationship between friendship support and sense of belonging. Moreover, the mediation analysis results demonstrated that sense of belonging did not significantly mediate the relationship between friendship support and academic motivation. The findings of the study highlight that FGS should strive to cultivate supportive friendships and enhance feelings of belonging towards their institution to mitigate the adverse effects of academic anxiety and bolster their academic motivation for study success.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology, especially smartphones, has brought significant changes to the daily lives of students, both positively and negatively. One of the emerging negative impacts is the phenomenon of phubbing, which refers to the act of ignoring others in favor of engaging with a smartphone. The purpose of this study is to describe the contribution of smartphone addiction on phubbing behavior in students. The sample of this study was 225 grade VII students. Data on smartphone addiction and phubbing behavior were collected through two questionnaires, including the smartphone addiction instrument which amounted of 16 items and the phubbing behavior instrument which amounted of 15 items. Data were analyzed using SPSS software with linear regression techniques. The findings in this study are the significant contribution given by smartphone addiction to phubbing behavior, seen from the contribution given by smartphone addiction of 66% to phubbing behavior. In addition, the regression coefficient is positive, so it can be stated that an increase in smartphone addiction causes an increase in phubbing behavior.

Abstract

Many Indonesian teenagers identify themselves as avid fans of Korean pop (K-Pop) idols, displaying remarkable loyalty and dedication to their idols. This deep devotion often manifests as celebrity worship, characterized by a parasocial bond between fans and their beloved celebrities. This intense parasocial relationship can pose distractions and detrimentally impact academic performance, potentially fostering academic procrastination. Moreover, this phenomenon is compounded by the pervasive fear of missing out (FOMO), further amplifying distractions and negative effects on academic activities. This research aimed to explore the associations between celebrity worship and academic procrastination, with a particular focus on the potential mediating role of FOMO. Employing a predictive correlational design, the research delves into the experiences of 534 Indonesian teenagers entrenched involvement in the K-pop fandom. The analysis revealed a significant correlation between celebrity worship and academic procrastination, further nuanced by FOMO's partial mediation. The results indicate how celebrity worship affects academic performance and highlight the need for intervention to reduce the impact of celebrity worship on academic performance.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the implementation of marriages carried out by people with mental disorders, namely one of the partners has psychoneurosis or neurosis disorders which are carried out at the Lubuk Batang Religious Affairs Office, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency and analyze them from the perspective of Islamic family law in Indonesia and maslahat. This type of research uses qualitative descriptive field research which describes or describes a situation, symptoms, or event systematically and factually regarding existing facts from primary data and secondary data. Observation, interviews and documentation obtained primary data. Meanwhile, secondary data comes from books, mass media and statutory regulations. As a result, when the wedding was held at Lubuk Batang Religious Affairs Office, people with mental disorders were conscious and healthy, this was because the mental disorders experienced by the groom in the couple were only temporary. As for the conditions and pillars of marriage that have been fulfilled and registered at the Lubuk Batang Religious Affairs Office, then from the perspektive of Islamic family law in Indonesia the marriage is valid. It is different if seen from the mashlahat persepktive, that it is better to avoid this marriage, because this mental disorder can recur at any time and affect family harmony.

Abstract

Multicultural awareness is important for students in the 21st century, and its level needs to be measured using standardized instruments. This study aimed to examine the acceptability of the multicultural awareness instrument developed by Ali (2011) for Junior High School (SMP) students in Sukoharjo, Indonesia. The instrument adaptation process involved five stages with a sample of 308 participants. Acceptability of the instrument was analyzed using the RASCH Model. The research findings present the instrument's ability to measure what is intended to measure, the relationship between respondents and items, and the difficulty level of the items. The results indicate that the multicultural awareness instrument is valid and reliable for application among students. Future researchers are suggested to examine this instrument at the senior high school level and use it as a measure of students' multicultural awareness for experimental research. Moreover, integrating multicultural awareness into the learning process can enhance educational practices.

Abstract

This research intends to examine the effect of role stress and job insecurity on job burnout and nurses' performance in hospitals. Apart from this, this research also explores the mediating role of workplace anxiety in the context of the bond between job insecurity and work-life conflict. Using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, information was gathered by means of a survey of 160 nurses at One of the private hospitals in Surakarta. The analysis was conducted using the SEM-PLS method. The results showed that role stress had a positive effect on job burnout, while job burnout had a negative impact on nurses' performance. In addition, role stress also had a significant direct negative effect on nurses' performance. Job insecurity was found to have a positive contribution to job burnout and a negative effect on nurses' performance. Workplace anxiety was shown to be a significant mediator in the the correlation between employment insecurity and work-life conflict. These findings confirm that job stress and job uncertainty are the main factors that negatively impact nurses' well-being and performance. Therefore, an effective managerial strategy is needed to reduce work pressure, increase job security, and provide psychological support for health workers in order to improve the quality of health services.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of peer counseling guidance in reducing cyberbullying behavior among students at the Daar El Syahid Teluknaga Islamic Boarding School, Indonesia. This study used an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, with 150 students from a population of 500. The sample was divided into an experimental group, which received peer counseling guidance intervention, and a control group, which received intervention as usual. The research instruments used included the Cyberbullying Behavior Scale, Peer Counseling Effectiveness Questionnaire, Observation Guide, and Interview. Data analysis was carried out using an independent t-test, first testing the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance using Kolmogorov-Smirnov or Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's Test. The study showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups after the intervention, with a substantial decrease in cyberbullying behavior in the experimental group. The results of this study indicate that peer counseling guidance effectively reduces cyberbullying behavior among students. The program successfully raised awareness of the negative impacts of cyberbullying, developed coping strategies, and strengthened empathy and digital ethics among students. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for developing counseling programs in educational institutions to create a safer and more inclusive environment for students.

Abstract

This study aims to adapt and validate the Wielkiewicz’s Lifelong Learning Scale (LLS) to ensure its suitability for measuring lifelong learning tendencies among university students in Indonesia. The participants in this study consisted of 808 university students. The adaptation process followed the cultural adaptation guidelines proposed by Beaton et al. (2000), which included forward translation, synthesis, backward translation, expert committee, and test of the pre-final version. Data analysis involved content validity assessment, item discrimination analysis, reliability testing, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results indicated that Aiken's V values ranged from 0.80 to 0.93, item discrimination indices varied between 0.314 and 0.652, and reliability was α = 0.866. The confirmatory factor analysis yielded χ² = 319, RMSEA = 0.056, SRMR = 0.038, CFI = 0.930, and NFI = 0.905, indicating that the model fit the empirical data. Based on these findings, this measurement instrument is deemed valid and can be used to assess lifelong learning tendencies among university students in Indonesia.

Abstract

The mechanism of psychiatric disorders biologically has not been fully explained. The development of the pathogenesis of various diseases lately can be explained through the theory of inflammation. The theory of inflammation that may be related to the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders is the kynurenine theory. From this kynurenine theory, the author tries to construct the mechanism of psychiatric disorders such as those that occur in cases of anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, insomnia to psychosomatic cases and epilepsy. From the various courses of psychiatric disorders, the author concludes that the mechanism of the occurrence of various psychiatric disorders is actually the same, but in the end, what distinguishes the occurrence of certain types of psychiatric disorders is the genetic factor of each individual who experiences it. It is essential to understand the mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders from a biological perspective, as this knowledge serves as a foundation for managing such conditions, particularly through the use of psychopharmacological treatments and other adjunctive therapies.
