Abstract

The implementation of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) in primary schools with limited access often faces challenges such as low reading interest, limited book collections, and teacher operational constraints. This study aims to analyze the strategic roles of the principal and teachers in supporting GLS, identify obstacles, and formulate mitigation strategies at SD Negeri 010 Sei Simpang Dua. This descriptive qualitative study gathered data through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis involving the Principal and Grade III Teacher. Data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model and validated through triangulation. The results indicate that: (1) The principal performs leadership functions as a leader (setting a 5–15 minute daily reading policy and demonstrating exemplary behavior), manager, supervisor, motivator, and facilitator (providing library facilities and reading corners); (2) Teachers act as reading role models, mentors for struggling readers, facilitators of illustrated storybooks, motivators, and potential developers through story-retelling activities; and (3) Challenges regarding reading ability gaps and book shortages are addressed via individual remedial tutoring, peer tutoring, and book collection rotation. Strong synergy between instructional leadership and classroom teaching practices is key to building a sustainable reading culture.

Abstract

This research was motivated by low student learning outcomes regarding the identification of intrinsic story elements during Indonesian language lessons. These issues stemmed from conventional teaching methods, a lack of engaging instructional media, and low student motivation in comprehending story content. The study aimed to examine teacher activity, student activity, and improvements in student learning outcomes through the use of Quizizz Paper Mode media for the topic of intrinsic story elements. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) method was employed, utilizing the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which comprises the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted over two cycles with 21 Grade III students at SD Negeri 2 Mata Ie, Aceh Besar Regency, serving as the subjects. Data collection techniques included observation and learning outcome tests. The results indicate that the use of Quizizz Paper Mode media successfully enhanced teacher activity, student activity, and student learning outcomes in identifying intrinsic story elements. In Cycle I, teacher activity reached 91.67% (categorized as "very high"), while student activity reached 78.57% (categorized as "good"). Following improvements made in Cycle II, both teacher and student activities increased. Student learning outcomes also improved, evidenced by a rise in the number of students achieving mastery based on the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP) established by the school. Thus, the use of Quizizz Paper Mode media can improve student learning outcomes in identifying intrinsic story elements among Grade III students at SD Negeri 2 Mata Ie, Aceh Besar Regency

Abstract

This classroom action research was initiated by the ineffectiveness of the lecture method in Indonesian language instruction for 30 students in class VII B at SMP Negeri 6 Madiun. Furthermore, high classroom temperatures and student physical fatigue contributed to a decline in student concentration during learning activities. Therefore, an adaptive learning strategy is required to enhance active participation within the classroom. This study aims to determine the improvement in student learning outcomes regarding response text material through the Snowball Throwing strategy (a method involving paper balls containing sentences thrown alternately among peers). Research data were collected through student profiling during the initial diagnostic test and analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods to describe the findings. The results indicate that the Snowball Throwing strategy in Indonesian language learning can enhance students' ability to write response sentences. From the pre-action phase to Cycle 1, there was a minor increase with an average score improvement of 0.8, or equivalent to 1.08%. Meanwhile, the increase from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2 reached an average score improvement of 5.5, or equivalent to 7.3%. Consequently, an overall improvement across both actions was observed, amounting to 6.3, or equivalent to 8.38%.

Abstract

The depreciation of the rupiah against foreign currencies has contributed to rising inflation, which directly affects the purchasing power of the community, including university students. This study aims to analyze the impact of consumption inflation caused by the weakening rupiah on students' shopping behavior and lifestyle. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving ten student informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that inflation has significantly influenced students' consumption patterns. Students tend to prioritize essential needs, reduce discretionary spending, seek more affordable products, and adopt financial management strategies to cope with increasing living costs. Although some students maintain a consumptive lifestyle due to social and technological influences, most respondents have become more selective and rational in making purchasing decisions. The study concludes that consumption inflation resulting from the weakening rupiah has altered students' shopping behavior and encouraged a more adaptive lifestyle.

