Abstract

This study aimed to analyze factors influencing nurses' compliance with standard precautions at Hospital X in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Compliance with these precautions is essential for preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), yet adherence among nurses remains inconsistent. Understanding the determinants of compliance is crucial for improving infection control practices and ensuring patient safety, particularly in resource-limited settings. A quantitative descriptive-analytic design was employed, involving 221 nurses selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Chi-square and logistic regression tests. The findings revealed that 74.7% of nurses demonstrated compliance, 24.4% had moderate compliance, and 0.9% were non-compliant. Several factors significantly influenced compliance, including education level (p = 0.047), knowledge (p = 0.005), infection prevention and control (IPC) training (p = 0.013), management support (p = 0.000), supervision (p = 0.000), and infrastructure availability (p = 0.000). Among these, infrastructure availability emerged as the most dominant factor, with compliance reaching 93.2% in well-equipped environments. The study highlights the importance of structured training programs, strong managerial support, and adequate infrastructure to enhance compliance with standard precautions and reduce HAIs. Strengthening these aspects is particularly crucial in resource-limited healthcare settings. Future research should focus on designing and evaluating intervention strategies to sustain high compliance rates and further mitigate the risks associated with HAIs.

Abstract

This study aims to compare phosvitin isolation procedures from chicken egg yolk based on purity level, time efficiency, and functional activity. The procedures compared include previously published methods and modified methods developed in this study. Phosvitin was isolated from 10 samples of native chicken eggs collected from farms in the Mataram area using a stratified random sampling approach. The isolation process involved several sequential steps: sedimentation, centrifugation, dialysis, and lyophilization. A comparative analysis of the two procedures was conducted based on protein profile characteristics using SDS-PAGE and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to identify phosphate group interactions and metal ion binding. SDS-PAGE results showed that both procedures yielded α-phosvitin (35 kDa) and β-phosvitin (45 kDa) protein bands. FTIR spectra confirmed that both phosvitin samples contained high levels of phosphate groups, indicating strong phosphorylation and good protein stability. From a chemical and biological standpoint, the modified procedure showed no qualitative differences compared to the previously established method. However, the modified protocol was approximately 30 minutes faster and did not require a pH adjustment step, making it a simpler and more time-efficient alternative for isolating phosvitin from egg yolk.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a vegan panna cotta using winter melon (Benincasa hispida), non-dairy cream, soy milk, and agar-agar, focusing on improving nutritional value and organoleptic acceptability. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor and four treatments was employed: P1 (40 g winter melon puree, 2 g agar-agar), P2 (40 g winter melon puree, 3 g agar-agar), P3 (60 g winter melon puree, 2 g agar-agar), and P4 (60 g winter melon puree, 3 g agar-agar). The analyses included vitamin C content, crude fiber, fat content, and organoleptic evaluations of taste and texture. The results revealed that: (1) P3 showed the best performance, with the highest vitamin C and crude fiber content and the best organoleptic scores for taste and texture; (2) Effectiveness tests also ranked P3 as the most optimal formulation with the highest total effectiveness score (0.9478); (3) P4 excelled in vitamin C and crude fiber content but scored lower in organoleptic properties compared to P3; (4) P1 and P2 demonstrated less optimal performance across various parameters. Thus, the P3 formulation (60 g winter melon puree and 2 g agar-agar) is recommended as the best formulation for producing high-quality vegan panna cotta in terms of nutritional value and organoleptic acceptability. This product has the potential to become a healthy, eco-friendly dessert innovation with high nutritional value, catering to the needs of modern consumers.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and analyze the validity of the FLIP-LOCAL learning model in enhancing students' creativity and independence. The research employs a quantitative descriptive method, specifically a Research and Development (R&D) approach, focusing on content validity and construct validity, involving two education experts. The model was validated by experts to assess the clarity of its syntax, social system, reaction principles, and effectiveness in learning. The validation results indicate that the FLIP-LOCAL syntax consists of five main stages: preparation, exploration, elaboration, presentation, and evaluation, which are considered systematic and supportive of local potential-based learning. The social system of this model promotes active interaction between teachers and students, while the reaction principles emphasize reflective feedback, despite differences in perception among the validators. The analysis was conducted using Aiken’s V formula and Lawshe’s Content Validity Ratio (CVR), and overall, the model was rated as valid/highly valid with a total score of 58. The FLIP-LOCAL model integrates the flipped classroom approach and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) to enhance student engagement in more independent and creative learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the substitution concentration of Cilembu sweet potato purée and coconut pulp that provides the best chemical and organoleptic quality for white shrimp nuggets. The research method used is a laboratory experiment. Parametric data, including carbohydrate content, protein content, fat content, and fiber content, were analyzed for normality and homogeneity, followed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) using SPSS software. White shrimp nuggets are a restructured meat product that falls into the category of frozen ready-to-eat foods. The identified conclusion is that different concentrations of Cilembu sweet potato purée and coconut pulp do not significantly affect carbohydrate content, fat content, fiber content, and protein content. However, they do influence the texture and taste of white shrimp nuggets, but not their aroma and color. Based on effectiveness testing, the best treatment was identified as P4.
