Abstract

The application of the values of Pradnyan and Purusottama in character education is crucial for improving the learning outcomes of Hindu Religious Education. The lack of understanding of these values needs to be examined to identify effective strategies in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the extent to which the characters of Pradnyan and Purusottama have a positive impact on the learning outcomes of Hindu Religious Education among students at Utama Widyalaya Wira Dharma Palu for the academic year 2024/2025. This research uses a quantitative research method with an explanatory approach. Respondents consist of students from grades X, XI, and XII, selected randomly. Data were collected through questionnaires and academic documents, then analyzed using simple and multiple linear regression to determine the relationship between variables. The results indicate that the character of Pradnyan contributes 76.3%, while the character of Purusottama contributes 79.7% to the learning outcomes of Hindu Religious Education. Simultaneously, both variables contribute 81.1%, with the remaining percentage influenced by other factors such as the learning environment, teaching methods, and learning motivation. These findings confirm that character education plays a crucial role in shaping students' understanding and learning achievements. The application of the Pradnyan character strengthens students' ability to think critically and wisely in understanding Hindu teachings, while the Purusottama character encourages students to achieve moral and spiritual excellence. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of the values of Pradnyan and Purusottama in the teaching and learning process is highly effective and has a positive impact on improving the learning outcomes of Hindu Religious Education. Therefore, the integration of character education into the Hindu Religious Education curriculum needs to be strengthened to ensure students achieve optimal learning outcomes and possess good morals and ethics in their daily lives.

Abstract

The Chipko Movement represents an ecological movement initiated by a group of Indian women, driven by the activities of forest environmental destruction. This effort then transformed into an environmental advocacy movement. This practice has the same linearity as the Balinese Hindu community. The way to implement the local community's version of cosmology is through saput poleng (a black-and-white cloth) and the internalization of the Mother Earth concept. The aim of this research is to analyze environmental preservation initiated by local movements, thereby contributing to ecological practices. This research applies the method of intertextuality by analyzing the Chipko Movement and saput poleng. Chipko Movement is interpreted as an affirmation of women as individuals who share responsibility in preserving the environment. This reality is seen from the consistency in protecting forest areas from logging activities. This movement is also implemented in actions to preserve land and forests, as forests and land are considered substantive components of society. The Chipko Movement represents a form of social struggle by the local population, which then transformed into ecological awareness to protect forest areas. The movement has a correlation with saput poleng in Bali, as a way to protect vital areas such as forests by wrapping cloth with circular patterns, with the aim of preserving the ecosystem as a central arena in human life. Wrapping the linear saput poleng with a vision of environmental preservation based on matrilineal principles, emphasizing that women become agents with an extension as tummerfrauen. In conclusion, the Chipko Movement and saput poleng, with differentiated loci, share the same typology, namely associating nature as the personification of mother.

Abstract

Globalization seems to have had a significant influence on Joged Bungbung, where art that initially displayed an aesthetic side is now turning towards an erotic side. Like Balinese dances in general, every dance generally has a standard called catur wi or four dance element guidelines, namely wirama, wiraga, wirupa and wirasa. This wi chess certainly contains Hindu religious values. Based on Hindu religious values, the art of Joged Bungbung should remain in the aesthetic corridor. The basic problem is that there has been no in-depth study regarding the elements of catur wi which contain Hindu religious values in the Joged Bungbung dance. The aim of this research is to become a reference in the development of the Joged Bungbung dance which is in accordance with Hindu religious values. Using a qualitative research methodology approach, researchers collected data, reduced data and presented data in descriptive form. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observations and document studies regarding the urgency and implementation of chess wi which is based on Hindu religious values in Gianyar district. The results of this research show the urgency of actualizing chess wi based on Hindu religious values, namely, the existence of ethics and aesthetics in the art of Joged Bungbung, secondly the role of Joged Bungbung art in social life, thirdly, joged art is a dancer's self-representation. The form of actualization of chess wi which is based on Hindu religious values contains religious values in the components of wiraga, wirama, wirasa and wirupa. The conclusion is that Gianyar still exists and maintains the art of jogging by adhering to the tenets of chess wi which are based on Hindu religious values.

