Abstract

Cempedak is a tropical native fruit from Indonesia and can be consumed by fermenting the skin fruit using a salt solution. The results of the fermentation called Mandai. Fermentation will be successful if there is a role of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB). Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the content of LAB in Mandai and isolates when fermented at different times. This study was carried out by dilution and the Pour Plate method, identifications such as morphological identification by gram staining and biochemical test by catalase t and TSIA test. Identification of this study was the observation of clear zone around the bacteria grown on MRSA media as a selective medium for LAB plus CaCO3. In this study, 5 samples of Mandai were used with different fermentation times. The results of the LAB isolation study in Mandai showed that the longer the Mandai fermentation was carried out, the more colonies there would be. While the LAB type was only found in sample 5 which was fermented within 20 weeks. The results obtained were following the characteristics of LAB, including gram-positive bacteria in the form of bacilli or cocci, not having catalase enzyme, and being able to ferment carbohydrates.

Abstract

The selection of an emulsifier in a cream formulation is a crucial factor, as the quality and stability of an emulsion. Additionally, an improper ratio of additives can result in unstable physical properties of the product during storage. Patikan kebo (Euphorbia hirta L.) is a plant that can be used as a natural component in anti-aging products. Optimization of 14 cream formulas was carried out using three optimization factors: ethanol extract of patikan kebo leaves (Euphorbia hirta L.) a concentration range of 1-3%, triethanolamine with a concentration range of 2-4%, and stearic acid within a concentration range of 1-3%. The optimization was performed using Design Expert software version 13 used the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method. The measured parameters included spreadability, pH, and viscosity. The research results a desirability value of 1.000, with extract ratio of 1%, TEA at 2%, and stearic acid at 3%. This combination resulted in the physical properties of the formulation, including a spreadability of 6.5 ± 0 cm, pH of 5.5 ± 0, and viscosity of 17,880 ± 0.0404 cP, which fulfilled the criteria set by the relevant cream formulation standards.

Abstract

Eyeshadow is a cosmetic that contains color pigments derived from natural/inorganic ingredients. The results of the BPOM survey conducted in 2021 to 2022 found that 16 sample products of blush on, nail polish, lip balm, eyeshadow and lipstick did not meet the requirements, containing prohibited ingredients, Rhodamine B. Considering the high use of cosmetics by the public and the report of eyeshadows that contain Rhodamine B, then it is necessary toidentify the Rhodamine B content in the eyeshadow. The aim of this study was to identify Rhodamine B in eyeshadow samples using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The samples used were 4 different brands without BPOM registration numbers, consisting of 10 pallets, with pink to dark red colors. Identification was carried out using the TLC method with the mobile phase n-butanol: ethyl acetate: 25% ammonia (55:20:25). The test was carried out in 2 replications with the test results showing that 3 out of 10 samples showed the color and the Rf value that was in line with the Rf 0.63 of Rhodamine B standard. Further analysis was carried out by applying the UV light at 254 nm and 366 nm to the plate, and showed a typical fluorescence of Rhodamine B.
