Abstract

Causal Euphoria of Yajña Ritual is a term coined by the researcher himself that refers to the accumulation of various phenomena in the implementation of yajña by Hindus in Bali. The implementation of yajña in Bali in the modern era in a certain quantity and capacity tends to display its festive side, so that the value or main purpose of the implementation of yajña is doubtful. In addition, there are 3 specific problems that must be studied and evaluated in this research, including the concept of Causal Euphoria Ritual Yajña, then the causes of the emergence of Causal Euphoria Ritual Yajña (CERiYa) among the younger generation of Hindus in Bali, and solutions in overcoming Causal Euphoria Ritual Yajña Implementation (CERiYa) among the younger generation of Hindus in Bali. Basically, the purpose of this research is to contribute thoughts to the dynamics of religious life, especially in the field of tradition and culture. Therefore, in the future, the implementation of yajña is not only focused on the systematics of implementation, but also understands its philosophical value.Given that this research is a type of Qualitative research, the data collection used literature and document recording techniques. The results of the analysis and evaluation show that Causal Euphoria of Yajña Ritual is a number of causes of the emergence of excessive excitement in a yajña ritual. The causes in question are largely due to several things, such as a low level of understanding of religious philosophy, a wrong religious perspective, and the unstoppable flow of modernization and globalization. Based on this analysis, it can be concluded that there needs to be an improvement in the field of Hindu religious education, especially regarding yajña in in-formal, formal, and non-formal environments that are not only centered on the theoretical aspects but also on the quality of educators or religious instructors and the deepening of yajña philosophy.

Abstract

Indonesia, with its religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity, faces great challenges in maintaining harmony between religious communities. Pasraman, as a non-formal educational institution that teaches Hinduism, has an important role in instilling the values of religious moderation in the younger generation. This study aims to analyse the learning strategy of religious moderation in pasraman, Mataram City, and the impact of internalising these values on sisyas. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and documentation studies in several active pasramans in Mataram. The study results show that pasraman implements five main learning strategies system-oriented, expositive, cooperative, contextual, and affective. This strategy focuses on teaching the values of tolerance, respect for differences, and social harmony. Despite challenges such as a limited understanding of Acarya and limited facilities, the study's results revealed that the value of religious moderation has succeeded in shaping the character of sisya, who are more open, tolerant, and ready to contribute to a multicultural society. This research contributes to developing Hindu religious education based on religious moderation in Indonesia, especially in increasing tolerance and harmony in a plural society.

Abstract

This study reviews the implementation of Hindu Religious Education in tourism development in Bali with the functionality of local wisdom and spirituality. The rapid growth of the tourism sector in Bali threatens the preservation of local culture and spirituality. This research aims to identify the role of Hindu Religious Education in integrating spiritual and cultural values in tourism management while maintaining a balance between economic aspects and cultural preservation. Through qualitative methods with case studies, data was obtained from in-depth interviews with various related parties. The results of the study show that Hindu Religious Education plays an important role in maintaining and spreading Balinese cultural and spiritual values in the tourism sector. This integration also helps protect sacred places and religious practices from the negative impacts of tourism. However, the main challenge faced is the commercialization of tourism which can come at the expense of the preservation of cultural identity. Thus, tourism management that combines Hindu religious values and local wisdom offers a sustainable model and respects culture. It is important to find a balance between economic development and the preservation of Hindu cultural identity and spirituality in Bali in the long term.

Abstract

Rejang Keraman dance is part of the wali (sacred) dance tradition within Hindu rituals in Bali, commonly performed during religious ceremonies. Unlike other forms of wali dance, Rejang Keraman may be performed by both men and women and symbolically represents the manifestation of sacred feminine energy. However, scholarly studies on Rejang Keraman have primarily focused on its aesthetic and cultural dimensions, while theological approaches remain rare. This research addresses that gap by offering a novel theological analysis of the dance. The study aims to explore Rejang Keraman as a theological expression within the local context of Balinese Hinduism. The research was conducted in Kedis Village, Busungbiu District, Buleleng Regency, where the dance is a vital component of the Pujawali (temple anniversary) ceremony at the village temple. A qualitative method was employed, utilizing participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. Applying a contextual theological approach, the study interprets how Hindu religious values are practiced and understood dynamically within the framework of local culture. The findings reveal that Rejang Keraman functions not merely as an artistic performance but as a theological medium that bridges the relationship between humans, nature, and the divine. The practice reflects a spirituality that is inclusive and adaptive, offering a pathway for developing a contextual Hindu theology rooted in local traditions. The study recommends the preservation and reinterpretation of sacred local rituals as an essential foundation for formulating Hindu theological perspectives relevant to contemporary social dynamics.

