Abstract

Maternal nutritional status plays a crucial role in child health and development, particularly in relation to stunting. This study aimed to describe the biochemical nutritional profile—including total protein, albumin, globulin, and lipid levels—of mothers with stunted children in Bone Bolango Regency. A descriptive design was employed with 26 mother-child pairs (aged 2–4 years) from Ayula Selatan and Dunggala Villages in September 2024. Blood samples were analyzed at the Integrated Health Laboratory of FSTIK UBMG. The mean values of maternal biomarkers were: total protein (4.5 g/dL), albumin (3.0 g/dL), globulin (1.5 g/dL), total cholesterol (202 mg/dL), triglycerides (165 mg/dL), HDL (63 mg/dL), and LDL (106 mg/dL). These findings suggest that suboptimal maternal biochemical nutritional status may contribute to the risk of stunting in children.

Abstract

Electronic Health Records (EHR) are progressively implemented in healthcare systems to enhance efficiency, documentation precision, and patient safety. The influence of EHR implementation on nursing practice varies across different environments. This literature analysis sought to assess the efficacy of electronic health record utilization by nurses in clinical documentation, drawing on primary research published from 2015 to 2025. A total of 12 publications were selected following a stringent screening procedure utilizing the SPIDER framework, including various study designs such as observational, longitudinal, and interventional methodologies. The results indicated that EHR improves documentation efficiency and access to clinical information when systems are optimally designed and supplemented with sufficient training. Poor usability and insufficient user engagement result in heightened burden, stress, and diminished quality of care. The successful deployment is intricately connected to system usability, managerial endorsement, and nurse participation in system development. The results underscore the necessity for user-centered design and ongoing organizational dedication to ensure that EHRs facilitate rather than obstruct nursing care.

Abstract

Side effects are an important factor influencing women's contraceptive choices. Concerns such as menstrual disorders, pelvic cramps, excessive bleeding, and delayed return of fertility after discontinuing contraception can negatively impact contraceptive use. This study aimed to examine the side effects and return of fertility among hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive acceptors in the Kassi Health Center Work Area, Makassar City. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 79 contraceptive acceptors selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using validated questionnaires. Results showed significant associations between menstrual disorders (p=0.029) and changes in body weight (p=0.013) with the type of contraception used. No significant association was found for vaginal discharge (p=0.956), headache/dizziness (p=0.186), and return of fertility (p=0.181) with the contraceptive method. Hormonal contraceptives such as pills were associated with weight gain and headache/dizziness; injections and implants were linked to menstrual disorders, weight changes, vaginal discharge, and headache/dizziness. Non-hormonal contraceptives like IUDs were associated with menstrual disorders and vaginal discharge. These findings highlight the need for personalized contraceptive counseling to consider side effects and fertility expectations in contraceptive decision-making.

Abstract

The increasing incidence of infectious diseases among children highlights the urgent necessity for effective health education programs emphasizing clean and healthy behaviors. This study aims to identify the determinants influencing the effectiveness of health education in preventing infectious diseases in children. A systematic literature review was performed, analyzing 15 peer-reviewed articles retrieved from databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, encompassing publications from 2019 to 2024. The search strategy employed keywords such as "health education," "infectious disease prevention," and "clean and healthy behavior." Inclusion criteria comprised studies focusing on health education interventions, while exclusion criteria omitted non-peer-reviewed articles and studies irrelevant to the subject matter. The findings revealed that interactive teaching approaches substantially improved children’s comprehension and retention of health-related information. Furthermore, robust parental involvement demonstrated a positive association with the enhancement of children’s health behaviors. The review also underscored the significance of culturally sensitive educational materials and well-trained educators in delivering effective health education. In conclusion, addressing these factors is critical to optimizing the effectiveness of health education programs designed to promote clean and healthy behaviors, thereby contributing to the prevention of infectious diseases and improved health outcomes among children.

