Abstract

The concept of cells is a fundamental topic in science learning that discusses the structure, function, and role of cells as the smallest units of living organisms. However, cell concepts are often considered difficult to understand because they are abstract and complex. This study aims to analyze cell concepts in science learning, the teaching strategies used, as well as the challenges and solutions in the learning process. The method used in this study is a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) through the analysis of various relevant scientific articles and literature. The results of the review indicate that learning strategies such as Project Based Learning (PjBL), inquiry-based learning, visual media, animated videos, virtual laboratory activities, and interactive e modules can improve students’ understanding of cell concepts and their active involvement in learning. Nevertheless, the teaching of cell concepts still faces several challenges, including limited facilities, low student representation skills, and the lack of innovative learning media. Therefore, the use of digital technology and the implementation of active learning models are needed to make cell concept learning more effective, engaging, and meaningful for students.

Abstract

This community service initiative addresses the low technical skills in catfish breeding, external seed dependence, and weak business management among breeders in Padang Serai, Bengkulu. The program aims to empower partners as active subjects through catfish breeding training utilizing the Asset Based Community Development approach to enhance economic independence. The implementation method adopts five participatory ABCD stages, encompassing discovery, dream, design, define/destiny, plus monitoring and evaluation. Activities ran intensively for one and a half months, focusing on broodstock selection, controlled spawning, larva care, and water quality management using tarpaulin ponds. Service results demonstrate significant improvement in participant technical competency, establishment of independent business groups, and healthy seed production that reduces external supply reliance. Extreme weather challenges affecting water turbidity and unstructured financial recording habits remain crucial notes for future improvement. Overall, integrating local asset empowerment with participatory mentoring effectively transforms communities from passive objects into independent, sustainable catfish seed producers. These findings confirm that the ABCD approach remains highly relevant for micro and small enterprise scales. Future recommendations include water filtration, marketing digitalization, and financial literacy training. Continuous mentoring ensures appropriate technology adaptation and partner household income stability. Such interventions guarantee long-term sustainability and regional competitiveness for rural aquaculture sectors.

Abstract

The School Activity and Budget Plan (RKAS) constitutes a fundamental instrument of school financial management, particularly for private vocational schools that operate under three distinct funding streams: School Operational Assistance (BOS) from the central government, Provincial Education Support Funds (BPOPP) from the provincial government, and community-sourced funds (SPP) administered by the school foundation. Each stream carries distinct regulatory obligations and cannot be used interchangeably, creating a level of financial governance complexity that significantly exceeds that of public general secondary schools. This study aims to analyze RKAS implementation through the POAC management framework (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) at SMK Labschool 1 Surabaya and its relationship with educational program effectiveness. A qualitative single-case study design was employed; data were collected through in-depth interviews with the Principal and School Treasurer, structured observation, and documentation analysis conducted on April 21, 2026. Findings reveal that: (1) planning was executed participatively based on the eight National Education Standards with a fully non-cash procurement mechanism through SIPLA-ARKAS integration; (2) organizing applied a dual-control mechanism between the Principal and Treasurer alongside a clear separation of SPP management through the foundation; (3) actuating demonstrated consistent program realization supported by monthly evaluation cycles; and (4) controlling operated through layered internal evaluations, quarterly provincial supervisory visits, and real-time digital monitoring by the State Audit Board. Synergistic implementation across all POAC functions demonstrably supported educational program effectiveness. A primary recommendation is the pre-planned allocation of a contingency budget reserve to reduce reliance on departmental student funds for mid-year shortfalls.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of ethnopedagogy integration through the transformation of local agricultural wisdom in Pojok Village as a learning resource for Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) for fourth graders, as well as teacher strategies in overcoming obstacles to its implementation at Pojok 01 Public Elementary School. This study used a qualitative method with a case study design, with subjects consisting of fourth-grade teachers and fourth-grade students. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Interactive data analysis was used as an analytical technique. The results showed that the curriculum transformation was carried out by synchronizing local agrarian wisdom, which was originally oral, into formal project-based teaching modules. Field learning applied the philosophical principle of "melakoni" (acting), with activities consisting of 30% theory and 70% hands-on practice. The constraint of limited school space was successfully overcome through an adaptive strategy of shifting planting media to polybags. Meanwhile, limited facilities were addressed through independent student participation by bringing tools from home, and time constraints were overcome by completing individual observation journals outside of school hours. This adaptive strategy proved not only to overcome technical obstacles but also effective in fostering students' independent character, sense of responsibility, and consistency in self-esteem.

Abstract

This study examines the role of interpersonal communication between ustadz and santri in character formation at Pondok Pesantren Modern Al-Azhar Gresik. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. Data analysis employed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive model. The findings indicate that interpersonal communication between ustadz and santri plays a significant role in shaping santri character through three main processes: first, communication takes place not only in the classroom but across all daily activities; second, an intimate communication atmosphere makes santri more open and receptive; third, ustadz role modeling constitutes a powerful form of non-verbal communication. The roles performed by ustadz include acting as character guide and companion, as moral exemplar, and as a vehicle for instilling character values. The implications of this interpersonal communication are reflected in the formation of santri who possess noble character (akhlakul karimah), high spiritual awareness, and the ability to behave positively in everyday life.

Abstract

The use of effective sentences in scientific writing is essential for conveying ideas clearly and systematically. However, ineffective sentences are still frequently found in undergraduate thesis writing, reducing clarity and coherence. This study aimed to describe the use of effective sentences, identify dominant types of ineffective sentences, and analyze factors contributing to sentence ineffectiveness in theses written by Biology Education students at Universitas Negeri Medan. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were taken from four undergraduate theses and collected through documentation and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using content analysis involving data reduction, classification, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed 24 ineffective sentences categorized into five types: word economy, structural balance, idea coherence, logical language use, and parallelism. Word economy was the most dominant 41.7%, while parallelism was the least frequent 4.2%. These findings indicate that students still need improvement in applying effective sentence principles in academic writing. Therefore, systematic language guidance and academic writing supervision are needed to improve students’ ability to produce clearer and more effective scientific writing.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of implementing a learning model that can improve students’ activeness, critical thinking skills, and collaboration in science and social science (IPAS) learning on the topic of animal life cycles in elementary school. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, the obstacles faced by teachers, and the teachers’ efforts to overcome these obstacles in the animal life cycle material for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 17 Pekanbaru. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research informants consisted of three fifth-grade teachers and six fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with data validity tested through triangulation techniques. The results showed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model had been carried out quite well according to the stages of PBL, starting from problem orientation, student organization, investigation, presentation of results, to analysis and evaluation. The implementation of the PBL model was able to improve students’ activeness, critical thinking skills, collaboration, and understanding of the learning material. However, its implementation still faced several obstacles, including unprepared discussion materials, classroom discipline disturbances, and differences in students’ abilities. To overcome these obstacles, teachers provided guidance and motivation, managed the classroom in a structured manner, formed diverse learning groups, and adjusted the delivery of materials and assignments according to students’ abilities so that learning could run more effectively and meaningfully.