Abstract

Dharmagita education in the province of West Nusa Tenggara is experiencing a decline in interest among the younger generation due to modernisation and globalisation, which shifts their attention from spiritual cultural heritage to digital entertainment. This phenomenon raises concerns about the preservation of Hindu religious values and traditional culture. This research will explore strategies for revitalising Dharmagita education for the Hindu youth in NTB through an integrative approach that includes formal education, non-formal pasraman, art communities, the use of digital technology, and competition activities. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilising data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation involving Dharmagita practitioners, educators, and members of the Hindu community. The research results show that effective revitalisation is achieved by integrating Dharmagita learning into school and pasraman curricula, providing teacher training, utilising interactive digital media, and regularly organising Dharmagita competitions as a form of appreciation and stimulation for the younger generation. In addition, the revival of this tradition as a component of character building and religious identity formation requires active involvement from families, communities, and religious institutions. This research concludes that the revitalisation of Dharmagita is an important strategy for preserving Hindu culture, strengthening the moral and spiritual values of the Hindu youth in NTB, and serving as a model of education based on local wisdom that is relevant to the challenges of the digital era.

Abstract

Wariga is a traditional knowledge system rooted in Balinese Hindu cosmology, transmitted across generations through ritual practice, oral tradition, and classical palm-leaf manuscripts (lontar). It serves as a spiritual and practical guide for determining auspicious (dewasa ayu) and inauspicious (ala dewasa) days for a wide range of activities, including religious ceremonies, agricultural practices, construction, marriage, and travel. In the indigenous communities of Buleleng, Wariga has long functioned as a sacred system sustaining harmony between humans, nature, and the divine. However, the forces of modernity, technological digitization, and generational shifts in values have contributed to significant transformations in the way Wariga is practiced, interpreted, and valued. This study aims to examine how Wariga is transforming in contemporary Buleleng society and to analyze the responses of local communities particularly customary leaders and younger generations to these changes. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with Wariga experts, community elders, youth, and digital content creators, as well as document and media analysis. The findings reveal a shift from a sacred, community-based epistemology to a more individualized and pragmatic application of Wariga, often accessed via digital platforms and mobile applications. Youth tend to engage with Wariga symbolically and functionally, while many traditional leaders express concern over the erosion of its spiritual and philosophical depth. Despite this, emerging intergenerational initiatives aim to revitalize Wariga through educational, contextual, and culturally grounded digital strategies. The study concludes that Wariga is not disappearing but is undergoing a dynamic reconfiguration shaped by the tension between tradition and modernity.

Abstract

Kebo Taruna, within the discursive construction of centrality in shaping various aspects of Balinese society, possesses an inherent connection to the concept of representation. The ideational conception of this character is specifically conveyed in the Geguritan Kebo Tarunāntaka. The manuscript contains discourse mechanisms, metaphorical language, and distinctive constructions of meaning. Textually, the geguritan illustrates Kebo Taruna’s role in de-hegemonizing the dominance of the Majapahit Kingdom over the Balinese Kingdom. This study aims to identify the emancipatory dimensions of the Kebo Taruna character in selected stanzas of the Geguritan Kebo Tarunāntaka, to analyze his representation as a symbol of resistance against Majapahit’s hegemonic power, and to reinterpret the geguritan as a medium of decolonial discourse. The approach employed combines Norman Fairclough’s model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) with speech act theory. The findings indicate that Kebo Taruna is represented as a symbolic agent who articulates resistance to the coloniality of power and constructs a sovereign and autonomous Balinese identity. The gegugitan reveals emancipatory dimensions through its rejection of hegemonic narratives, glorification of sovereignty, and transformation of language into a decolonial instrument. The conclusion affirms that Geguritan Kebo Tarunāntaka is not merely a literary heritage, but a discursive medium that embodies symbolic resistance, articulates a liberated cultural identity, and enacts decolonial strategies through language making it highly relevant for critical readings of power discourse within the Balinese local context.

Abstract

The era of modernization presents significant challenges to ethical values and character, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening character education. Hindu philosophy, particularly the concept of Tri Guna, offers a relevant framework to address these challenges. This research aims to thoroughly analyze the relevance and potential application of the Tri Guna values (Sattwa, Rajas, Tamas) as a philosophical foundation for strengthening Hindu character education in the midst of modernization. The research method employed is library research with a qualitative approach, analyzing various primary and secondary literature sources descriptively and interpretatively. Research findings indicate that Tri Guna effectively maps the dynamics of basic human nature and provides guidance for character development. A balanced management of Sattwa (goodness/purity), Rajas (activity/passion), and Tamas (darkness/inertia) is identified as key to building integrity, moral resilience, and individual adaptability in facing the complexities of modern life. It is concluded that the Tri Guna concept holds strong relevance and strategic value as a basis for strengthening character education in the modern era, contributing to the formation of a generation with superior, balanced character capable of making positive contributions to society.