Abstract

Learning concentration is one of the important factors that influence the success of the learning process. However, during the learning process in the fifth grade of SDN 139 Pekanbaru, there were still students who paid less attention to the teacher's explanation, easily lost their focus, were less active during learning activities, and showed low enthusiasm in participating in classroom learning. One of the efforts made by the teacher to overcome these problems was implementing ice breaking activities during the learning process. This study aimed to describe the implementation of ice breaking in improving the learning concentration of fifth-grade students at SDN 139 Pekanbaru. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of the fifth-grade teacher and fifth-grade students at SDN 139 Pekanbaru. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that ice breaking activities were implemented through Tepuk Semangat and the 7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children song, which were carried out at the beginning, middle, or end of the lesson according to the students' learning conditions. The implementation of ice breaking improved students' attention during learning, encouraged them to participate actively in asking and answering questions, increased their compliance with the teacher's instructions, helped them maintain focus during the learning process, enhanced their learning enthusiasm, and improved their ability to complete assigned tasks. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of ice breaking plays an important role in creating an enjoyable and conducive learning atmosphere, thereby improving the learning concentration of fifth-grade students at SDN 139 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of facilities and infrastructure in supporting learning effectiveness at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 2 Batam. Educational facilities and infrastructure are important components that support the smooth running of the teaching and learning process at school, so that their management needs to be carried out systematically, starting from planning, procurement, use, maintenance, to disposal. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-observational design. Data were collected through field observation, in-depth interviews with the head of the madrasah, the deputy head for facilities and infrastructure, teachers, and administrative staff, and supported by documentation studies of madrasah archives and inventory records. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was examined using source and technique triangulation. The results show that the management of facilities and infrastructure at MIN 2 Batam has generally run quite well, covering needs planning aligned with the madrasah work plan, procurement through school operational assistance funds and government aid, fairly optimal use of classrooms and learning media, and routine maintenance of physical facilities. However, several constraints remain, such as limited budgets, a lack of dedicated staff for facility management, and supporting facilities such as the laboratory and library that have not been fully utilized. Well-organized facility management has been shown to contribute to student learning comfort and the smoothness of the learning process, although its effectiveness can still be improved through more careful budget planning and enhanced competence of facility managers. This study recommends strengthening the administrative system for facilities and infrastructure and involving all school members in maintaining school facilities to achieve effective and quality learning.

Abstract

Reading difficulty among third-grade students is a common problem that hinders the transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” This study examines the phenomenon of reading difficulties experienced by third-grade students in Indonesian language learning at UPTD SD Inpres Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 2. The study aims to identify the internal and external factors underlying these difficulties, to describe their characteristics, and to formulate teacher strategies for overcoming them. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with the class teacher and third-grade students who experienced reading difficulties as the subjects. Data were collected through participatory observation, structured and semi-structured interviews and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results show that of sixteen students, ten (62.5%) experienced reading difficulties, characterised by confusion in distinguishing visually similar letters (b-d, p-q, n-u), halting syllable-by-syllable reading, omission or insertion of letters, disregard of punctuation, and low reading comprehension because attention remained fixed on decoding. Internal factors included low reading interest and motivation, laziness, boredom, low self-confidence, and anxiety when reading aloud, compounded by insufficient rest at home. External factors included limited parental guidance and literacy stimulation at home and a lack of varied, interactive instructional media at school. The study concludes that third-grade reading ability still needs strengthening through targeted pedagogical interventions, such as individual guidance, letter-card media, and closer school-family collaboration.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning interest in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) among Generation Z students at SMK Mambaul Ulum Pandaan, who tend to be more attracted to visual and interactive digital content while teachers still rely on conventional, lecture-based methods. This study aims to describe the implementation of a creative learning strategy using the Canva application and to examine students' learning interest before and after its implementation. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña and verified through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results show that Canva was applied through project-based assignments in which students produced posters, presentations, and visual designs related to PAI materials, encouraging active involvement, creativity, and easier understanding of the content, despite technical constraints such as limited devices and unstable internet access. After the implementation of Canva, students showed higher attention, enjoyment, participation, and enthusiasm in completing tasks compared to before. It is concluded that the creative use of Canva can significantly improve the learning interest of Generation Z students in PAI.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the use of picture media as an effort to improve the writing skills of third grade students at SD Negeri 2 Galala, Ambon City in Indonesian language learning. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, carried out in two cycles. The study involved 22 third grade students consisting of 10 male and 12 female students. Each cycle covered four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were gathered through student activity observation sheets, writing skills tests, interviews, and documentation. The findings showed consistent improvement: in the pre-cycle stage, completion only reached 45.45% (10 students passed, mean score 61.36); in Cycle I it increased to 68.18% (15 students passed, mean 71.82); and in Cycle II it increased significantly to 90.90% (20 students passed, mean 80.91), exceeding the 80% success indicator. These results confirm that the planned and structured use of picture media can significantly improve the writing skills of third grade elementary school students.