Abstract

Skin diseases are commonly caused by bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic infections, and allergic reactions. According to data from the International Labour Organization (ILO), 160 workers suffer from occupational diseases. Surveillance studies in the United States have reported that 80% of occupational skin diseases are classified as dermatitis. This study aimed to examine the impact of personal hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on the incidence of dermatitis at the Sandar Angin Public Health Center in Pagar Alam City. An analytic survey method with a cross-sectional design was employed. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 68 patients who visited the Sandar Angin Public Health Center, selected through accidental sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results indicated a significant relationship between personal hygiene (p = 0.035) and the use of personal protective equipment (p = 0.010) with the incidence of dermatitis at the Sandar Angin Public Health Center. It is recommended that the health center implement proper personal hygiene practices, particularly after work-related activities, and ensure the consistent use of personal protective equipment to reduce the risk of dermatitis.

Abstract

This study examines subjective fatigue among urban transportation drivers in Tataaran, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi where the occupation exposes individuals to stressors that can induce fatigue. The research aims to analyze the levels of subjective fatigue and identify contributing factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted from August to November 2024, involving 43 drivers. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire, including the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), to assess socio-demographic, work-related, and vehicle-related factors. The results indicate that increased age, daily work duration, irregular working hours, heavy driving workload, and uncomfortable vehicle ergonomics are significantly associated with higher subjective fatigue levels (p<0.05). Conversely, greater driving experience is significantly associated with lower subjective fatigue (p<0.05), while rest patterns and deposit targets showed no significant relationship with fatigue. In conclusion, urban transportation drivers in Tataaran experience significant subjective fatigue, influenced by a combination of occupational and individual factors.

Abstract

Depression is a common mental illness among older people. Earlier research has proven that poor social support is a major risk indicator for later-life depression. The present research has a goal of analyzing the relationship between support from friends and depressive symptoms among older people living at social institutions. A descriptive correlational design was used with a total sampling method. The population subjected to the research was 44 older people who lived at the Tresna Werdha Social Home Wisma Kartika Yatira. A structured questionnaire to rate support from friends was applied, containing validated items to assess both perceived and provided support. The results indicated that 25 respondents had moderate levels of support from their friends, whereas 19 had poor levels of support from their friends. Regarding depression, 23 respondents had no signs of depression, and 21 had slight signs of depression. There was a statistically significant relationship between support from their friends and depression (r = 0,722, p = 0.000). The evidence indicates that levels of support from their friends are linked with higher levels of depressive signs. From the findings, a proposal is made to adopt the SMB (Sharing Motivation Together) intervention—a peer-based intervention aimed at promoting mutual encouragement, emotional attachment, and activity among older persons at institutional settings.

Abstract

Vaginal discharge is a common reproductive health issue that requires prompt and appropriate management to prevent complications such as pruritus, genital edema, dysuria, and lower abdominal or back pain. This study aimed to examine factors associated with vaginal discharge prevention behavior among injectable hormonal contraceptive users. A cross-sectional analytical design was employed in the Rappokalling Community Health Center area, Makassar, from September to December 2023. A total of 63 respondents met the inclusion criteria and participated in the study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring four key variables: self-motivation, perceived benefits, interpersonal influence, and commitment to action. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software with chi-square tests to identify associations between these variables and preventive behavior. Findings revealed significant associations between prevention behavior and both self-motivation (p = 0.002) and perceived benefits (p = 0.005). While interpersonal influence (p = 0.078) and commitment to action (p = 0.309) were not statistically significant, their potential behavioral influence remained evident. Women with higher self-motivation and perceived benefits tended to adopt better preventive practices. Additionally, those influenced by supportive interpersonal environments demonstrated stronger prevention behaviors, whereas respondents with lower commitment to action showed weaker engagement in preventive measures. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening intrinsic motivation and perceived benefit to enhance vaginal discharge prevention among injectable contraceptive users.
