Abstract

The digital era has brought fundamental changes to education, shifting the learning paradigm toward more intensive use of technology. The current generation, known as digital natives, has high expectations for the use of technology in the learning process. This requires educators to provide learning media that are innovative, interactive, and relevant to current developments. In Indonesian language learning, strategies are needed that can utilize technology while maintaining the nation's cultural and linguistic values. One medium with great potential is educational podcasts. This research used a qualitative method with a literature study approach. Data were collected through a review of various relevant literature sources, such as scientific journals and articles, to obtain a theoretical foundation. Data analysis was carried out in three stages: orientation to understand the topic in general, reduction to filter important information, and selection to select the most relevant data according to the research focus. The results of the study indicate that educational podcasts are effective as a medium for Indonesian language learning in the digital era. Podcasts provide easy access, improve listening skills, and stimulate student creativity. Their success is greatly influenced by integration with the curriculum, content development tailored to student needs, technological infrastructure support, and teacher training in managing this media. Despite challenges such as differences in student learning styles and varying content quality, solutions can be found through the use of multimedia, curated materials, and teacher competency development. Podcasts have significant potential to strengthen Indonesian language learning while preserving the richness of Indonesia's language and culture in the digital age.

Abstract

The background of this research problem is based on students' mathematical representation ability and mathematical resilience being relatively low. To address this problem, a study was conducted by providing scaffolding in their learning. The purpose of this study was to see the improvement of students' mathematical representation ability based on their resilience with the provision of scaffolding. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental design with two different treatments given to the experimental and control classes. Class VII A became the experimental class, where learning was given treatment using the scaffolding process. Class VII B became the control class, where no treatment was given (regular learning). Students in the experimental and control classes were grouped first based on their mathematical resilience categories. The instruments used were a mathematical representation ability test and a mathematical resilience questionnaire. Data analysis used the Two-Way ANOVA statistical test. Based on the results of the Two-Way ANOVA statistical test, the class factor has a sig of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that H0 is rejected, the mathematical resilience factor has a sig of 0.001 <0.05, meaning that H0 is rejected, and the interaction factor between class and mathematical resilience has a sig of 0.000, which results in H0 being rejected. Based on the results of the research data analysis, there s a difference in the increase in mathematical representation abilities of students who receive scaffolding in their learning compared to those who receive regular learning. When viewed based on the categories of high, medium, and low mathematical resilience, there is a difference in the increase in mathematical representation abilities. Furthermore, there is also an interaction between learning with the scaffolding process and students' mathematical resilience in influencing the increase in students' mathematical representation abilities.

Abstract

Academic pressure experienced by students often triggers stress, which impacts psychological well-being and academic performance. This phenomenon occurs in various countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia, with similar educational systems and social cultures. This study focuses on understanding and comparing how students from the two countries manage stress from academic demands. Using a survey method, a quantitative approach was used by distributing the Brief COPE questionnaire to 100 respondents, consisting of 70 students from Indonesia and 30 from Malaysia. Descriptive statistics and independent t-tests were used to analyze the data to test for significant differences between groups. The analysis showed that although Malaysian students showed a slightly higher average score for coping with stress, the difference was not statistically significant. This similarity in coping patterns suggests the influence of cultural background, spiritual values, and similar educational pressures. The results of this study provide relevant information for lecturers, counselors, researchers, and policymakers in designing long-term psychological interventions, stress management training programs, and higher education institution policies that support students' psychological health. Thus, this study also enriches the literature on cross-cultural coping strategies and opens up opportunities for developing higher education approaches more responsive to students' psychosocial challenges in the Southeast Asian region.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and describe students’ perceptions of the use of the VOKI application in English speaking activities. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method to gain a comprehensive understanding of learners’ experiences. The participants consisted of 33 students from grade XII at SMKN 1 Bandar Masilam, North Sumatra. Data collection involved two instruments: a questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale and semi-structured interviews with 10 selected students for in-depth insights. These instruments were designed to measure various dimensions, including students’ opinions on the usefulness, ease of use, and impact of VOKI on their speaking skills. The collected data were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing as suggested by Miles and Huberman. Findings revealed that students showed a generally positive perception toward the use of VOKI in their learning process. Most students highlighted four key benefits: the application’s effectiveness in improving pronunciation, its engaging nature, accessibility across devices, and its support for collaboration in speaking activities. Furthermore, the use of avatars and animated characters in VOKI made the learning process more enjoyable, reduced anxiety during speaking practice, and increased students’ confidence to speak English. These results suggest that integrating digital tools like VOKI can significantly enhance students’ motivation and participation in speaking activities, making it a valuable alternative to conventional classroom strategies. Overall, VOKI proved to be an interactive, accessible, and student-centered medium that supports the development of speaking proficiency in a creative and engaging manner.

Abstract

The development of basic sleeve patterns is an important part of the basic skills of the Fashion Design subject, especially in making clothes that fit the size and shape of the body. However, in practice, most students still consider this material difficult because it requires a good understanding of measurement techniques, calculations, and pattern construction. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of implementing the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) cooperative learning model as a strategic effort to improve students' understanding of the material on the development of basic sleeve patterns. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, implemented in two cycles. The subjects were 21 grade X Fashion Design students at SMKS Setia Budi Binjai. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation in the form of photos of student activities and work results. The results showed that applying the STAD model can improve student learning outcomes. The percentage of student learning completion increased from 76.19% in cycle I to 85.71% in cycle II. In addition to the increase in grades, this study also noted improvements in student activity, collaboration between students, and responsibility in completing group assignments. Based on these findings, the STAD learning model effectively improves students' understanding of the material on developing basic arm patterns and forming positive attitudes in learning.