Abstract

Water holds a highly significant position in the lives of Hindus, not only as a basic necessity but also as an essential element in religious and social activities. However, over time, the quality and quantity of water in Bali have degraded, including in the villages of Medahan and Keramas in Blahbatuh Subdistrict, Gianyar Regency. This research aims to rediscover the values of deep ecology ethics in the efforts to preserve the water sources in these two villages to ensure that the water sources remain sustainable and can be passed down to future generations. This research uses observation, interviews and documentation studies to collect data, as well as qualitative descriptive methods to present research results. Based on research results, it was found that Medahan and Keramas villages have numerous water sources that are socially and spiritually significant. The community preserves them through the construction of sacred sites, the instilling of beliefs about the importance of water sources, the installation of warning signs, and communal efforts to clean the water sources. These water conservation actions, practiced and passed down by the community, are closely linked to the principles of deep ecology ethics, which urge humans to respect nature and recognize the rights of nature as equal to human rights. This ethic asserts that all living beings possess intrinsic value and are deserving of moral consideration. The implementation of deep ecology ethics emphasizes love and reverence for nature, akin to love for God. This research shows that the preservation of water sources in Medahan and Keramas is not only an ecological action but also a spiritual expression that reflects harmony between humans, nature, and God.

Abstract

Marriage in Balinese society has traditionally been regarded as a sacred institution, deeply rooted in religious values and customary law. However, over the past few decades, significant shifts have occurred as a result of modernization, globalization, and broader social changes. One phenomenon that reflects this transformation is Sing Beling Sing Nganten, a vernacular expression increasingly circulated in contemporary Balinese discourse. The phrase refers to the social tendency wherein a couple formalizes their marriage only after the bride is already pregnant. This practice signifies a fundamental shift in the construction of marital sanctity, challenging earlier conceptions of marriage as a purely sacred and ritually-bound institution. It also suggests the emergence of a new paradigm in how marriage legitimacy is socially recognized within the Balinese context. This study employs a phenomenological approach to explore individual experiences and collective perceptions of the Sing Beling Sing Nganten phenomenon. Utilizing qualitative methods primarily in-depth interviews and participant observation, it seeks to understand how this practice is experienced, interpreted, and negotiated in everyday life, particularly by women. The central objective of this research is to analyze how Sing Beling Sing Nganten operates as a social practice that contributes to the shifting values surrounding the institution of marriage, specifically in relation to its perceived sacredness. Findings from the study indicate that this phenomenon is not merely a reflection of value transformation but also constitutes a strategic adaptation to the increasing social and economic pressures faced by individuals and families. The normalization of this practice in urban Balinese settings is shaped by the intersection of traditional cultural norms and modern pragmatic outlooks. As such, this research offers not only a phenomenological account of an evolving cultural practice but also a critical reflection on the broader transformation of value systems in contemporary Balinese society.

Abstract

The performance of the Leko Dance at the Dewa Yadnya ceremony in Banjar Tangkup, Kedisan Village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency, has a uniqueness in terms of its performance and its existence is quite rare. This makes the Leko Dance important to study. In this study, the problems to be discussed are focused on two things, namely the reasons for performing the Leko Dance at the Dewa Yajnā ceremony in Banjar Tangkup and the form of the Leko Dance performance. This study uses a qualitative method. Data collection was carried out using observation techniques, in-depth interview techniques, and document study techniques. The technique used to analyze the data is verstehen. The results of the study show that the performance of the Leko Dance is based on the religious encouragement of the community which is based on sincere feelings called ngayah. Mythologically, the performance of the Leko Dance is believed by the Banjar Tangkup community to be a duwe sesuunan at Pura Puseh. The variety of movements and the structure of the presentation of the Leko Dance in Banjar Tangkup are very simple, delivered with soft, flexible and supple movements, consisting of the panglembar and pengipuk parts. In the Leko Dance, two characters appear, namely the male character and the female character. The male character in this case is the role of Natraduwa and the female character is the two nymphs who tempt Natraduwa in his hermitage.
