Abstract

The high rate of unmet need is a demographic phenomenon that constitutes an important aspect to consider in the future development of family planning programs. Unmet need refers to married women who are sexually active but do not use contraceptive methods, despite expressing a desire either to delay childbearing or to stop having children altogether. One of the consequences of unmet need is the increased incidence of unintended pregnancies (UPs). Unintended pregnancies include both mistimed and unwanted pregnancies. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of unmet need for hormonal contraception among female students at the Faculty of Public Health, Muslim University of Indonesia. This research employed an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique used was total sampling, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The findings revealed no significant association between parity and unmet need for hormonal contraception (P-value = 0.541 > α = 0.05), no significant association between contraceptive side effects and unmet need (P-value = 0.061 > α = 0.05), and no significant association between husband support and unmet need (P-value = 1.000 > α = 0.05). There is no significant relationship between parity, side effects, or husband support and the unmet need for hormonal contraception.

Abstract

Human resources are a critical component that every organization must prioritize, as they play a vital role in determining the success of the organization in achieving its goals. This study aims to examine and analyze the influence of teamwork and work discipline on employee performance at RSIA Ananda in Makassar City. A quantitative research approach was employed, with data collected through the use of questionnaires. The population of the study consisted of 317 employees at RSIA Ananda Makassar. Using purposive sampling, a total of 177 respondents were selected as the sample. Data testing included both validity and reliability tests to ensure the quality of the instrument. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, with hypothesis testing conducted through the F-test. The results of the F-test showed that the calculated F value was 228.477, which exceeds the critical F value of 3.05, and the significance level was 0.000, which is below the threshold of 0.05. These findings indicate that teamwork and work discipline have a statistically significant simultaneous effect on employee performance. Moreover, the results demonstrate that both teamwork and work discipline contribute to employee performance at RSIA Ananda Makassar, with work discipline emerging as the dominant influencing factor.

Abstract

Smoking in adolescence has a long-term impact on physical health as well as social and psychological development. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of group counseling services in reducing smoking behavior among SMA Negeri 4 Jeneponto students. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach, involving two groups: the intervention group that received Group Counseling (KKp) services and the control group that received Group Counseling (BKp) services. A total of 40 smoking students were selected through purposive sampling techniques. The instrument in the form of a structured questionnaire that measures the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of smoking, has been tested for validity and reliability. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test, as well as documentation of the counseling process. The normality test showed abnormal data distribution, so the analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results showed significant improvements in student knowledge, attitudes, and actions in the intervention group (p < 0.05), while the control group showed no significant changes. The average post-test scores of the intervention group were higher, and more respondents achieved the “good” category in all three domains. The conclusion of this study is that group counseling is effective in reducing smoking behavior among high school students, especially at SMA Negeri 4 Jeneponto.

Abstract

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a commonly used aesthetic procedure to reduce facial wrinkles, especially in women of reproductive age. Although its physical benefits have been widely recognized, the effect of Botox on the psychological aspects and quality of life of patients still needs to be studied further. This study aims to analyze the impact of Botox use on the patient's skin condition, self-esteem, self-confidence, and quality of life psychologically, socially, and physically. This quantitative study involved 30 respondents selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through a questionnaire measuring the frequency of Botox use, dosage, and using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and WHOQOL-BREF to measure quality of life. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and Pearson correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed a significant reduction in wrinkles and skin problems after Botox treatment (mean from 49% to 34%, p=0.003). There was a significant positive relationship between Botox use and self-esteem (r=0.45, p=0.012), self-confidence (r=0.38, p=0.025), and quality of life (r=0.62, p<0.001). These findings indicate that Botox has a positive effect not only on physical appearance, but also on the psychological aspects and overall quality of life of patients.

