Abstract

This study examines the widespread phenomenon of online gambling among adolescents, including in rural areas, which has created quite complex social problems. This study aimed to describe the level of adolescent involvement in online gambling, its impact on social behavior, and family and community efforts to prevent it in Kotasan Village, Galang District. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with primary informants (village officials and community leaders), key informants (adolescent online gamblers), and supporting informants (peers and community members). Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that adolescent involvement in online gambling in Kotasan Village, Galang District, is relatively high, especially among those who have dropped out of school or are unemployed. They generally access online slot and lottery applications via smartphones, often playing in coffee shops or areas with free Wi-Fi, with the most significant influence coming from peer encouragement and easy access to technology. The impacts are evident in changes in social behavior (becoming withdrawn, lying, neglecting responsibilities), family conflicts due to misuse of money, decreased school performance or work motivation, and psychological problems such as stress and mild depression. Preventive efforts undertaken by families, community leaders, and religious institutions are still limited to advice, reprimands, or spiritual activities. However, they fail to address the root of the problem and are inconsistent. These findings confirm that online gambling poses a serious threat to adolescent development and social order, necessitating a more comprehensive prevention strategy through synergy between families, communities, religious leaders, and village governments, focusing on supervision, digital literacy, and the provision of productive activities.

Abstract

This study investigates how economics students use context clues and digital strategies to enhance vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The research aims to identify students’ inference patterns, compare success rates across different types of clues, and analyse the relationship between contextual inference skills and overall comprehension. Using a quantitative descriptive design, data were collected from 85 randomly selected undergraduate economics students who completed ESP reading and vocabulary tasks through both printed and digital formats. Results indicate that students achieved the highest success with definition clues (72.4%) and contrast clues (68.9%), while example clues were the most challenging (47.2%). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between the utilisation of context clues and reading comprehension (r = 0.78, p < 0.01). Regression analysis further confirmed that definition and contrast clues were the strongest predictors of comprehension performance. Findings suggest that combining explicit instruction in context clue recognition with digital scaffolding—such as pop-up glossaries and annotation tools—can significantly improve ESP reading outcomes. These strategies help learners engage actively with specialised economic texts, enhance inferencing accuracy, and foster independent vocabulary learning. The study concludes that integrating digital literacy with traditional reading strategies is essential for developing effective ESP pedagogy in the digital era, supporting both linguistic and professional competencies of economics students.

Abstract

The entrepreneurial interest of Fashion Design Vocational High School students remains relatively low, despite being equipped with technical skills and entrepreneurial theory. This study aims to analyse the influence of Industrial Fashion Making and Entrepreneurship subjects on the entrepreneurial interest of grade XI Fashion Design students at Pangeran Antasari Vocational High School. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational survey design, involving all 35 grade XI Fashion Design students as the total sample. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analysed using classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-tests, and F-tests. The results showed that the Industrial Fashion Making subject had a significant effect on entrepreneurial interest (p = 0.034 < 0.05), as did the Entrepreneurship subject (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables had a positive and significant effect on students' entrepreneurial interest (F = 16.633, p < .05). The combination of technical sewing skills and entrepreneurial knowledge has been shown to increase students' self-confidence, creativity, and readiness to start independent businesses in the fashion industry. Research confirms that integrating productive learning and entrepreneurship effectively fosters an entrepreneurial mindset. Therefore, vocational curricula are recommended to incorporate project-based learning, product exhibitions, and business simulations to strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit and reduce the unemployment rate among vocational school graduates.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using the Perplexity application media based on artificial intelligence (AI) on the ability to write news texts of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 37 Medan. The study population included all seventh-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 255 people, and was divided into eight classes. From this population, a sample of 31 students from class VII-H was taken through a random sampling technique. The research method used was a one-group pretest-posttest design, with the data collection instrument in the form of a news text writing assignment test. The results of the analysis showed that the average pretest score of students before using the Perplexity AI application was 45.16, while the average posttest score after using the application increased to 65.32. The normality test using the Lilliefors method produced an L-count value of 0.120 for the pretest and 0.116 for the posttest, while the L-table at a significance level of 0.05 was 0.159. Thus, both data sets were normally distributed. The homogeneity test shows Fcount = 0.67 and Ftable = 1.84, so the data is declared homogeneous because Fcount <Ftable. Furthermore, the t-test results show tcount of 4.87 with ttable at a significance level of 0.05 of 1.67. Because tcount> ttable (4.87> 1.67), the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on these results, the use of the AI-based Perplexity application media has a positive and effective effect in improving the news text writing skills of class VII students of SMP Negeri 37 Medan in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

