Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of mental health on communication ethics in social media among students of SMP X. The research employed a quantitative approach with a survey method. The population consisted of 240 eighth-grade students, and 200 of them were selected as the main sample. Data were analyzed using a simple linear regression test assisted by SPSS version 26. The regression equation obtained was Y = 50.575 + 0.415X + ℮, with a tvalue of 3.719 > t-table 1.653 and a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. These results indicate that mental health has a positive and significant effect on communication ethics in social media. In other words, the better the students’ mental health, the higher their communication ethics in digital interactions. The findings highlight the importance of mental health education and school counseling services in fostering ethical and responsible online communication behaviors.

Abstract

The research is based on the importance of self-regulated learning (SRL) in supporting students' academic success, as they can set goals and evaluate their own learning process. However, in reality, a number of studies show that many students still have low SRL abilities. Furthermore, there are also indications of differences in SRL between males and females that need to be studied further, namely several findings that show significant differences, while other studies do not. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify differences in SRL based on gender at SMA Negeri 7 Padang. This study used a quantitative approach with a comparative method, involving 298 students as respondents, including 130 males and 168 females. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The findings of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between male and female students in terms of SRL, with female students scoring higher than male students (mean difference = -14.369). This shows that female students are better able to manage their own learning processes and are more responsible for their learning outcomes. These findings have important implications for guidance and counseling services in schools, especially in designing intervention strategies that are more suited to students' needs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between mastery goal orientation and growth mindset among elementary school students. Mastery goal orientation is defined as a learning orientation focused on mastering subject matter, developing competence, and demonstrating academic progress through sustained effort. This research employed a quantitative method using a survey design and descriptive analysis. Respondents were drawn from 313 public and private elementary schools in Bekasi Regency. The research instrument was a mastery goal orientation scale adapted from Slavin (2003), modified into nine characteristics relevant to the developmental stage of elementary school students. Data were analyzed using t-tests and analysis of variance (ANOVA) with SPSS 23. The results indicated no significant differences in mastery goal orientation across gender, age, grade level, or school type. However, overall findings highlight that mastery goal orientation positively contributes to the development of a growth mindset, particularly in terms of strategic approaches to challenges, enthusiasm within the learning environment, and the principle of continuous growth. These results underscore the crucial role of teachers in fostering mastery-oriented learning, perseverance, and positive interpretations of failure.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among students is often associated with low self-awareness, although this assumption has not been fully supported by empirical evidence. This study is important to objectively examine differences in self-awareness levels between smoking and non-smoking students. The purpose of this study was to compare self-awareness levels between the two groups. This research employed a quantitative comparative method with a cross-sectional design and an ex post facto approach. The participants consisted of 44 students, including 22 smokers and 22 non-smokers selected through random sampling. The research instruments included a self-awareness scale and the Cigarettes Dependence Scale (CDS-12). Data analysis was conducted using validity and reliability tests, descriptive analysis, normality tests, and an Independent Samples t-test. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in self-awareness levels between smoking and non-smoking students based on the Independent Samples t-test (t = −1.079; p = 0.287) These findings suggest that smoking behavior does not directly reflect students’ level of self-awareness. Therefore, guidance and counseling services in schools should consider factors beyond self-awareness in efforts to prevent smoking behavior among students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of group counseling for students and to describe the process of group counseling services in addressing students’ difficulties in waking up early. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, and the data were collected through observations and interviews conducted with guidance and counseling teachers and tenth-grade students at SMA N 1 Koto Besar, Dharmasraya Regency. The results indicate that the implementation of group counseling was carried out through several stages, namely the formation stage, transition stage, activity stage, and termination stage. The Islamic integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach was effective in helping students identify maladaptive thinking patterns and transform them into more positive and rational ones, as well as in fostering awareness to develop the habit of waking up early. These findings contribute to the development of guidance and counseling services in schools and strengthen the effectiveness of Islamic integrative CBT within the context of group counseling.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of students' social skills in the implementation of social inclusion and the role of guidance counselors in public elementary schools. The research method used was quantitative with a survey approach. The research sample consisted of 137 fourth and fifth grade students at Public Elementary School 08 Lubang Buaya in Jakarta. The criteria for students who filled out the questionnaire were that they were peers who had friends with disabilities in their class. Based on the results of the study, the majority of students had moderate social skills, namely 96 students (70.1%), 26 students (19%) had high social skills, and 16 students (10.9%) had low social skills. These findings indicate that students' abilities to interact, empathize, and accept differences have begun to develop, but have not yet developed optimally. Therefore, the role of guidance counselors is needed to strengthen social skills through individual and group counseling programs to foster empathy, cooperation, and acceptance of differences. This will enable students with special needs to integrate with their peers into the social ecology of the school.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the psychological flexibility profile of students at SMA Negeri 1 Pajar Bulan and examine gender differences. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach to objectively describe the students' psychological flexibility. The results showed that, in general, students' psychological flexibility was in the moderate category. This finding indicates that most students have demonstrated adequate adaptability in facing academic and social demands, but still require strengthening in aspects of emotional management, self-acceptance, and consistent action based on values. In terms of gender differences, female students tend to have higher psychological flexibility than male students. These results emphasize the importance of developing guidance and counseling services in schools that focus on increasing students' psychological flexibility to support their psychological resilience and mental well-being.

Abstract

Solitary behavior in elementary school students is one of the problems in social-emotional development that can hinder children's ability to adapt both academically and socially. This condition is reflected in students’ tendencies to avoid interaction, withdraw from peers, show low participation in group activities, and display minimal social responses in the learning environment. This study aims to identify the factors causing withdrawal behavior and to describe teachers’ strategies in addressing it at SDN 40 Inpres Pappota. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through observation, interviews, and documentation. The literature review indicates that solitary behavior is influenced by internal factors such as low self-confidence, social anxiety, and communication barriers, as well as external factors such as parenting styles, unsupportive social environments, and limited opportunities for interaction. Various studies show that effective teacher approaches include cooperative learning, strengthening positive teacher–student relationships, light counseling, social skills training, and collaborative games. This study is expected to serve as a consideration for teachers in designing appropriate interventions to help students develop their social skills, particularly at SDN 40 Inpres Pappota.

Abstract

This study analyzes self-disclosure as an important aspect of interpersonal communication between broken-hearted children and their parents, which plays a role in helping individuals express their thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences. However, not all clients are able to express themselves optimally, especially when influenced by unsupportive family relationships. Therefore, this study aims to describe clients' self-disclosure based on aspects of self-disclosure. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained from four students of Senior High School X through in-depth interviews. Data analysis was conducted using MAXQDA software based on the five aspects of self-disclosure: amount, valence, accuracy and honesty, intention, and intimacy. The results of this study indicate that the level of self-disclosure among clients varies and is influenced by the quality of interpersonal relationships with parents. Clients who have secure emotional relationships tend to show higher levels of self-disclosure, while those with a background of family conflict show lower levels of self-disclosure. Self-disclosure is mostly characterized by negative emotions, situational honesty, and a tendency to avoid sensitive topics. These findings emphasize the importance of a safe and empathetic communication environment in fostering optimal self-disclosure.
