PaKMas (Jurnal Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat) juga meliputi kegiatan pengabdian, seperti: bidang ilmu pengetahuan, sosial, ekonomi, kesehatan, budaya, terapan, pengembangan TIK, dan pelayanan administrasi. Serta pelatihan dan peningkatan hasil pendidikan, pertanian, informasi dan komunikasi, pengajaran, pemberdayaan komunitas (komunitas pelajar dan pemuda) dan organisasi masyarakat secara berkelanjutan. Jurnal PaKMas terbit 2 kali setahun pada bulan Mei dan November.

Abstract

Stunting is a significant public health issue in Indonesia, including North Kalimantan. Stunting, which results from chronic malnutrition, affects not only physical growth but also has significant impacts on cognitive development. Stunting prevention is the most important in the first 1000 days from conception until age two. Stunting is not only about poor nutrition or health-related factors such as frequent infection and maternal health but also environmental factors such as improving access to clean water, hygiene, sanitation, socioeconomic factors like income and poverty, education, and cultural practice. This activity aimed to provide a multi-perspective and comprehensive overview of stunting as important information to decrease stunting in toddlers. The method was health education with lectures, discussions, and questions approaches. This activity was followed by all health cadres, mothers or caregivers of stunting babies or children, pregnant women, staff of the village, midwives, and staff from various sectors consisting of 50 people implemented on July 13, 2023, in Bebatu Village, Regency of Tana Tidung on North Kalimantan, Indonesia. This activity was successful marked by the enthusiasm of the participants and the many questions that came in during the questioning session. It is advised that complete health education-related materials be maintained for routine activities annually.

Abstract

Technological advances bring positive and negative currents to the way students and the younger generation learn. Students can search for information and even the answers they need by utilizing technological advances. Unfortunately, the easy access to information received by students through technology without proper filtering or control will give rise to inequality in the younger generation, and negative foreign cultures sometimes affect our character as Indonesians. If bad habits are carried out continuously, they will stick and become bad character. Student character is a very important concern, and it is the homework of teachers and parents to complete it. Character will be the character, character, and behavior shown by the habits they carry out. Habits can grow through the environment in which they are formed, including family, school, and society. This community service has the aim of optimizing youth organizations as an environment for students to learn so that awareness grows in learning while at the same time embedding character values through the environment in which they are formed. Community service activities are carried out by forming study groups and utilizing existing facilities in the living environment, such as village halls, mosques, and parks. It is hoped that good habits in learning will stick with students and will increase awareness of learning.

Abstract

In House Training is one of the institution's communication actions in an effort to increase knowledge and strengthen the ability to act in an activity for the internal public (teachers). Education as an activity needs to receive new input to be able to produce student outcomes that are of quality, intelligence and character. To get these results, guidelines and references are needed that are scientifically and practically accountable, one of which is through curriculum content that is competitive for schools. The Merdeka Curriculum, which is a "pragmatic" curriculum in the sense of combining concepts/theoretical and implementation simultaneously and continuously, is a new method for some teachers in state schools. Therefore, activities are needed to strengthen understanding of the independent curriculum and its implementation for teachers and education staff at SMPN 1 Cisitu Sumedang. In House Training for the Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum was attended by SMPN 1 Cisitu Teachers using a delivery method approach in the form of lectures, discussions and simulations of preparing lesson plans for subjects included in the independent curriculum. As for the results of this Community Service (PPM) activity, participants (teachers and school management) became more knowledgeable and understanding in the practice of an independent curriculum which is strengthened by communication science studies to produce quality students. The conclusion is that the combination of educational science and communication science in the learning process that implements the independent curriculum is very relevant, creative and interactive among teachers and students, especially at SMPN 1 Cisitu Sumedang.

Abstract

Amid the onslaught of technology and social media, vocational school students' interest in reading in Indonesia is still like a fading fire. Lack of access to books, minimal interest in reading, and an undeveloped literacy culture in the school environment are the dominant factors. This condition hampers the learning achievement and critical thinking abilities of vocational school students. The first step is to delve into the reading habits of vocational school students and the factors that influence them. The time has come for the promotion of literacy culture to be launched. Various interesting and interactive activities are packaged to attract the interest of vocational school students. Starting from counseling about the importance of reading, introduction to various types of books, to discussions and reading competitions. This is clear evidence that the socialization of literacy culture is able to revive interest in reading among vocational school students. This research concludes that literacy culture socialization is an effective way to increase vocational school students' interest in reading. Sustainable efforts are needed to instill a culture of literacy in the school environment, involving collaboration between schools, parents and the community.

Abstract

The "Quality Culture" program at Nabilah Batam Islamic High School aims to develop competitive human resources through socialization and interactive discussions with students. The material presented covers the importance of quality culture, strong character development, and strategies to enhance competitiveness. Questionnaire results show increased motivation, self-confidence, understanding of quality culture, and students' readiness to improve competitiveness after participating in this program, with a Respondent Achievement Level (TCR) value of 57.65%. The main driving factors are strong commitment from the school, teacher support, and student enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the challenges include limited resources and diverse student backgrounds. The program produces outputs in the form of quality young people and social activities conducted by students. To enhance program effectiveness, strengthening school leadership commitment, implementing sustainable teacher development programs, and actively involving parents and the community are necessary. With these efforts, the school can build a stronger quality culture, improve education quality, and produce high-achieving and competitive graduates in both academic and non-academic fields. The collaboration between the school, teachers, students, and the community has been crucial in overcoming challenges and ensuring the program's success in preparing students to become competitive human resources and contribute positively to society.

