Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies employed by the fourth-grade teacher at SDN Taraban 01 to enhance student engagement through differentiated instruction. A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted for this research, with the study subjects comprising the fourth-grade teacher and students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the teacher implemented instructional strategies characterized by interactive, inspiring, enjoyable, and challenging elements, alongside motivational approaches. These strategies were executed through activities such as question-and-answer sessions, discussions, group work, opportunities for students to express their opinions, the use of instructional media, the presentation of challenges, and the provision of motivation. Student engagement was evident in activities such as asking and answering questions, expressing opinions, participating in discussions, collaborating, completing assignments, and actively engaging in the learning process. Differentiated instruction was implemented through the differentiation of content, process, product, and the learning environment. While all four aspects were addressed, their implementation was not yet fully optimal or consistent—particularly regarding product differentiation and the learning environment. Thus, the teacher's strategies involving differentiated instruction have provided opportunities for students to engage actively in the learning process, although further development is needed to ensure more consistent implementation and to better accommodate the needs of all students.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the forms of non-formal language style used by fifth-grade students, describe the level of student activeness, and analyze the relationship between non-formal language style and student activeness in learning interactions at SDN 2 Pancasan. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects were the classroom teacher and 19 fifth-grade students, while five students were selected purposively as interview informants representing active, moderately active, and passive categories. Data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Data credibility was strengthened through source and technique triangulation. The findings showed three dominant forms of non-formal language use: casual everyday language, non-formal language in asking and answering questions, and non-formal language in group discussions. Student activeness varied across active, moderately active, and passive categories. The findings also indicated a positive relationship between the use of non-formal language and student activeness, particularly through a more comfortable learning atmosphere, greater courage to ask and answer questions, stronger participation in discussions, and broader involvement in learning. Non-formal language therefore functioned as a communicative means that supported more comfortable and participatory classroom interaction, provided that students maintained politeness and adapted their language to the learning context.

Abstract

This study focuses on the development of an Augmented Reality (AR)-integrated digital comic learning medium utilizing the Assemblr Edu platform. Designed for fourth-grade students at SDN 020254 Binjai Kota, the media aims to facilitate learning on the Formulation Process and Values of Pancasila in Pancasila Education. The initiative was prompted by limited instructional media usage, a heavy reliance on conventional lectures and textbooks, and students' challenges in comprehending historical events and key figures involved in Pancasila's formulation. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) framework, the study implemented the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. Product evaluation comprised content and media expert validations for feasibility, teacher and student feedback for practicality, and a pretest-posttest comparison to determine effectiveness. Expert evaluations yielded an 88% feasibility rating for instructional content (highly feasible), while media expert validation progressed from an initial 72% to 94% post-revision (highly feasible). Practicality assessments reached 96% based on teacher feedback and 94% from student responses, both categorized as highly practical. Regarding effectiveness, the mean student score rose by 23.91 points, moving from a pretest average of 57.61 to a posttest average of 81.52. Furthermore, all 23 students successfully met the minimum mastery threshold of 75. Consequently, the AR-based digital comic proves to be a feasible, practical, and effective tool for elementary Pancasila Education.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the correlation between Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competence and students’ self-confidence in speaking English at MTsS Asy-Syarif Koto Laweh. In English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, students may experience difficulties in speaking due to low confidence, anxiety, and limited emotional regulation. These challenges indicate the importance of examining the relationship between SEL competence and speaking self-confidence. This study employed a quantitative correlational design involving 48 eighth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring SEL competence and students’ self-confidence in speaking and were analyzed using Pearson Product-Moment correlation. The findings revealed a very strong positive and significant correlation between SEL competence and students’ self-confidence in speaking, with a correlation coefficient of 0.914 and a significance value of p < 0.001. This indicates that students with higher levels of SEL competence tended to demonstrate greater confidence in speaking English. The findings suggest that emotional awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making are associated with students’ confidence in oral communication. Therefore, SEL competence is significantly related to students’ self-confidence in speaking English.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of creative thinking skills among fifth-grade students in science learning, particularly on the topic of the Properties of Light at SDN 108 Rantau Tenang. This condition was indicated by students’ limited ability to express ideas, provide various answers, and find alternative solutions to problems. It was also influenced by the use of conventional teaching methods that were still teacher-centered, causing students to be less active in the learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of using the brainstorming technique on improving the creative thinking skills of fifth-grade students in science learning on the topic of the Properties of Light. The study employed an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The population consisted of 48 students, divided into two groups: an experimental class of 24 students who received learning through the brainstorming technique and a control class of 24 students who received conventional instruction. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a t-test. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was 86.54, while that of the control class was 74.13. The t-test result showed a t-count of 9.35, which was higher than the t-table value of 1.68, with a significance value of 0.000. Therefore, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. It can be concluded that the brainstorming technique had a positive and significant effect on improving students’ creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract

Pictorial Health Warnings (PHW) on cigarette packaging have been implemented in Indonesia since 2014, yet the number of smokers among the productive age group remains high despite more than a decade of enforcement. This condition indicates a problem in how the audience interprets the message, rather than merely a matter of message reach. This study aims to describe and analyze the meaning of PHW visual communication among productive-age residents of RT 007 RW 009, Bintara Village, Bekasi City. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using reception analysis grounded in Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory, supported by the concept of visual habituation to explain the effect of repeated exposure on the intensity of audience response. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation involving four informants with different levels of exposure to cigarettes. The findings show that all informants understood the validity of the health-risk messages conveyed by PHW, yet this understanding diverged into dominant, negotiated, and oppositional positions depending on their smoking status and peer social pressure. Visual habituation resulting from repeated exposure further widened the gap between cognitive understanding and actual behavioral change.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of figurative language used in Abdur Arsyad's utterances in Stand-up Comedy videos on the Stand Up Kompas TV YouTube channel. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with a stylistic approach. The data source consisted of Abdur Arsyad's performances in Stand-up Comedy Indonesia (SUCI) Season 4 uploaded to the Stand Up Kompas TV YouTube channel. The data were collected through documentation and non-participatory observation (Simak Bebas Libat Cakap / SBLC) techniques and analyzed using the interactive analysis model, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed that the forms of figurative language identified in the performances include simile, metaphor, personification, sarcasm, and satire. These forms of figurative language were used to create humor, clarify ideas, convey social criticism, and reinforce the messages delivered to the audience. It can be concluded that figurative language plays an important role in stand-up comedy performances, serving not only as a means of creating humorous effects but also as an effective medium for expressing social criticism and reflecting social realities

Abstract

This study was motivated by the suboptimal development of children’s gross motor skills, driven by stimulation activities in early childhood education institutions that tend to be monotonous, lack variety, and are dominated by repetitive basic movements. These conditions can limit the stimulation of gross motor skills while also reducing children’s interest in physical activity. One medium that can be used to address this issue is the “Yoga Freeze Dance” video, which combines storytelling, music, interactive visuals, and various movements to create enjoyable physical activities. This study aims to determine the effect of the “Yoga Freeze Dance” video on children’s gross motor development in kindergarten. This study employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 26 children, comprising 13 children in the experimental group and 13 children in the control group. Data were collected through tests and observations of gross motor development indicators, including strength, coordination, flexibility, and agility. The data were analyzed through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and an independent samples t-test using SPSS Statistics 25. The results showed that the mean gross motor development score for the experimental group increased from 8.77 on the pretest to 15.23 on the posttest, while the control group’s score increased from 8.62 to 13.38. The results of the independent-samples t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.006 < 0.05. Thus, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, indicating that the “Yoga Freeze Dance” video has an effect on children’s gross motor development in kindergarten.

Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers’ strategies for addressing bullying and to identify the challenges encountered in implementing those strategies at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma’arif NU 01 Karangkemiri Banyumas. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The informants consisted of the principal, a third-grade teacher, a fourth-grade teacher, two students identified as bullying perpetrators, and two students identified as bullying victims. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data credibility was examined through source triangulation and technique triangulation. Data analysis involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show six interconnected strategies: identifying the causes of the problem, providing punishment, giving verbal warnings, providing guidance or services, giving rewards, and conducting monitoring. Teachers identified bullying through direct observation and information from students, peers, other teachers, and parents. Punishment was adjusted to the severity and circumstances of the case, while warnings, guidance, and mediation were used to help students recognize mistakes, apologize, and improve relationships. Rewards were given when students demonstrated positive behavioral changes, and monitoring was conducted during learning activities, play, and break time. The main challenges included limited time due to teachers’ workload, the absence of specific bullying-management training, students’ tendency to regard teasing as joking, less-than-optimal cooperation with parents, and limitations in monitoring students outside school.
