Abstract

Rapid social change and technological developments require global education systems to transform to remain relevant and effective. This study aims to examine how education reform can be realized through adaptive curriculum, utilization of technology, and strengthening the role of teachers. Using a qualitative approach through literature studies and comparative analysis, this study analyzes various models of education reform from several countries, such as Finland, Singapore, South Korea, Estonia, the Netherlands, and Australia. The results show that a competency-based adaptive curriculum provides flexibility in learning, allowing students to develop 21st-century skills, including digital literacy, critical thinking, and adaptability. The integration of technology, such as artificial intelligence and digital platforms, supports personal and collaborative learning, although its implementation is still hampered by infrastructure in many developing countries. In addition, strengthening teacher capacity through continuous training is key to the success of reform, ensuring that teachers are able to adopt technology and innovative teaching methods. This study offers a holistic framework for global education reform, combining technology, flexible policies, and teacher professional development. The novelty of this study lies in the comprehensive approach that does not only focus on one aspect but rather the integration of the three elements to create an education system that is responsive to social and technological change. The practical recommendations produced will support policymakers and educational institutions in implementing sustainable and inclusive reforms.

Abstract

Students may experience digital fatigue as a result of substantial increases in academic workload and heavy reliance on digital technologies for learning. This study aims to analyze the effects of academic workload and digital fatigue on students’ academic achievement. A quantitative approach using survey techniques was used for this study, involving 200 students from the secondary school level. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which was then analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed a negative relationship between students’ academic achievement and workload, indicating that students’ academic achievement decreased in relation to the number of tasks they were asked to complete; this means that the more academic tasks students had to complete, the lower their academic achievement. The main factor that plays a role in this relationship is digital fatigue, which arises from the excessive use of digital devices in the learning process. Digital fatigue results in mental and physical fatigue, thus exacerbating the impact of academic pressure on students’ achievement. Digital fatigue occurs when students are exposed to digital device screens for too long without sufficient breaks. Common symptoms include eye fatigue, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, and increased levels of stress and anxiety. In the long term, this condition can lead to decreased motivation to learn and negatively impact students’ emotional and psychological well-being. Effective strategies to reduce digital fatigue, such as better time management, variety in learning methods, and adequate breaks in academic activities, are needed, and it is important to provide students with balanced academic tasks so that they are not overburdened. Implementing these steps will help students focus on their studies without negatively impacting their emotional or psychological well-being.

Abstract

The lecture method is still the dominant approach in learning in Public Elementary Schools (SDN) in Indonesia, although it has weaknesses in increasing student engagement and developing critical thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of active learning models as an alternative to the dominance of the lecture method and to identify obstacles in its implementation. The method used in this study is a literature study that analyzes various previous studies related to active learning in SDN. The study results indicate that the lecture method was chosen because of time efficiency, limited resources, and lack of teacher understanding of active learning models. However, Cooperative Learning, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and Inquiry-Based Learning have proven more effective in improving student learning outcomes and their analytical and collaborative skills. The main obstacles in implementing active learning include teacher readiness, lack of facilities, cultural resistance from the community, and curriculum policies that are still oriented towards academic values. This study recommends intensive teacher training, improving learning facilities, and changing the paradigm in the education system to support the implementation of active learning in SDN. With the right strategy, active learning models can be applied more widely to improve the quality of basic education in Indonesia.
