Abstract

This research aimed to discover: (1) the teaching styles applied by the English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bone, and (2) the most influential teaching styles toward students’ engagement at SMA Negeri 1 Bone. A qualitative methodology was utilized, with two English teachers and eight students serving as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, audio-video recording, and interviews. They were analyzed using a qualitative approach based on the four-step process outlined by Miles and Huberman: data collection, data display, data condensation, and conclusions drawing/verifying. The results of the research revealed that (1) the English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bone applied three teaching styles, namely expert style, formal authority style, and facilitator style and the dominant teaching styles used by the first teacher were expert and facilitator style while the dominant teaching style used by the second teacher was formal authority style and facilitator style (2) the researcher elaborated students’ engagement into three categories such as behavioral engagement (e.g., participation, attention), emotional engagement (e.g., enthusiasm, mood), and cognitive engagement (e.g., thinking critically, problem-solving). The facilitator style was the most influential teaching style on student engagement, which emphasizes teacher-student interaction. When students are actively involved in the learning process and the teacher employs diverse teaching strategies, students become more interested in learning. Furthermore, the teachers attempted to create an engaging learning environment by incorporating games and humor, which improved student engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Tempo media in critiquing Joko Widodo's government during two terms (2014-2019 and 2019-2024), focusing on the construction of criticism against government policies. The research employs a qualitative method with a literature study approach and interviews. Data collection techniques involve analyzing articles, journals, and official sources from Tempo. The findings indicate that Tempo employs various consistent and structured criticism patterns, with framing that highlights key issues from the "18 major sins" of the Jokowi administration. The discussion reveals that Tempo's reporting serves not only as criticism but also as a tool to influence public opinion and maintain media independence amidst rapidly changing political dynamics. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that Tempo media plays a significant role in shaping critical narratives against the government and contributes to public discourse in Indonesia.

Abstract

Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is a large-scale infrastructure project designed to be one of the largest and most modern stadiums in Indonesia, with a capacity of up to 82,000 spectators. This research analyzes the social conflict caused by the eviction of Kampung Bayam residents for the construction of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) from the perspective of social justice and human rights. This study aims to explore how the eviction not only reflects a violation of the right to housing, but also a denial of the collective rights of the community, including the right to development that affects their lives. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with secondary data from official documents, previous research, and mass media. The results show that the evictions not only resulted in the loss of people's homes and livelihoods, but also violated basic principles of social justice, such as the right to housing and participation in development. This denial of basic rights creates significant socio-economic impacts, including psychological trauma, difficulty accessing public services, and loss of economic stability. This research recommends inclusive and socially just development policies to ensure no group of people is marginalized.

Abstract

The Rohingya refugee crisis is one of the humanitarian issues that has received a lot of public attention. The issue of ethnic violence against the Rohingya has emerged since Myanmar did not recognize them as citizens. This wave of refugees arrived in Indonesia in 2009 and continued in 2023, precisely in Aceh. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of global citizenship in responding to and handling the Rohingya refugee crisis in Indonesia. Not only that, the purpose of this study also aims to describe the challenges faced and the impacts caused by the presence of Rohingya refugees in Indonesia. The method used in this study uses qualitative case study-based methods. This study uses data obtained from reading journals, articles and books that are in accordance with the discussion topics chosen by the researcher. The case study approach is used to make it easier for the author to elaborate and explain what global citizenship is and its role in world-level problems, one of which is the problem of Rohingya refugees. This study proves that global citizenship cannot provide much change for Rohingya refugees. In Indonesia itself, there is no policy that can really help Rohingya refugees, as well as at the world level. With the implementation of a more integrated global citizenship, solutions regarding Human Rights can be realized.
