Abstract

The Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model is an instructional strategy that requires students to work collaboratively in finding solutions to contextual problems. This study aims to determine the effect of the implementation of the PBL model based on ladder media on the basic multiplication calculation skills of 2nd grade students of SDN 10 Tiga Desa. The type of research used is quantitative with a Pre-Experimental design in the form of One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population included all 2nd grade students of SDN 10 Tiga Desa with a saturated sample of 18 students who met the criteria. The data collection technique used a test instrument in the form of an essay of 10 questions and an observation sheet for learning activities. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using reflection tests (normality, homogeneity, linearity) as well as simple linear regression tests and t-tests (Paired Sample T-Test). The results showed a significant increase in the average value (mean) from 56.11 at the pretest to 80.00 at the posttest. The simple linear regression test produced an R Square value of 0.7361, which indicates that the ladder-based PBL model contributed 73.61% to students' multiplication arithmetic skills. Furthermore, the t-test produced a tcount value of -5.006 which was significantly greater than ttable (2.119) with a probability value of 9.72 x 10-5 < 0.05. Thus, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that the implementation of the ladder-based PBL model had a significant positive effect in boosting the numeracy skills of lower-grade students.

Abstract

This study discusses the ethics of social media interaction in Islam in the digital era, which demands communication ethics, moral responsibility, and self-control from every social media user. Social media is not only a means of interaction and information sharing, but also a medium for da’wah, amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, and the development of knowledge and faith when used properly. However, in reality, social media is still often misused through the spread of hoaxes, hate speech, backbiting, slander, and behavior that does not reflect noble character. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature review approach based on the Qur’an, Hadith, books, and relevant scientific journals. The findings show that Islamic social media etiquette includes prioritizing content that benefits faith and knowledge, using social media for da’wah and amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, maintaining communication ethics through polite language, and developing awareness that every action will be accounted for in the hereafter. In addition, Islamic education plays an important role in integrating social media etiquette materials to shape courteous, responsible, and Islamic digital behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as a driving force for community economic empowerment through an evaluation of a pesantren-based vocational education model. This study employed a qualitative approach with library research, using books, scientific journals, and relevant research findings as data sources, analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results indicate that Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play a strategic role in economic empowerment through the development of productive business units, entrepreneurship education, and Sharia-based economic institutions. The pesantren-based vocational education model has proven effective in integrating practical skills with Islamic values, resulting in economically independent and character-based human resources. However, the model's effectiveness still faces challenges in managerial aspects, curriculum, and access to capital, resulting in suboptimal empowerment outcomes. Evaluatively, this study found that the success of Islamic boarding school economic empowerment is largely determined by the systematic integration of the vocational curriculum, professional business management, and the support of institutional networks. Therefore, this study's contribution lies in strengthening the pesantren-based vocational education model as a strategy for sustainable community economic empowerment.

Abstract

Myths and taboos regarding going out to sea are a form of local wisdom among coastal communities that has been passed down from generation to generation; however, the potential value of the ethoscience contained within them has not yet been widely utilized in biology education. This study aims to identify and analyze the myths surrounding fishing prohibitions among the fishing community of Pondok Nelayan Lempasing Beach through an ethnoscience perspective, as well as to examine their potential as a biology learning medium based on local wisdom. The study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through direct interviews with fishermen who understand the traditions and myths prevalent in the local community. The results of the study indicate that the fishing community still practices various fishing prohibitions, such as the prohibition against fishing during January–February, which is associated with the fish spawning season, prohibitions against fishing at specific times, as well as rules regarding the use of fishing gear and maintaining ocean cleanliness. These various practices embody ethnoscience values related to the conservation of fishery resources, the preservation of coastal ecosystems, and the sustainable use of natural resources. These values are linked to biological concepts, such as organism reproduction, ecology, biodiversity, and environmental conservation. Therefore, the myths and fishing taboos at Pondok Nelayan Lempasing Beach have the potential to be integrated as a medium for biology education.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the differences in alcohol fermentation results between Wickerham synthetic medium and natural fruit juice medium using Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolates. The research was conducted on April 29, 2026, at the Microbiology Laboratory, University of Lampung, with a one-week anaerobic fermentation period. Ethanol concentration was measured using the oxidation-titration method with K₂Cr₂O₇ solution followed by back-titration using 0.05 N Na-thiosulfate. Results showed that Wickerham medium produced a higher ethanol concentration of 3.04 mg/mL compared to orange juice medium at 2.80 mg/mL. The higher yield in Wickerham medium is attributed to its standardized and complete nutrient composition, particularly the organic nitrogen sources (yeast extract and peptone) that optimally support glycolytic enzyme synthesis required for sugar-to-ethanol conversion. In contrast, the natural fruit juice medium contained unstandardized nutrients, had lower buffering capacity, and potentially contained compounds such as tannins and flavonoids that may inhibit yeast activity. Both media successfully supported anaerobic fermentation as evidenced by the color change of K₂Cr₂O₇ from orange to blue-green. These findings confirm that fermentation medium composition is a critical variable determining ethanol production efficiency by S. cerevisiae.

Abstract

The increasing production of coconuts has resulted in a large amount of coconut water waste from both household consumption and agro-industrial activities. If not properly utilized, this waste may contribute to environmental pollution due to its high organic content. One of the most promising biotechnological applications is the use of coconut water as a fermentation substrate for the production of nata de coco through the activity of Acetobacter xylinum. This study aims to review various scientific literature regarding the utilization of coconut water, the nutritional composition supporting microbial growth, the fermentation mechanism, factors affecting nata de coco production, product quality, and its economic potential. The research method employed is a literature review by collecting and analyzing scientific journals, books, and relevant research articles. The results indicate that coconut water contains sugars, minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients that support bacterial cellulose formation. Fermentation conditions such as pH, temperature, sugar concentration, and starter quality significantly influence the yield and quality of nata de coco. In addition, the utilization of coconut water waste provides added economic value, supports small-scale industries, and contributes to environmental sustainability through the implementation of a circular economy concept.
