Abstract

UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur is one of the campuses in East Java. Various types of waste are produced on campus, including organic waste (used rice, used vegetables, tree branches, leaves, etc.) as well as inorganic waste, one of which is medical mask waste. The existence of these wastes will increase along with increasing human growth, in this case, student enrollment on campus. Therefore, waste processing must be carried out to reduce the generation and impacts that will result. One alternative for processing waste is recycling it into products with high selling value. This community service aims to show that the waste produced can be made into products that have high selling value such as soap from used cooking oil, maggots for fish food, local microorganisms, trash cans from used masks, pots from used masks, candles aromatherapy from used cooking oil and tumbler bottles to reduce use plastic bottles and compost. The method used in community service activities carried out at the UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur campus is to create solutions for managing the waste produced to solve existing problems. The solution is in the form of creating entrepreneurial products as mentioned previously. The result of this community service has been running smoothly and well. The products made have high selling value. This is proven by the entrepreneurial activities that have been carried out showing that these products are in demand by the public.

Abstract

Classroom Action Research is research conducted through action in the classroom by teachers where the target or research subjects are students. Its application is to carry out and make reports on research results that can be written in the form of scientific articles, especially in the field of education. Classroom Action Research is a strategic way for teachers to increase professionalism in teaching and learning activities. In fact, there are teachers who don't know about the technicalities of implementing Classroom Action Research and writing scientific articles. This is also experienced by the teachers at SMPN 2 Balongbendo. Therefore, we do community service at SMPN 2 Balongbendo by applying Google Scholar and Mendeley (GSM) technology to improve the ability to write scientific articles from the results of classroom action research for teachers. In this community service activity, teachers are accompanied in using GSM technology to write scientific articles and publish them. Teachers are also given evaluations in the form of quizzes regarding the material that has been delivered by the service team. In addition, questionnaires were also distributed in the form of Google forms and the results showed that the teachers were very enthusiastic in participating in community service activities. Based on the results of the questionnaire, it was shown that 66.7% answered appropriate and 33.3% answered very appropriate regarding the suitability of the Mendeley and Google Scholar applications in improving the ability to write scientific articles for teachers.

Abstract

Gender inequality remains a prominent and multifaceted issue in Indonesia, spanning across social, economic, and security dimensions. In the context of higher education, these disparities manifest in unequal access to opportunities, differential treatment, and limited access to marginalized gender groups. This study delves into the pressing need to establish a gender-responsive university environment that fosters inclusivity, safety, and equality for all. Focusing on the case study of employees at UPN Veteran Jawa Timur, this research employs a comprehensive mixed-methods approach, integrating surveys, focus group discussions, and qualitative interviews to assess the institution's current state of gender responsiveness. By examining policies, practices, and perceptions, it seeks to identify both the strengths and areas for improvement within the institution's gender equality framework. Furthermore, this study uses indicators of gender-responsive higher education as well as gender equality targets in sustainable development goals as a tool of analysis. This research found that the majority of respondents express the overall adequacy of gender-responsive policies in UPN Veteran Jawa Timur. However, some specific sectors need further attention and refinement, particularly regarding gender-friendly facilities such as nursing room and access for people with disability. The study also underscores the necessity of holistic efforts to navigate the intricate pathways toward a gender responsive university in the future.

Abstract

The project-based learning method is a learning method that is considered to provide more learning experiences than other learning methods, such as discussions and lectures in class. In addition, project-based methods can also provide effective learning outcomes. In learning to write articles, both scientific articles and popular articles, a project-based learning method is needed that can improve students' writing skills. For this reason, in writing scientific articles the "literacy space" method is used, while in writing popular articles the artpop method is used. This research was conducted to compare the effectiveness of the two methods. The research methods used are qualitative and quantitative research. Data collection techniques used were documentation, questionnaires, and student scores. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively, and quantitatively. From the comparative studies that have been carried out, the two methods have significant differences and similarities. However, in terms of effectiveness in learning, the Artpop learning method is considered more effective. The difference in the effectiveness of the two is 2.8%. The artpop learning method is more effective because the learning activities carried out are simple. Students only need to change scientific articles that have been published on Google Scholar into popular articles that can be read by the public in simple language. When writing scientific articles, activities are needed that can increase students' understanding in terms of writing titles, introductions, literature reviews, research methods, results and discussions, citations and bibliography. Meanwhile, in writing popular articles, activities are needed to support students' understanding in terms of writing titles, introductions, contents, and closings. The learning methods used appropriately accommodate the needs of these students.

Abstract

The preparedness of educators to teach foundational skills such as literacy and numeracy is critical for student success, especially in the early years of education. This literature review explores the current body of research on teacher readiness to instruct in these essential areas. Methodologically, the review synthesizes empirical studies, theoretical frameworks, and best practices published in peer-reviewed journals, reports, and educational white papers. Key findings reveal that teacher readiness is influenced by multiple factors including educational background, professional development, access to resources, and pedagogical support. The review also identifies gaps in the existing literature, particularly in the context of digital transitions and inclusive education. The insights gained from this study could guide future research and inform policy interventions aimed at enhancing teacher readiness for effective literacy and numeracy instruction.

Abstract

In the digital era, websites are a very important online presence for organizations, including universities. A good and professional website can help universities improve their image and reputation, reach a wider range of prospective students, and promote themselves online. Seeing the urgency of a website for tertiary institutions, it is necessary to evaluate it to ensure the expected benefits of the website can be achieved. This study aims to evaluate the usability of the official website of study programs at UPN Veteran Jawa Timur using the System Usability Scale (SUS). Ten official websites of study programs at UPN Veteran Jawa Timur were taken as samples. The results of the usability evaluation show that the average SUS score is 61.4, where the conclusion is marginally low, so it can still be increased to an acceptable level. The results of the usability evaluation with the System Usability Scale (SUS) will be used to design mockup websites for study programs at UPN Veteran Jawa Timur.

Abstract

The SIMAPA system is a system for monitoring children's activities and development which is implemented at KB-TK Agripina Surabaya. The SIMAPA system has been designed using system development, namely SDLC (System Development Life Cycle). The system can be declared valid and by what is expected if testing has been carried out. An application can be tested using collaborative alpha and beta testing using the black box method. Alpha testing is carried out to see whether all systems can run well and is carried out by the system manufacturer. Meanwhile, in beta testing, the party who will assess the system is the user or people who are not involved in creating the system. This testing is carried out by distributing questionnaires to several users to assess the application that has been built. The questionnaire contains questions about the system being built so that it can be concluded whether the application is by the objectives. The results of the Beta test with 6 questions about the system obtained good results with an average score of 92%. so that the system built is by what is expected.
