Abstract

This study investigates the use of the Kamusku application to enhance English vocabulary mastery among eleventh-grade students in the Computer and Network Engineering program at SMK Muhammadiyah 01 Boyolali, Central Java. Employing a qualitative descriptive case study approach, the research focused on the implementation of Kamusku, students’ motivations, challenges encountered, and strategies to overcome them. Data were collected through observation, online questionnaires completed by thirty-two students, and semi-structured interviews with five students and one English teacher using purposive sampling. Triangulation of sources and techniques ensured data validity, while analysis followed the steps of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that students effectively integrated Kamusku into their learning routines at school and home, appreciating its ease of use, quick access to word meanings, offline mode, and practicality compared to conventional dictionaries. Challenges included application errors, limited storage, and offline translation constraints, which students overcame through device management and adaptive strategies. Overall, Kamusku supports independent and adaptive learning, enhancing vocabulary mastery and digital literacy, and offers practical implications for teachers, students, and schools to optimize technology-based English learning.

Abstract

This study investigates teachers’ and students’ perceptions of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in English language learning at SD Negeri 1 Suka Mukti. The primary objective of this research is to explore how both teachers and students perceive the use of ICT in English learning and to identify the benefits and challenges they experience in its implementation. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations, the research examines perceived benefits, challenges, and the overall impact of ICT integration in the primary school context. The findings reveal that both teachers and students hold generally positive attitudes toward ICT. Students report increased motivation and engagement, while teachers highlight ICT’s ability to diversify instructional strategies and support individualized learning. Nevertheless, challenges persist, particularly in regard to limited infrastructure, varying digital literacy levels, and insufficient pedagogical training. These results suggest that effective ICT implementation requires not only technological resources but also teacher capacity-building and supportive institutional policies. Overall, the study underscores ICT’s transformative potential in enhancing English language teaching and learning in Indonesian primary schools.

Abstract

In today’s digital era, emojis are widely used in online communication, yet their role remains debated. whether only as decorative symbols or as linguistic elements that convey meaning and shape interpretation. This study investigates college students’ perceptions, usage, and syntactic patterns of emojis in WhatsApp messages Using a descriptive qualitative method with questionnaires, interviews, and digital material from college students in fourth-semester of English Education students at Universitas Nias, the study finds that college students view emojis as meaningful linguistic elements rather than mere decorations. Emojis are used to supplement, replace, or reverse textual meaning, and syntactic analysis identifies four patterns of emojis with sentence: post-text, co-text, pre-text, and pro-text, demonstrating their influence on sentence structure and interpretation The results contribute to understanding emojis as part of linguistic and digital discourse and highlight their relevance to digital literacy and language education.

Abstract

This research entitled “Determining Students’ Speaking Skill Based on Guessing Game at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 2 Lolofitu Moi” aims to determine students’ speaking skill levels and the factors influencing them through the use of a guessing game. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collected from observation and interviews with students and an English teacher. The results showed that most students were at the basic speaking level, able to produce simple sentences but still made errors in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. The guessing game made learning more interactive and enjoyable, increased students’ confidence, and encouraged active participation. However, challenges such as limited vocabulary and fear of mistakes remained. It can be concluded that guessing games effectively improved students’ motivation and speaking confidence, although further practice is needed to enhance fluency and accuracy.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group counseling using the Keeping Diaries of Events technique in reducing excessive dating app use among adolescents after experiencing a romantic breakup. The research employed a quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. Five participants were selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria. Data were collected using a Likert-scale instrument, diary documentation, and observation sheets. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used as the inferential analysis technique to evaluate differences between pretest and posttest scores. The results showed a significance value of 0.043, indicating a meaningful decrease in excessive dating app use after the intervention. These findings suggest that group counseling combined with diary-based self-monitoring contributes to improved emotional awareness and behavioral regulation among adolescents following breakup-related distress.

Abstract

The use of frameworks in research is important, because with it the research to be carried out gets the right direction and a clear position. However, many studies do not use the framework in their implementation or use it but not in depth. This article aims to analyze the role, relevance, and development of frameworks in the cross-disciplinary scientific literature. The framework is understood as a conceptual foundation that connects theories, methodologies, and findings so as to maintain research coherence. This study uses a literature study design by examining articles from accredited national and international journals. Data were collected through the search of various academic databases and analyzed using a thematic approach to identify patterns of conceptualization, relevance, and forms of adaptation of frameworks in various disciplines. The results of the study show that the framework functions strategically in strengthening theoretical foundations, sharpening the identification of research gaps, and guiding the design of contextual and innovative research models. This study confirms that the development of a framework that is adaptive to social, cultural, and disciplinary contexts is key to maintaining relevance and increasing scientific contribution in the midst of the dynamics of knowledge development.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Simulation-Based Learning (SBL) in improving the TOEFL performance of undergraduate nursing students, a growing need in nursing education due to increasing global competency demands. The research aims to determine the impact of SBL on overall TOEFL scores and its sectional components listening, structure, and reading as well as to compare these outcomes with conventional TOEFL instruction. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed, involving 60 nursing students from the Faculty of Health at Noor Huda Mustofa University. The experimental group received four sessions of SBL-based instruction, while the control group followed traditional TOEFL preparation. TOEFL ITP-style tests were administered as pre- and post-tests to assess performance changes. The results showed significant score improvements in both groups; however, the experimental group achieved substantially higher gains across all components. Paired t-tests confirmed significant within-group improvements, and independent t-tests revealed significant post-test differences favoring the SBL group, with the largest effect size found in the structure component. The findings indicate that SBL creates an engaging, immersive, and cognitively demanding learning environment capable of enhancing academic English proficiency more effectively than conventional methods. This study concludes that SBL is a relevant and effective pedagogical strategy for strengthening TOEFL readiness and supporting global competency development in nursing education.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of students to write argumentative texts that are logical, systematic, and evidence-based. The research aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model based on the Toulmin Argumentation Pattern (TAP) in improving the argumentative writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Padang. The study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 37 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a performance test of argumentative writing and analyzed using normality testing, homogeneity testing, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain calculations. The results showed a significant increase in students’ argumentative writing skills after the implementation of the TAP-based ADI model, with the average score increasing from 59.60 (pretest) to 72.32 (posttest). The paired sample t-test produced a t-value of –18.714 with Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05, while the N-Gain value of 0.31 fell into the medium category. These findings indicate that the TAP-based ADI model is effective in enhancing the argumentative writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Padang.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of full day school, the diverse perspectives surrounding it, and its psychological implications for Generation Alpha in Tuban Regency. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected from teachers, students, and parents across five Islamic elementary schools. The study found that full day school is implemented through a structured combination of academic learning, religious activities, and character development. Its novelty lies in revealing how extended school hours shape the social psychology of Generation Alpha particularly their self-confidence, discipline, responsibility, and patterns of social interaction. While the system offers notable developmental benefits, the research also identifies risks of psychological fatigue and diminished family engagement. The findings contribute to the scientific discourse by providing contextualized insights into how full day school affects the socio-psychological dynamics of a generation growing up in the digital era, emphasizing the need for balanced program design to sustain student well-being.