This study aims to develop integrative and interactive Android-based teaching materials on statistics, explicitly focusing on measures of central tendency and measures of data dispersion for eighth-grade students. This research was conducted using a research and development approach, adopting a 4D development model that comprises four stages: defining (Define), designing (Design), developing (Develop), and disseminating (Disseminate). In this study, the subjects included experts in the field of teaching materials and development, two practitioners, and six eighth-grade students from MTs Mambaul Ulum Pakis, who served as users. The final product is the Q-Stat learning application, which contains statistical materials based on the Merdeka Curriculum and is integrated with the values of the Qur'an and Hadith. This application features materials, practice questions, quizzes, and evaluations. The product was developed using Microsoft PowerPoint and iSpring Suite, then converted to run offline on Android devices. Validation results show that the developed application received a positive response. Material experts gave an average score of 4 (valid category), while teaching material development experts gave a score of 3.5. Practitioners gave an average score of 3.7, and students gave an average score of 3.5 (practical category). Based on these results, the Q-Stat application is considered valid and valuable. It can be effectively used in eighth-grade mathematics learning activities to support the understanding of statistical concepts in an integrative and interactive manner.

Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherlessness, or the lack of paternal involvement in parenting, is a social issue that is increasingly receiving attention in Indonesia, yet remains poorly understood. This study aims to determine the percentage of Lambung Mangkurat University students' perceptions of the fatherlessness phenomenon that is prevalent on social media, by examining three perceptual factors: attention, interpretation, and knowledge. The method used was descriptive quantitative through a survey of students from the 2021-2024 intake. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. The instrument used was an online questionnaire that was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Data collection commenced with the preparation and pilot testing of the questionnaire, followed by validity and reliability tests, and then its online distribution via Google Forms. The results showed that 64% of respondents had a perception percentage influenced by the attention factor regarding fatherlessness, 60% by the interpretation factor regarding fatherlessness, and 45% by the knowledge factor regarding fatherlessness.In conclusion, the survey revealed that students have a high level of awareness regarding the importance of fathers' roles. They recognize that the absence or suboptimal role of fathers can have negative impacts, such as low self-esteem, difficulty managing emotions, and a tendency toward juvenile delinquency. This study recommends integrating fatherlessness into guidance and counseling education and developing preventive programs for adolescents, such as group guidance, classroom sessions, and school activities that involve collaboration between parents, especially fathers, and their children.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model with Nearpod media on the drama writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMK Telkom 1 Medan in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research was motivated by students' low drama writing skills, which are caused by a lack of varied learning methods and minimal use of interactive media. The research method employed was quantitative, with an experimental approach using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population included all 205 eleventh-grade students, while the sample consisted of 36 students selected as the experimental group. Data were collected through drama writing ability tests before and after the treatment, then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and t-tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students' drama writing skills after implementing the PjBL model with Nearpod. The average pretest score was 65.83, with a standard deviation of 10.03, and increased to 81.38, with a standard deviation of 8.70, in the posttest. The hypothesis test shows that the calculated t-value is greater than the t-table value (0.7300 > 0.6669), so it is concluded that the implementation of the PjBL model assisted by Nearpod has a significant effect on students' drama text writing skills. This model has been proven effective in enhancing creativity, collaboration, and student engagement during the learning process. Therefore, the combination of PjBL and Nearpod is recommended as an innovative learning strategy to improve students' writing competencies at the vocational education level.

