Abstract

This study was motivated by the weakening of communal practices and social solidarity among elementary school students, a condition influenced by rising individualism and rapid technological change in the 21st century. Character education in Indonesia places gotong royong (mutual cooperation) as one of the core dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile, yet this value increasingly needs contextual reinforcement outside the classroom. This study aims to: (1) describe the forms of coastal community local wisdom that contain the value of gotong royong, (2) analyze the practice of gotong royong carried out by elementary school students in the school and coastal community environment, and (3) analyze the process of instilling gotong royong values rooted in coastal community local wisdom in shaping students' social solidarity. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive-exploratory case study design, conducted at SDN Mayangan 4, Probolinggo City, a coastal-area school. Research informants consisted of the school principal, a fifth-grade teacher, students, parents, and education staff, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically through coding, categorization, and theme interpretation. Data validity was established through source triangulation, technique triangulation, member checking, and persistent observation. The results show that: (1) coastal community local wisdom related to gotong royong is reflected in communal clean-up activities, cooperative fishing-boat repair, coastal environmental clean-ups, and other collective social traditions passed down across generations; (2) students practice gotong royong through class picket duty, group work, helping classmates who face difficulties, and participation in community social activities; and (3) the internalization of gotong royong values occurs through consistent habituation, modeling by teachers and parents, direct social experience, and the school's integration of local culture into character education, which together foster students' cooperation, empathy, collective responsibility, and social solidarity.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the phenomenon of procrastination that does not always lead to negative behavior, but in some cases is filled with creative activities that produce new ideas and works. This phenomenon was found among students of the Visual Communication Design Study Program at Institut Seni Indonesia Padangpanjang, class of 2022, who, when postponing certain academic tasks, tended to engage in activities such as drawing, sketching, searching for visual references, editing photographs, and creating designs. This study aims to examine the background of creative procrastination and its impact on the process of creating works among Visual Communication Design students of ISI Padangpanjang, class of 2022. This research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach based on Alfred Schutz's concepts of because motive and in-order-to motive. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving five students as research informants. The findings indicate that creative procrastination is influenced by previous experiences, a stronger interest in visual activities, boredom with certain assignments, fatigue, and the need to seek inspiration and calm the mind. The postponement activities were not passive in nature but were filled with creative activities closely related to the students' visual world and artistic practices. This study also found that creative procrastination has positive impacts, such as generating new ideas, enriching visual references, and producing several creative works. However, it may also lead to delays in completing academic assignments if not managed properly. Therefore, creative procrastination among Visual Communication Design students can be understood as a form of postponement that carries its own meaning and does not always result in negative consequences.

Abstract

Conditional cooperation between boat owners and fishermen in Kramat Village, Bungah District, Gresik Regency has become a common practice to overcome fishermen's limited access to capital. However, the implementation of this cooperation involves several conditions that may create an imbalance of rights and obligations between the parties. This study aims to analyze the practice from the perspective of fiqh muamalah, particularly based on the concept of mudharabah and the principles of justice (al-'adl), balance (at-tawazun), public welfare (maslahah), and la dharar wa la dhirar. This research employed a qualitative field research approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving boat owners, fishermen, and local religious leaders, and were analyzed descriptively using the framework of fiqh muamalah. The findings reveal that the cooperation practice shares characteristics with a mudharabah muqayyadah contract because the capital owner imposes specific conditions on the business manager. Nevertheless, its implementation does not fully comply with the principles of fiqh muamalah, as fishermen are required to bear repair costs for assets owned by the boat owner and must sell their catches to the owner at prices below the market value. Despite these shortcomings, the cooperation still provides employment opportunities and income for fishermen who lack fishing capital. Therefore, improvements to the cooperation mechanism are necessary to better reflect the principles of justice, balance, and public welfare in Islamic commercial jurisprudence.