Abstract

The implementation of EMR is expected to improve the quality of healthcare services by facilitating faster access to patient data, reducing recording errors, and enhancing coordination among medical personnel. However, various challenges have been identified in practice, which hinder the system’s effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the barriers to EMR implementation in the Outpatient Clinic of Gunung Maria Hospital, Tomohon. A qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews with informants directly involved in the EMR implementation process. The findings reveal that the barriers arise from multiple aspects. From the human resources perspective, additional time and training are needed to enable staff to adapt to the new system. In terms of technological infrastructure, unstable network connectivity and the limited availability of hardware, such as computers and printers in certain service units, hamper the data input process. Regarding software, the existing system does not fully meet the hospital’s operational needs. Procedurally, insufficient dissemination of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) has resulted in some staff not fully understanding the system’s workflow. Furthermore, the evaluation aspect remains problematic due to the absence of a fully functioning monitoring mechanism. External disturbances, such as power outages, have also contributed to service delays by disrupting the electronic documentation process. In conclusion, the EMR implementation at the outpatient clinic still faces various technical and non-technical challenges. Therefore, improvements and strengthening efforts across multiple aspects are required to ensure that the EMR system can operate more effectively and efficiently in supporting the enhancement of healthcare service quality.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a major chronic health issue that requires long-term therapy, one of which is hemodialysis. The success of hemodialysis therapy is highly influenced by patient adherence. However, the adherence rate to scheduled hemodialysis at ODSK Provincial General Hospital, North Sulawesi, is only 71.67%, which is still below the National Quality Indicator standard of 100%. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing adherence among CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at ODSK Provincial General Hospital in North Sulawesi. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The sample consisted of 78 CKD patients who routinely underwent hemodialysis, selected using total sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Chi-square tests and logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess the relationships between variables. The results revealed significant associations between adherence and several factors, including education level (p=0.009), duration of hemodialysis (p=0.004), knowledge (p=0.013), nurse support (p=0.006), and family support (p=0.006). The most influential factors were family support and patient knowledge, with family support emerging as the strongest predictor of adherence among CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Efforts to improve adherence should focus on patient education, strengthening the role of nurses and hospital services, and actively involving family members in the patient care process.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is essential for infant health and development, yet its success is influenced by maternal knowledge and counseling support. This study aimed to analyze differences in breastfeeding among mothers who received counseling and those who did not before and after delivery. A quasi-experimental study with a two-group pre-posttest control group design was conducted at Masyita Maternity Hospital and Kassi-Kassi Primary Health Care Center, Makassar City, from September to December 2023. The population was pregnant women present during the study period, with a total sample of 56 respondents selected using purposive sampling, consisting of 28 in the intervention group and 28 in the control group. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Mann-Whitney Test. The results showed a significant difference in maternal knowledge between the intervention and control groups (p=0.038). However, no significant differences were found in breastfeeding outcomes at the first month (p=0.164) and the second month postpartum (p=0.279). These findings indicate that although counseling improved maternal knowledge, breastfeeding success was achieved in both groups due to their generally good knowledge. Intensive counseling during the third trimester, continued with postnatal support through home visits and information provision up to six months postpartum, is essential to optimize exclusive breastfeeding achievement.

Abstract

Resistant hypertension (RH) is a critical concern due to persistent uncontrolled blood pressure despite multiple medications, and its association with severe cardiovascular and renal complications. This narrative review aims to critically analyze existing research on acupuncture as an adjunctive treatment for RH, synthesizing evidence on its mechanisms and effects on clinical outcomes like blood pressure control and quality of life. A literature search was conducted from April to May 2025 across Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, using variations of keywords combination: resistant hypertension, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, management, antihypertension, blood pressure. We found there is limited evidence for acupuncture application for RH management, even application for hypertension has been widely studied. Acupuncture is safety for hypertension management and has limited adverse event. In conclusion, acupuncture is a promising, generally safe complementary treatment for resistant hypertension, offering benefits beyond blood pressure reduction and improving quality of life, particularly for patients facing medication challenges. However, further rigorous, standardized research is needed to fully establish its role alongside conventional therapies.
