Abstract

Mobile gaming, as a rapidly expanding industry, has introduced unique linguistic elements into daily communication, particularly among university students. While these terms may support EFL learners in improving their language skills, research in this area remains limited. This study aims to explore the newly emerging terms in Mobile Legends and their potential impact on EFL university students’ vocabulary growth and reading comprehension. A total of 35 students participated in gameplay-based learning sessions, and data were gathered using vocabulary tests, comprehension tasks, and reflective journals through a mixed-method approach. The findings suggest that consistent exposure to gaming terms from Mobile Legends significantly broadens students’ vocabulary and enhances their understanding of reading materials. Additionally, students reported higher motivation and engagement when learning English through gaming. The study concludes that incorporating gaming language as supplementary material in the EFL classroom can play a valuable role in supporting vocabulary acquisition and improving comprehension outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the role of impromptu speaking in enhancing spontaneous communication skills among university EFL students. The research aims to identify the primary challenges students encounter during impromptu speech and the strategies they utilize before, during, and after the activity. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations involving 44 sixth-semester English major students at Universitas Jambi. Instruments included interview guides and observation checklists. The findings indicate that the main difficulties experienced by students are limited vocabulary, anxiety, poor sentence organization, and unfamiliarity with topics. To address these challenges, students employed various communication strategies, such as simplifying vocabulary, using synonyms, managing anxiety through breathing techniques, and drawing on personal experiences. Post-speech strategies involved vocabulary expansion through reading, regular practice of spontaneous speaking, and seeking peer feedback. The study concludes that despite inherent challenges, impromptu speaking is an effective tool for promoting speaking fluency, confidence, and practical communicative competence. It is recommended that EFL instructors incorporate impromptu speaking activities into their curricula, providing on-going support and strategic guidance to foster students' competence and confidence in speaking.

Abstract

The use of technology in education has grown rapidly, with video-based learning media becoming one of the effective tools in improving the quality and effectiveness of teaching. The CapCut application, known as a video editing platform, offers features that can be used to develop interesting and informative learning videos. This study focuses on the use of CapCut in creating video learning media for Physical Education and Sports subjects, with the aim of evaluating its effectiveness in improving student understanding and engagement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using CapCut-based video learning media in improving student understanding and engagement in Physical Education and Sports subjects. This study aims to explore how videos made with CapCut can affect the way students understand the concepts of sports and physical activity and the extent to which this media can increase student motivation and engagement in the learning process. This study uses a mixed research method, namely a combination of quantitative and qualitative. The results of the study showed that the use of CapCut-based video learning media significantly improved students' understanding of Physical Education and Sports materials. Videos developed with CapCut were able to present information visually and auditorily that clarified complex concepts. In addition, students showed increased engagement and motivation in the learning process, as reflected in class activities and their responses to video materials. Educators also reported that this media facilitated the delivery of materials and increased interaction with students. This study concludes that the use of CapCut in developing video learning media has a significant positive impact on students' understanding and engagement in Physical Education and Sports. CapCut provides a tool that allows educators to create engaging and interactive learning videos, which in turn improves the quality of learning and student motivation. Therefore, the application of this technology can be an effective solution to improve the learning process in schools. Further research is recommended to explore other aspects of the use of digital media in education and to identify best practices in its implementation

Abstract

This study focuses on curriculum innovation, exploring its key characteristics and the processes involved in its development. As the foundational document that outlines educational goals, learning objectives, and instructional methods, the curriculum plays a vital role in shaping the quality of education. In the context of globalization and rapid scientific and technological advancement, it is essential that curricula be continuously revised to remain relevant and capable of producing competitive and future-ready human resources. Without a well-structured curriculum, achieving educational objectives becomes exceedingly difficult. This study employs a qualitative approach using literature review and content analysis, involving systematic stages of data presentation, reduction, verification, and conclusion drawing. From the analysis, four conceptual approaches to curriculum innovation are identified: (1) the helpful approach, which addresses the need for physical infrastructure to support new learning materials; (2) the instructional approach, which emphasizes the importance of equipping educators with adequate understanding and skills to implement innovations; (3) the persuasive approach, aimed at encouraging stakeholders to support curriculum changes through communication and engagement; and (4) the coercive approach, which uses policy or authority-driven mandates to enforce necessary adjustments. Given the constantly evolving demands of society, a flexible, contextualized, and responsive curriculum is crucial. Educational institutions must therefore engage in continuous curriculum development grounded in situational analysis and real-world needs to ensure alignment with the changing educational landscape.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Field Work Practice (FWP) in the Independent Curriculum in two Vocational High Schools (SMK), namely SMKN 1 Driyorejo and SMKN 1 Duduksampeyan. As part of vocational education, street vendors play a strategic role in preparing vocational school graduates to have technical competence and work ethic according to the needs of the business and industry (BI). This study uses the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected through 18 in-depth interviews, 4 direct observations, and analysis of supporting documents, involving principals, vice principals, supervisors, students, parents, and industry partners. The results of the study show that in general, the implementation of street vendors has met the set standards and has a positive impact on students' work readiness. However, several aspects of input and processes were found that still needed to be improved, especially in the synchronization of the curriculum and the debriefing of participants before the implementation of street vendors. These findings indicate that the street vendor program in the Independent Curriculum has great potential to create adaptive, productive, and competent graduates, noting the importance of continuous improvement in planning and partnership with BI.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relevance of learning Competence-Based Learning in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, namely towards a healthy life and improving welfare for all.  This research uses qualitative methods to explore the application of CBL in health education and its impact on student health behavior. The results show that a competency-based approach can increase students' understanding of health and well-being, and encourage them to take proactive action in maintaining personal and environmental health. The implementation of CBLA is in line with national education policy which emphasizes the importance of competency development as part of efforts to improve the quality of human resources in Indonesia. Thus, CBLA supports the national education goal of creating individuals who are not only academically intelligent but also have practical skills that can be applied in society. Overall, CBLA makes a significant contribution to the development of competencies needed by students and the workforce, as well as supporting the achievement of broader educational goals. With this approach, education can be more relevant and responsive to the needs of society and the world of work today.

Abstract

Debate is basically an exchange of opinions on a subject by giving reasons to defend each other's ideas. In the election context, debates are often related to social, political, and economic issues to gain audience votes. The purpose of this study is to explore what presuppositions were used by Harris in the 2024 U.S. presidential debate. The researcher used a qualitative methodology and presented the results descriptively. The results found that there were 16 existential, 45 factive, 8 lexical, 5 structural, 3 non-factive, and 0 counter-factual presuppositions. Based on these findings, the researcher concludes that Harris, in the debate against Trump, used concrete sentences that contain facts. This shows that Harris influenced the audience using assumptions that could not be directly refuted by the voters.
