Abstract

The management of coconut shell waste is one of the environmental challenges that requires appropriate solutions. The growing energy demand in line with population growth drives the need for innovative renewable energy–based solutions. One alternative that can be applied is the utilization of Thermoelectric Generator (TEG) technology based on the Seebeck effect in a Biomass Power Plant (PLTBm) system. This study aims to design and develop an electricity generation system that harnesses heat energy from the combustion of coconut shells to produce electrical power for lighting lamps. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method to explain a process or phenomenon without correlating it to other variables. The energy conversion process was carried out using six TEG units connected in series to maximize voltage output. The generated voltage was then regulated and stored in a battery via a Solar Charge Controller (SCC), and monitored using an INA219 sensor connected to an Arduino UNO microcontroller. The experimental results showed that a temperature difference (∆T) of 227.7°C between the hot and cold sides of the TEG produced a maximum voltage of 15.87 volts. This system was proven to monitor TEG performance in real time and provide a reliable power supply for lighting, offering an alternative renewable energy solution utilizing coconut shell waste.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model on students' learning outcomes in the Economics subject for Grade XI students of the Hospitality Program at SMK Negeri 8 Medan. This research is motivated by the low academic performance of students in Economics, especially in the topic of entrepreneurship. The CTL model is designed to relate the learning material to students' real-life contexts to improve their conceptual understanding in a more meaningful way. This study employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design using the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 33 students from class XI PH 2, selected randomly from the population of Grade XI Hospitality students. Data collection instruments included multiple-choice tests covering the cognitive aspects of learning outcomes, which were previously tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis techniques used in this study included descriptive analysis, normality test, simple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed a significant increase in posttest scores compared to pretest scores. The average posttest score was higher than the pretest score. The t-test result showed that tcount = 8.359 > ttable = 2.040, indicating that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model has a positive and significant effect on students' learning outcomes in Economics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of interactive learning assisted by kahoot! on the problem-solving ability of class X students in the quadratic function material at the Free Methodist Private High School Medan. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with probability sampling techniques, where class XA is designated as the experimental class and class XB as the control class. The research instrument used is a test. After calculations using the ????- test , the calculated t is 6.474. For α = 0.05 and df = 61-2 = 59 then t_0.05.59 = 2.95 then obtained t_table = 2.95 obtained t_count> t_table, which means reject H_0 and accept H_a. The results of data analysis show that the sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.000 <0.05 at a significance level of 5%, which means there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The average problem-solving score of students in the experimental class was 83.806, while the control class obtained an average of 69.6. The results of the ???? - ???????????????? test showed that the average score of the experimental class was 0.72 (high category), while the control class obtained a score of 0.53 (medium category). The large influence of interactive learning assisted by Kahoot! on students' problem-solving abilities reached 70.1%. Therefore, it can be concluded that interactive learning assisted by Kahoot! has an effect on the problem-solving abilities of class X students of SMA Swasta Free Methodist Medan on the quadratic function material

Abstract

This study aims to describe: 1) the psychosocial development of the main character, Maik Klingenberg, in Wolfgang Herrndorf's novel Tschick based on Erikson's theory, particularly the stage of identity vs. role confusion, and 2) the factors influencing Maik's identity formation, including family, social environment, and school. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a literary psychology approach. The primary data source was the original German edition of Tschick (2010). Data were collected using the reading-and-note-taking technique and analyzed through classification according to Erikson's psychosocial indicators. The findings reveal that Maik experiences an identity crisis characterized by social role confusion, feelings of alienation, and emotional instability. Through his journey with Tschick, Maik undergoes a process of identity exploration that includes trying new roles, developing independence, and engaging in self-reflection. Eventually, Maik reaches a more mature stage of identity formation. This research contributes to the interdisciplinary study of literature and psychology, and provides practical implications for character education, especially

Abstract

This study looks at how English teachers in Binjai, Indonesia, use the HiNative app to help students learn pronunciation. This research looks at how HiNative can be used in the classroom. It looks at how well it works, what the benefits are, and what the problems might be. This is important because people are focusing more on being able to communicate well, and more and more tools are being used to help with learning languages. Four English teachers were interviewed and gave answers to a questionnaire. We used something called 'thematic analysis', following a method described by Braun and Clarke in 2006, to examine the teachers' experiences and insights. The results show that HiNative had a positive effect on student engagement, motivation, and their self-awareness of pronunciation. Teachers said the app was easy to use and could provide real feedback from native speakers. But there are also some problems, such as limited internet access, people having different levels of digital skills, and not being part of the school day. The study says that HiNative can be a useful tool to help with teaching pronunciation if there is enough training, the right infrastructure, and good teaching plans. These insights are important for the wider discussion about using mobile technology in teaching English as a second language. They show how ready teachers are to use mobile technology and how schools and other organisations support them.

Abstract

The low motivation and unsatisfactory learning outcomes of students in economics subjects have encouraged the need for innovative teaching approaches that integrate technology into the classroom. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform, on students' learning motivation and academic achievement in economics at SMA Swasta Bandung Percut Sei Tuan in the 2024/2025 academic year. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group was employed, involving 59 students divided into experimental and control classes. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and classroom observations, then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent sample t-tests. The results demonstrated that the use of Kahoot! had a significant positive impact on both motivation and learning outcomes. Students in the experimental class showed substantial improvement, with their average score increasing from 53.33 on the pretest to 82.67 on the posttest, while the control class only improved from 42.76 to 55.07. Moreover, motivation levels in the experimental group increased considerably, as evidenced by higher enthusiasm, stronger engagement, and more active participation during learning activities. These findings suggest that Kahoot! is not only effective in enhancing cognitive achievement but also fosters affective aspects of learning by creating a dynamic, enjoyable, and competitive learning environment. The integration of such interactive digital media can be considered an important strategy for teachers to improve the quality of instruction, particularly in economics subjects that often appear abstract and less engaging for students. Therefore, Kahoot! holds great potential to serve as a complementary tool in modern pedagogy, supporting both immediate academic success and long-term motivation in learning

Abstract

The phenomenon of low parental involvement in children’s education is still evident at HKBP Sidorame Private Senior High School Medan, such as limited participation in school activities and communication with teachers, which affects both academic support and character development of students. This study aims to examine the role of parental involvement in the educational process using a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving parents, teachers, and students through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that parental involvement plays an important role in students’ learning success, through home guidance, communication with the school, and participation in school activities, yet the level of involvement varies due to factors such as occupation, time availability, and awareness of education. The greater the parental involvement, the more positive the impact on the educational process of students at school