Abstract

SMP YP HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar School is currently conducting face-to-face learning in class. The learning process is carried out by the teacher explaining in front of the class and writing the material given on the board and then the students note it down in a notebook to read again at home. However, not all students want to re-read the notes they have taken at home, but the grades given by the teacher to the students are less than satisfactory. Children now have gone through a health emergency and still like to read using digital information technology. The development of information technology means that information can be conveyed very quickly in all fields, including education. During a global disaster emergency several years ago, information technology was really needed to get the latest information. In the field of education, distance information technology is used to support learning. Education practitioners in Indonesia must learn again to use information technology in applications that are very developed and require the name of the internet. The internet makes it easier for people to get information quickly and affordably. In the field of education, the internet provides global access to information. There are various educational applications in the learning process, one of which is Padlet. The padlet application can be used by SMP YP HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar School to improve the abilities of SMP YP HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar School students in the learning process which interacts between teachers and students over long or near distances.  Therefore, this service is carried out to improve the abilities of SMP YP HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar School students by using the Padlet application.

Abstract

This activity aims to equip UISU Siantar Private Vocational School teachers with knowledge and skills in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to increase learning effectiveness. This activity was carried out over two days with various sessions, including basic AI theory, the use of AI applications in learning, and direct practice in implementing AI in the classroom. The activity focuses on implementing AI workshops to increase vocational school teachers' digital literacy, especially at UISU Siantar Private Vocational School. This program is driven by rapid technological developments and the need to improve the quality of education through the integration of advanced technology, as well as equipping vocational school teachers with knowledge and skills in utilizing AI for various aspects of learning, including curriculum design, student evaluation, and classroom management. The team delivered the activity workshop in 2 ways, face-to-face and virtual, via the Zoom application. A pre-test and post-test were carried out on participants to measure the workshop's effectiveness. The average pre-test score was 60, while the average post-test score increased to 71.9. The analysis results show a significant increase in the level of teacher understanding. This increase indicates that the workshop successfully increased the digital literacy of vocational school teachers so that they are better prepared to integrate AI technology into the learning process at school.

Abstract

Standard clauses in consumer protection are terms or conditions unilaterally determined by business actors. Standard clauses are regulated in Article 18 of the Consumer Protection Act. Understanding standard clauses is essential for consumers and business actors, so legal counseling is needed to increase awareness and understanding for consumers and business actors. The Consumer Protection Act does not prohibit the inclusion of standard clauses in agreement documents between consumers and business actors. The Consumer Protection Act only prohibits the inclusion of standard clauses contrary to Article 18, paragraphs (1) (2) of the Consumer Protection Act. Article 18 paragraph (3) of the Consumer Protection Act determines that the standard clause that contradicts Article 18 paragraph (1), (2) of the Consumer Protection Act is declared null and void. In addition, the legal consequences for business actors for the inclusion of standard clauses that are contrary to Article 18 paragraph (1), (2) of the Consumer Protection Act based on Article 62 paragraph (1) of the Consumer Protection Act are threatened with imprisonment for a maximum of five years or a maximum fine of two billion. In including standard clauses in documents or agreements with consumers, business actors must pay attention to the provisions of Article 18 of the Consumer Protection Act. This legal counseling activity increases the awareness and understanding of consumers and business actors regarding standard clauses based on consumer protection laws, which can ultimately realize consumer protection.

Abstract

The Community Service and Empowerment Lecture Program is designed to achieve multidimensional objectives that benefit students, communities, and universities. For students, the program aims to deepen interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, enhance understanding of the application of science, technology, and art in development, and improve problem-solving abilities through hands-on field experience. The program yielded tangible results, including a 25% increase in community members' understanding of financial management, improved agricultural practices leading to higher crop yields, and the successful establishment of a local cooperative that supports ongoing economic activities in the village. In conclusion, the community service activities effectively contributed to the socio-economic development of Desa Tanjung Saribu. The initiatives empowered the local community with the skills and knowledge necessary to sustain their progress, fostering a more self-reliant and resilient community.

Abstract

State Elementary School 8 Limboto Barat, located in Yosonegoro Village, Limboto Barat Subdistrict, has significant potential for fostering entrepreneurship among its students. The total number of students, 196, necessitates early entrepreneurship education to create job opportunities and independence in the future. One of the essential aspects of this education is entrepreneurship techniques, starting with the brainstorming method. To provide this training, the school invited lecturers from Gorontalo State University. In the initial stage of this training, 70 students were selected by State Elementary School 8 Limboto Barat to participate. The brainstorming method was chosen to help students effectively generate business ideas, understand, and skillfully use brainstorming to develop business concepts. The aim is to shift their mindset from relying on formal employment to becoming independent job creators. The results of the brainstorming training showed that 70 students, divided into 14 groups, achieved scores ranging from a high of 96 to a low of 89. According to the assessment standards, all groups, or 100%, met the criteria for excellence in understanding entrepreneurship concepts and generating innovative business ideas. The conclusion is that this training is effective, as 70 students successfully mastered entrepreneurial brainstorming, which includes understanding entrepreneurship, generating business ideas, selecting several business ideas, choosing one business idea, and skillfully using brainstorming techniques.