Abstract

Many students as English foreign language learners failed in learning to speak English. They must have a strong willingness and mentality to speak smoothly and fluently. English teachers have a high demanded to produce an appropriate method in teaching speaking for their students in the classroom. Speaking will become easier and more effective if an appropriate method is based on students’ ability and era. This study focused on teaching speaking through Quizizz. The research problems were (1) To what extent is the attainment of teaching speaking through Quizizz? (2) To what extent is the effect of using Quizizz in teaching speaking? This study was experimental. It consisted of two groups among 40 students, which were divided into 20 students as the experimental group and 20 as the control group. This study used speaking tests in Quizizz and hypothesis testing. Based on the results, the results showed that pre-test scores in the experimental group had the lowest score was 33 and the highest was 69, while in the post-test, they obtained the lowest score of 57 and the highest was 84. Besides, in the control group, the lowest score was 31 and the highest score was 49, while in the post-test, the lowest score was 43 and the highest score was 65. The Mean scores obtained by the experimental group in pre-test and post-test were 47.8 and 67, with a standard deviation of 8.71 and 7.394. The mean score obtained by the control group in the pre-test and post-test was 6.629 and 5.244. Thus, the T-test was higher than the T-table, which meant teaching speaking through Quizizz could increase students’ speaking ability. The hypothesis was accepted, and the null hypothesis was rejected.

Abstract

Virus material in high school biology often causes learning difficulties due to its abstract nature and difficulty in visualizing. This condition results in low student conceptual mastery and high potential for misconceptions. This study aims to map the pattern of student learning difficulties in the virtual material and the factors that cause it. Descriptive research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Tondano in April 2025, involving 21 grade X-1 students selected using a simple random technique. Data were collected through observation, written tests (15 multiple-choice questions and 5 essays), and questionnaires on difficulty factors covering aspects of self, family, school, and society. The test instrument was tested for validity with point-biserial correlation and reliability, KR-20, resulting in a coefficient of 0.63, indicating sufficient reliability. The results of the study showed that the average student conceptual mastery only reached 31.14, far below the Minimum Completion Criteria (70). The memory aspect (C1) was higher (34.19%) than the understanding aspect (C2) (26.45%), indicating the dominance of memorisation. A total of 47.61% of students were in the high difficulty category, while 23.8% were in the very high difficulty category. The dominant external factors came from the school environment (88%), particularly limited visual media and laboratory facilities, followed by family support (83.2%), while community influence was lower (52.2%). Internal factors such as student interest, motivation, and attention also contributed significantly. In conclusion, students' learning difficulties in viruses were dominated by weak conceptual understanding and limited learning resources. Innovative learning strategies based on visualization, interactive technology media, concept maps, and virtual laboratories are needed. Practical implications: Biology teachers need to design more contextual and visual learning experiences, utilize technology, and provide space for exploratory activities to strengthen student understanding.

Abstract

Student dropout is a persistent challenge in the digital era of higher education. Using the chi-square test, this study examines whether two digital academic indicators—Grade Point Average (GPA) and attendance—are associated with dropout risk. We analyzed SIAKAD records for 100 Information Systems students at Bina Sarana Informatika University (cohorts 2020–2022), categorizing GPA (<2.75 vs. ?2.75) and attendance (<80% vs. ?80%). Results show a significant association between GPA and dropout (?² = 21.54, p < 0.001) and between attendance and dropout (?² = 29.85, p < 0.001). Students with low GPA and low attendance formed the highest-risk group (75% dropout), while high GPA and high attendance corresponded to the lowest risk (5%). These findings translate into simple, replicable rules for early detection and timely intervention: students below the GPA and attendance thresholds should trigger counseling, remedial support, or study-load adjustments. The contribution of this study is practical and immediate. Unlike approaches that rely on complex predictive models, a basic chi-square framework applied to routinely collected SIAKAD data yields actionable risk profiles that institutions can adopt with minimal technical overhead.

Abstract

Writing is one of the most complex skills in English. The skill in organizing ideas into a paragraph or essay, and the skill of arranging grammatical sentences are also required. Nowadays, many teachers have implemented some media, techniques, and approaches to increase students’ motivation in writing classes. In the EFL classroom, teachers can also integrate writing with students’ cultural identity. This study investigates students’ perceptions of a digital narrative writing project based on local wisdom in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. The writer applied a quantitative survey approach in this study, and the data were collected from participants who engaged in project-based digital narrative writing activities that combined local wisdom themes. The findings showed that students remarked on the digital narrative writing experience positively through four categories: affective (enjoyment and motivation), cognitive (learning benefits), cultural identity relevance, and technological usability. Students reported being more engaged, writing better stories, and feeling more connected to their culture. Even though some students had technical problems, most of them found the digital narrative writing project meaningful, creative, and useful for learning. The results show that the digital narrative writing project can improve students’ use of different media and support learning that connects to their culture in EFL classes. This has important meaning for how teachers design lessons, build digital skills, and include local culture in the curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of supervision and principal leadership on the performance of elementary school teachers in Ilir Timur II District. The research employs a quantitative design, utilizing a survey method. The instrument, a questionnaire, has been tested for validity and reliability. The research population consists of all elementary school teachers in Ilir Timur II District, using a total sampling. Data are analyzed with multiple linear regression. The results indicate that supervision has a significant impact on teacher performance (? = 0.421; t = 4.32; p < 0.05). Principal leadership also significantly affects teacher performance (? = 0.367; t = 3.95; Sig. < 0.05). Together, supervision and principal leadership account for R² = 0.52, or 52%, of teacher performance. The remaining 48% is influenced by other factors. The novelty of this research lies in focusing on both supervision and principal leadership together in Ilir Timur II, a topic rarely studied integratively at the elementary level. This finding reinforces that a combination of systematic supervision strategies and effective leadership styles can be key to improving teacher performance in urban areas.