Abstract

Mathematics learning at the elementary school level often faces obstacles in visualizing abstract concepts, especially in the material of plane figures. Students tend to have difficulty in connecting theoretical concepts with real objects in the surrounding environment. This study aims to develop a project-based learning module by integrating an ethnomathematics approach through the exploration of Riau Malay Traditional House ornaments. The use of traditional ornaments was chosen as a contextual medium because it is full of unique and authentic geometric patterns. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE development model which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection was carried out through observations of traditional house ornaments, in-depth interviews with cultural experts and craftsmen, and validation by material and media experts before being implemented to 3rd grade elementary school students. The results of the study indicate that Riau Malay Traditional House ornaments, such as the Pucuk Rebung and Itik Pulang Petang motifs, contain very rich principles of plane geometry, including an understanding of triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, and the concept of symmetry. The developed module has met high validity and practicality criteria. Furthermore, findings from the implementation phase indicate that students' active involvement in this cultural exploration project successfully increased their learning interest, facilitated their understanding of geometric concepts, and enhanced their spatial reasoning skills. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that the integration of local wisdom into the mathematics curriculum is not only effective as a pedagogical tool but also plays a crucial role in fostering students' love and pride for the identity and cultural heritage of Riau Malays from an early age

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the synergy between Islamic habituation and teacher role modeling in implementing the Integrated Islamic School Network (JSIT) curriculum at SMPIT Al-Uswah Surabaya. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Informants were selected purposively and consisted of the principal, an Islamic Education teacher, and a student. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The credibility of the findings was strengthened through methodological triangulation. The results show that curriculum planning is formulated in the School Operational Curriculum, which aligns the Merdeka Curriculum with JSIT distinctive standards and 79 Graduate Competency Standard indicators. Its implementation includes active learning, classroom learning agreements, congregational Duha prayer, communal class mentoring, small-group Islamic Personal Development, Quran memorization programs, and teacher role modeling. This integration is associated with the development of students’ discipline, responsibility, courtesy, consistency in worship, and Quranic competence. The principal finding confirms that implementing the JSIT curriculum cannot be reduced to adding religious content. It requires consistency among the values that are planned, taught, modeled, and experienced by students in everyday school life.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in the material of multiplication operations in elementary school classes. This study aims to determine the learning outcomes of students before and after using colored wooden sticks as learning media, and to analyze the impact of using these media on improving multiplication learning outcomes. The method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental approach and a non-equivalent control group design. The research sample involved 45 third-grade students who were divided into an experimental class and a control class in an elementary school in Bandung Regency. Data collection techniques used tests, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and inferentially, which included normality tests, homogeneity tests, initial ability difference tests, hypothesis tests of differences in improvement, and analysis of improvement using N-Gain. The results of the study indicate that the use of colored wooden sticks as a descriptive medium helps students in visualizing the concept of multiplication as repeated addition through concrete experiences, although statistically the hypothesis test shows certain comparative results between the experimental class and the control class.

Abstract

Undocumented migrant workers are highly vulnerable to various risks due to their limited access to legal protection and social security in the host country. Under such circumstances, social capital serves as a crucial resource that enables them to sustain their livelihoods. This study aims to describe the role of social capital in the survival strategies of undocumented migrant workers originating from Dabo Lama Village, Singkep District, Lingga Regency, Indonesia, who are employed in Malaysia. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving purposively selected informants. The analysis was guided by Robert D. Putnam's theory of social capital, which emphasizes three key dimensions: trust, social networks, and norms. The findings reveal that social capital constitutes the primary resource that enables undocumented migrant workers to cope with the challenges arising from their irregular status. Trust established through relationships with family members, relatives, neighbors, friends, and fellow migrant workers facilitates access to employment opportunities, information, and assistance during difficult situations. Social networks function as important channels for obtaining jobs, accommodation, informal protection, and economic support while living in Malaysia. Meanwhile, shared norms of mutual trust, reciprocity, solidarity, and mutual assistance strengthen social cohesion and maintain sustainable social relationships among migrant workers. These three dimensions of social capital interact to form an adaptive mechanism that enables undocumented migrant workers to survive despite limited formal protection and the high risks associated with working in Malaysia.
