Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the use of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media in improving student learning outcomes on the function of milling machine components in the Mechanical Engineering Expertise Program. A quantitative approach was used with a quasi-experimental method with a Pretest-Posttest Design of Two Groups. This study involved two class XI majoring in mechanical engineering at SMA Negeri 1 Semarang as participants. Of the total number of students, 35 students were included in the experimental group, while 35 other students were included in the control group. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation. Prior to implementation, the research instruments were examined through expert validation using Aiken's V, Content Validity Index (CVI), and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics, a Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a Levene homogeneity test, a one-way independent sample t-test, and an N-Gain analysis. The results of the data analysis showed differences in learning outcomes after the two groups received different learning treatments. Students in the experimental group who received learning supported by AR-based media achieved an average posttest score of 84.63, while the control group obtained an average score of 70.49. Hypothesis testing resulted in a t-value of 25.063, which is higher than the critical value of 1.668 at a significance level of 0.05. The test results showed a statistically significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group showed higher average learning outcomes than the control group. The improvement in learning outcomes was also reflected in the N-Gain score, with the experimental group obtaining a score of 0.622, which was categorized as moderate, while the control group obtained a score of 0.286, which was categorized as low. Therefore, the use of AR-based learning media showed a positive contribution in improving student learning outcomes in understanding the function of milling machine components.

Abstract

This study examines the transformational leadership practices of a school principal in realizing an inspirational school in the era of Merdeka Belajar (Independent Learning) at SD Negeri Sawojajar 01 Brebes. The research aims to analyze the four dimensions of transformational leadership-idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration-and their contribution to creating an inspirational school environment. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the principal successfully implemented all four dimensions of transformational leadership. Idealized influence was demonstrated through ethical modeling and commitment. Inspirational motivation was evident in articulating a clear vision aligned with Merdeka Belajar. Intellectual stimulation was applied by encouraging teacher innovation and collaborative problem-solving. Individualized consideration was shown through personalized support and professional development. Supporting factors included the principal's strong commitment and adequate infrastructure, while challenges involved varying levels of teacher readiness and limited resources. The study concludes that transformational leadership plays a pivotal role in translating the Merdeka Belajar policy into an inspirational school culture, offering practical implications for principal training and policy implementation in elementary schools. This research contributes to the literature by providing an empirical and contextualized model of transformational leadership in Indonesian elementary education.

Abstract

Research on the hidden curriculum in pesantren-based institutions has largely focused on its function as a transmission mechanism, while the decision-making process behind its selection remains underexplored. This qualitative single-case study examines the policy deliberation underlying the choice of the hidden curriculum at MA Fattah Hasyim Tambakberas Bahrul Ulum and its relevance to students’ religious character formation. Data were collected from six key informants through in-depth interviews, full-immersion observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal five interrelated themes: (1) formal curriculum crises and inherited doxa as catalysts; (2) philosophical rejection of point-based measurement to avoid artificial compliance; (3) micro-mechanisms of exemplary conduct, visible self-correction, and peer control; (4) cross-arena actor networks conducting informal evaluations; and (5) longitudinal religious habitus amid accreditation tensions. Framed through Bourdieu’s concepts of doxa, habitus, and field, the study shows that pesantren doxa can be consciously reactivated by institutional leaders in response to contemporary educational challenges. This process operates across formal and informal spaces and offers a contextual character education model for similar Islamic institutions. The study also acknowledges the limits of the hidden curriculum, which does not uniformly shape all students.

Abstract

The Mantaa Duku’ tradition among the Western Toraja community contains humanitarian and social values but is practiced within a society that maintains social stratification. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the second principle of Pancasila, “Just and Civilized Humanity,” in the Mantaa Duku’ tradition. This study employed a qualitative phenomenological approach through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentary studies. The findings show that Mantaa Duku’ reflects respect for human dignity, solidarity, social responsibility, and justice through the distribution of meat to different social groups. Although the type and portion of meat differ according to social status, all community members receive a share, and the distribution is conducted openly. The tradition has also adapted to religious and social changes while maintaining its humanitarian values. These findings indicate that Mantaa Duku’ functions not only as a cultural practice but also as a means of implementing the second principle of Pancasila in the social life of the Western Toraja community.

Abstract

The development of students’ morality and discipline is important in addressing moral challenges among adolescents. This study aims to describe the implementation of the mentoring program, analyze strategies for fostering students’ morality and discipline, and identify the challenges and solutions at SMA Negeri 6 Palembang. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving five purposively selected informants, consisting of a mentoring program supervisor, a mentoring tutor, the principal, and two students. Data were analyzed inductively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with source and technique triangulation to ensure validity. The results show that the mentoring program is conducted regularly every Tuesday and Thursday after the congregational Asr prayer through Qur’anic recitation, religious talks, and material delivery by alumni tutors. Students’ morality and discipline are fostered through role modeling, advice, special attention, habituation, and rewards and punishment. The main challenges include limited time, inconsistent attendance, the absence of external mentors, and differences in mentoring materials. Solutions include peer-tutor training, strengthened communication with parents, stricter attendance procedures, and standardization of mentoring materials. The study implies that structured and flexible mentoring can support students’ moral and disciplinary development.

