Abstract

Islamic education in the modern Malay region faces diverse challenges and developments influenced by the social, political, and policy contexts of each country. This study aims to analyze the development of Islamic education in Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Southern Thailand, as well as to identify their similarities and differences. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach through the examination of books, scholarly journals, scientific articles, and other relevant documents. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis to obtain a comprehensive understanding of Islamic education systems in the three regions. The findings reveal that Islamic education in Singapore is developed through a madrasa system integrated with the national education framework, while in Brunei Darussalam it receives strong state support under the philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy (Melayu Islam Beraja/MIB). In Southern Thailand, Islamic education plays a significant role in preserving Malay-Muslim identity amid national integration policies. These findings indicate that Islamic education functions not only as a medium for transmitting religious knowledge but also as an important instrument for shaping the Islamic identity of Muslim communities.

Abstract

This study is a quasi-experimental research aimed at: (1) describing the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in developing the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students; (2) describing the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of students before and after the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in fifth grade elementary school; and (3) determining the effect of the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students. The research employed a Pre-Experimental Design in the form of a One Group Pretest and Posttest Design. The population of this study consisted of all fifth-grade students of SDN 99 Lappacinrana. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling, with a total sample of 24 students. The data collection techniques used were observation, tests, and documentation, while the research instruments consisted of observation sheets and tests. The data collected from the pretest, treatment, and posttest were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with the assistance of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. The results of the prerequisite test analysis showed that the students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) data were not normally distributed; therefore, a non-parametric test using the Wilcoxon test was conducted. The significance value of the Wilcoxon test showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which was smaller than 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model had a significant effect on the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of identity and the transformation of perspectives in the Netflix animated film Swapped (2026), directed by Nathan Greno and produced by Skydance Animation. Using qualitative descriptive research methods with a narrative analysis approach, this study identifies how the body-swap mechanism is employed as a literary device to expose the fluidity of identity and the formation of new perspectives in two main characters, Ollie the Pookoo and Ivy the Javan. The analysis reveals three major findings: (1) the characters' identities are socially and culturally constructed through the collective memories and belief systems of their respective groups; (2) the physical body-swap experience serves as a catalyst that fundamentally disrupts previously held identity assumptions; and (3) the empathy generated through direct experiential interaction produces a qualitative shift in the characters' worldview. This study concludes that Swapped employs the body-swap narrative not merely as a comedic device, but as a vehicle for a profound social message: that prejudice and distrust rooted in group identity can only be dismantled by genuinely inhabiting another's lived experience. This film is highly relevant as educational media for cultivating empathy and social tolerance among young audiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the development of madrasahs in the digital age, identify implementation challenges, and formulate self-evaluation-based innovation management as a strategy for adapting to changes in digital technology. The method used is a literature review employing a content analysis approach to books, academic articles, and official documents from 2021 to 2026. The research findings indicate that madrasah development based on EDM and e-RKAM creates an integrated management cycle from quality evaluation to real-time reporting, which promotes professional and transparent governance. Key challenges include limitations in technological infrastructure, low staff competence, resistance to change, funding constraints, regulatory hurdles, data security, the digital divide, a lack of technical support, minimal content integration, and weak monitoring management. Effective innovation management encompasses LMS-based learning, administrative digitisation, interactive learning, strengthening digital literacy and hybrid learning, as well as data-driven decision-making. Self-evaluation via EDM has proven to be a strategic foundation as it measures five quality cultures correlated with the National Education Standards and is integrated with POAC management functions and the PDCA cycle.

Abstract

Parents play a role in shaping adolescent mental health through parenting styles applied in daily life. Adolescence is a developmental phase that is vulnerable to various mental health problems and therefore requires optimal family support. This study aims to analyze parental parenting styles on adolescent mental health in Renah Kurung Village, identify the types of parenting styles applied, analyze their impact on adolescent mental health, and examine the factors that influence the implementation of these parenting styles. The study used a descriptive qualitative method involving 9 informants consisting of 3 adolescents, 4 parents, and 2 additional informants. The results showed that parenting styles applied by parents in Renah Kurung Village consisted of authoritarian parenting, mixed permissive-authoritarian parenting, and mixed democratic parenting dominated by authoritarian characteristics. Authoritarian parenting was found to be the most dominant form of parenting, especially for adolescent girls. The impact of parenting styles on adolescent mental health includes a tendency to become withdrawn, the emergence of passive-aggressive behavior, fear in expressing opinions and making decisions, feelings of stress, and a tendency to self-harm. Factors influencing parenting styles include economic factors, the child's gender, the social environment, the parent's childhood parenting experiences, and the parent's personality. This research shows that authoritarian parenting styles have the potential to negatively impact adolescent mental health.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of early literacy skills among young children at TKS Mayang Wangi, as evidenced by the large number of children who still struggle to recognize letters, identify letter sounds, understand simple vocabulary, and retell the content of stories they have heard. These conditions highlight the need to implement learning strategies that can optimally stimulate literacy through a learning environment rich in language experiences. This study aims to describe and analyze the application of the Literacy-Rich Instruction method in improving early literacy skills among young children at TKS Mayang Wangi. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles, encompassing the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 20 children in Group B at TKS Mayang Wangi. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, documentation, and assessments of the children’s early literacy development. The research results indicate an improvement in children’s early literacy skills in each cycle. In the pre-intervention phase, only 35% (7 children) fell into the “Developing as Expected” (BSH) category. Following the intervention in Cycle I, the percentage increased to 60% (12 children), and in Cycle II it reached 85% (17 children). Additionally, children’s active participation in literacy activities increased from 50% in the pre-intervention phase to 90% in Cycle II. The research findings indicate that the implementation of the Literacy-Rich Instruction method is effective in enhancing early literacy skills among young children through the provision of a literacy-rich environment, the use of diverse media, and interactive reading and storytelling activities.

Abstract

The low multiplication arithmetic ability of third-grade students at SDN 121/I Muara Singoan was the background of this study. Only 35.71% of students achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) in the initial conditions, with an average score of 56.43. This study aims to improve multiplication arithmetic ability through the use of the Goal tracker map board game media. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model with 14 third-grade students as subjects. Data were collected through written tests (pre-test and post-test), student and teacher activity observation sheets, and interviews. The results showed that after Cycle I intervention, all students (100%) achieved the KKM with an average score of 86.43—an increase of 30 points from the initial condition. Student activity improved dramatically from the "Poor" category (37.5%) to "Very Active" (94.5%). The study was concluded in Cycle I as the success indicator (80% student mastery) had been exceeded. These findings demonstrate that the Goal tracker map board game media is effective in improving multiplication arithmetic ability through game-based learning mechanisms that integrate structured repetition, healthy competition, and learning progress visualization.
