Abstract

Tofu is a food product that contains high water which causes the shelf life of tofu to be short. Some manufacturers add preservatives to extend its shelf life. However, some rogue manufacturers add prohibited preservatives such as formalin. Formalin reduction can be done using Curcuma xanthorrhiza, which can reduce formalin through saponification mechanism. This research aims to determine the optimal conditions for formalin reduction using curcuma. Tofu samples that have been contacted with formalin were treated by immersion with a solution of curcuma, then reacted with Schiff’s reagent and measured by spectrophotometer UV-Visible at a maximum wavelength of 556 nm. Optimization was carried out using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with Central Composite Design (CCD) method. Independent variables that were used in this optimization were concentration of curcuma and soaking time. Data analysis of reduced formalin content was carried out using Minitab version 19. RSM equation for optimization of concentration of curcuma (X1) and soaking time (X2) to obtain the maximum value of reduced formalin is y=19,63–1,70X1–0,368X2+0,2034X12+0,00954X22–0,0052X1X2. The optimization results of RSM showed that the optimal condition was at concentration of 8.53% v/v and immersion time of 51.21 minutes, with a predicted amount of reduced formalin of 23.90 µg/g (45,89%).

Abstract

Diarrhea is a disorder of defecation more than 3 times a day with a liquid stool consistency, which may be accompanied by blood and/or mucus. This plant has the potential to be used as an alternative treatment for diarrhea, one of which is cowpea (Vigna sinensis L.). Cowpea is a plant that has secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids, sterols and tannins which are thought to have activity as antidiarrheal. This study aims to determine the activity and dose of cowpea as antidiarrheal against male white mice with oleum ricini-induced diarrhea protection. The test was carried out by inducing mice using 0,75 mL of Ricini oleum orally first, 1 hour later given a test solution in the form of 0,5% Na CMC suspension, 0,52 mg/kgBB loperamide test solution, cowpea infusa doses of 1,5 g/kgBB, 3 g/kgBB and 6 g/kgBB. Then observations were made on the weight of diarrhea feces and the diameter of water absorption every 30 minutes for 5 hours. The results showed that cowpea infusa with doses of 1,5 g/kgBB, 3 g/kgBB and 6 g/kgBB had activity as antidiarrheal indicated by a significant difference in the test group against the negative control group (p ≤0.05).

Abstract

Based on Riskesdas data (2018), the prevalence of hypertension in South Kalimantan was 10.81% or higher in 2020 compared to the national average of 8.8%. High blood pressure can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease when combined with risk factors like obesity, bad eating habits, smoking, and a sedentary lifestyle. A strategy that incorporates the pharmacist's reminders and motivation through the use of short messaging services (SMS) and modified brief counseling is required to help patients behave better when taking drugs in order to achieve therapeutic success. The purpose of the study is to determine how both interventions affected the drug use of street hypertensive patients at X Hospital Banjarmasin. With a Randomized Pre-test – Post-test Control Group Design, the study project is an experimental quota. The prospective data collection was done on road nursing patients. 34 patients (or 50% of the total) were assigned to the treatment group, and 34 individuals (or 50% of the total) were assigned to the control group, after meeting the inclusion criteria of 68 hypertensive patients. Drug-related behavior questionnaires and interviews were used to gather data. Pharmacists who administered both of these programs found that the treatment group's drug behavior score increased significantly (p<0,05).