Abstract

This study examines media coverage of actor Baim Wong's divorce lawsuit against Paula Verhoeven, which attracted widespread public attention after Baim publicly revealed Paula's alleged infidelity. Drawing on Robert N. Entman's framing theory and Jürgen Habermas's concept of the public sphere, this study examines how Indonesian online media framed the issue and its implications for public discourse. In Habermas's idealized conception of the public sphere, the media function as facilitators of rational and inclusive discussion; however, the research findings indicate that contemporary reporting practices are often driven by media agendas, audience appeal, and moral orientations that influence how events are interpreted. The analysis reveals differences between two major media outlets: Okezone.com tends to legitimize Baim Wong's actions by emphasizing narratives of moral justification and sympathy. At the same time, Detik.com adopts a more critical stance by questioning the ethics of disclosing personal conflicts in the public sphere and highlighting the diverse responses of netizens.Nevertheless, both media outlets prioritize sensationalism and emotional engagement over rational deliberation. These framing practices demonstrate a shift toward entertainment-based journalism that undermines the media's democratic function in fostering critical discussion. This study concludes that Indonesian media need to strengthen reporting ethics, accuracy, and respect for privacy to improve the quality of public discourse and maintain social harmony in the digital era.

Abstract

This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method to analyze the role of the principal's personality competency as a role model for teacher behavior in improving school quality. As an educational leader, the principal is required to possess five core competencies: personality, managerial, entrepreneurial, supervisory, and social competencies. Among these five competencies, personality competency plays a crucial role because it encompasses noble character, integrity, openness, self-control, and leadership interests and talents. This competency serves as the foundation for creating a positive, harmonious, and conducive school environment for all members of the school community. This research was conducted at Ibnu Halim Integrated Islamic Junior High School, Medan Deli, through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that principals who possess and consistently apply personality competency are able to serve as role models, mentors, and sources of inspiration and motivation for teachers. The impact is seen in the teachers' increased work ethic, discipline, and sense of responsibility in carrying out their duties. However, several obstacles remain, such as differences in perception, lack of professionalism, and resistance to change. To overcome these challenges, the principal implemented strategies such as shared perceptions, effective communication, instilling commitment, religious and community activities, providing rewards and sanctions, and participating in training. Thus, the principal's personality competency contributes significantly to shaping teachers' professional behavior and improving the quality of education in schools. The conclusions drawn from the research conducted indicate that principals with strong personality competency can create a school climate that not only focuses on academics but also fosters strong character development and professional synergy among educators.

Abstract

Pendidikan nasional berfungsi sebagai pemelihara nilai-nilai di dalam masyarakat agar terus dapat dilestarikan. Pendidikan karakter merupakan filter bagi hal negatif dalam globalisasi. Untuk menanamkan nlai-nilai pendidikan karakter, tentu tidak cukup hanya sekadar diberikan hafalan atau nilai ujian yang memenuhi standar kelulusan, namun secara keseluruhan haruslah terintegrasi antara kognitif, afektif dan psikomotorik. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengkaji peningkatan karakter siswa kelas 3 SDN 054872 KW.Begumit  melalui fabel Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan . Fabel merupakan cerita binatang yang diajarkan di SD kelas 3. Fabel berisi berbagai nilai yang dapat diajarkan kepada siswa. Banyak nilai pembelajaran yang dapat dieksplorasi dalam fabel yang selanjutnya dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif dalam mengedukasi siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menunjukkan apa saja nilai pendidikan karakter yang dapat diambil dalam fable dan mendeskripsikan bagaimana pembentukan karakter siswa kelas 3 SDN 054871 KW. Begumit melalui Pendidikan kewarganegaraan fabel. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penelitian kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai karakter di dalam fabel yang dapat menjadi suri tauldan untuk siswa Sekolah Dasar Negeri 091320 diantaranya: sikap jujur, sikap tanggung jawab juga sikap rasa ingin menolong dan pembentukkan karakter siswa SDN 054871 KW. Begumit melalui fabel pendidikan kewarganegaraan dilakukan dengan pendekatan buku-buku, komunikasi yang baik, serta implementasi yaitu dengan mengajak siswa berpartisipasi untuk tampil dan guru mengajak siswa untuk mengaplikasikan apa yang mereka dapat dari cerita-cerita fabel yang telah mereka pelajari bersama