Abstract

This study investigates how competence, delegation, and knowledge sharing are associated with early-career employee performance in star-rated hotels in Denpasar City, Bali, and whether workplace communication mediates these relationships. Drawing on the performance framework of Gibson et al., the study positions workplace communication as a process through which individual and organizational resources are translated into coordinated work behavior. An explanatory quantitative, cross-sectional design was applied to 125 permanent or contract employees aged 18–35 years with six months to five years of organizational tenure. Data were collected using a 25-item five-point Likert questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in SmartPLS. The measurement model met the specified reliability, convergent-validity, and discriminant-validity criteria. The structural model explained 43.1% of the variance in workplace communication and 49.5% of the variance in performance. All direct and indirect hypotheses were supported. Delegation had the strongest effect on workplace communication (β = 0.376), knowledge sharing had the strongest direct effect on performance (β = 0.328), and workplace communication positively affected performance (β = 0.243). Workplace communication provided complementary partial mediation for the effects of competence, delegation, and knowledge sharing on performance. The findings emphasize structured delegation, interactive knowledge sharing, competence development, and routine two-way feedback as mutually reinforcing practices for early-career employees in hospitality.

Abstract

The Asahan River is one of the major rivers on the east coast of Sumatra that served as the lifeline of trading activities for communities along its course, from the upstream area around Lake Toba to its estuary at Tanjung Balai Port. This article aims to reconstruct the role of the Asahan River in trading activities during the Dutch colonial period of 1867–1942, and to examine the obstacles and maintenance efforts undertaken to sustain the flow of trade. This study employs the historical method comprising heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, drawing on colonial archives (Algemeene Secretarie, Binnenlandsch Bestuur), memories van overgave, contemporary newspapers, and Dutch East Indies reports. The findings show that after Asahan was established as an afdeeling in 1867, the Asahan River played a central role in connecting the upstream downstream relations that had existed since the Sultanate of Asahan, while also serving as the main route for mobilizing plantation commodities tobacco, rubber, palm oil, gambier, and tea to Tanjung Balai Port for export. The river's navigability was repeatedly disrupted by siltation caused by sedimentation and upstream land clearing for plantations, which the colonial government addressed through dredging, road and railway construction, and the partial relocation of port functions to Teluk Nibung. This study contributes to the historiography of rivers in Sumatra, particularly the still under-studied east coast region.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the social network of modern pesantren in Banten, which includes network structure, relationship patterns, and network effects on the actors involved. The phenomenon of rapid growth of modern pesantren requires a deep understanding of the social mechanisms that support its sustainability. This study uses a qualitative approach with a multisite case study strategy in six modern pesantren spread across Banten Province. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with kiai, administrators, and teachers, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The results of the data analysis showed that the network structure placed the founder/leader of the pesantren as a central actor (hub and bridge), supported by families and alumni networks. The relationship pattern formed was open but selective, including equal and unequal relationships based on trust and shared values. The network effect was proven to significantly increase institutional knowledge capacity, social legitimacy, as well as economic independence and resource management. In conclusion, social networks function as strategic capital and social infrastructure for the sustainability of Islamic boarding schools. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of network institutionalization and strengthening partnership governance, and it is recommended for future research to examine the dynamics of digital networks in the pesantren ecosystem.

Abstract

Early childhood is a critical period for developing curiosity and observation skills, yet initial observations at TK Bumi Bahari showed that learning remained conventional, with children passive, rarely asking questions, and inattentive when observing. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of simple science-based educational play tools (APE) in improving curiosity and observation ability among early childhood children. Method: A quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was used in the 2025–2026 academic year, involving seven Group B children who took part in three APE activities: Color Tree, Magic Magnet, and Float or Sink. Data were collected through observation and documentation, then analyzed descriptively and with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The average curiosity score increased from 57.6 to 83.0, and the average observation score increased from 55.2 to 88.5, with both improvements significant at the 0.05 level, leading to rejection of the null hypothesis. Conclusion/Implication: Simple science-based APE were effective in improving children's curiosity and observation ability in this setting; given the small single-group sample, replication with larger samples and a control group is recommended.

Abstract

This study examined the leadership competence of Akidah Akhlak teachers, the discipline of Grade VIII learners, and the relationship between the two at MTs Negeri 1 Sidrap, Indonesia. Teachers are expected to cultivate religious practice in the school community, yet violations of school rules, particularly lateness, persist among learners. A quantitative ex post facto design with a psychological approach was used. The sample comprised 65 learners (two intact classes, VIII F and VIII G) from a population of 175. Data were collected with Likert-scale questionnaires (11 items for leadership competence, 17 for discipline; Cronbach's α ≈ .91 for each) and analyzed with descriptive statistics and simple linear regression in SPSS. Learners rated teachers' leadership competence (M = 32.03, SD = 7.26) and reported their own discipline (M = 49.71, SD = 10.97) at a moderate level, near its upper boundary. Discipline was weakest on timeliness-related behaviors. Leadership competence was positively and significantly associated with discipline (r = .693, p < .001) and was a significant predictor, accounting for 48.1% of its variance (Ŷ = 16.151 + 1.048X). These findings imply that strengthening teacher leadership, through role modeling, habituation, and school policy, may support learner discipline in madrasahs.
