Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital marketplaces has introduced the buy now pay later (BNPL) system, enabling consumers to obtain goods through deferred payment schemes. Despite enhancing financial accessibility, this model raises significant legal concerns within Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah), particularly regarding the elements of riba (usury) and gharar (excessive uncertainty). This study aims to analyze the contractual structure of modern paylater transactions and to reconstruct a Shariah-compliant model grounded in the objectives of Islamic law (maqasid al-shariah). Employing a normative-doctrinal legal approach, this research relies on classical fiqh sources, contemporary Islamic finance literature, and relevant academic studies. The findings indicate that conventional paylater schemes resemble a loan contract generating time-based increment, thereby potentially constituting riba nasi’ah, and may involve gharar due to non-transparent cost structures and cumulative penalties. A Shariah-based reconstruction can be achieved by transforming the structure into a bai’ bi tsaman ajil contract with a fixed price agreed upon at inception, eliminating time-based interest and progressive penalties, and ensuring full contractual transparency. The maqasid framework, particularly the protection of wealth (hifz al-mal) and justice (‘adl), provides a normative foundation for designing ethical deferred payment systems in the digital economy.

Abstract

Non-profit organizations are highly dependent on the sustainability of volunteer engagement, making volunteer job satisfaction a key factor in maintaining the effectiveness and sustainability of the organization. This study aims to analyze the influence of organizational culture, communication, and transformational leadership on volunteer job satisfaction in non-profit organizations. The research population includes all volunteers working in non-profit institutions, such as social foundations and non-governmental organizations in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, with an unknown population size. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling with a total of 148 volunteers as respondents. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method, where data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that organizational culture and communication had a positive and significant effect on volunteer job satisfaction. Transformational leadership was also found to have a positive and significant effect, and had the most dominant influence compared to other variables. These findings confirm that transformational leadership plays a strategic role in increasing volunteer job satisfaction in non-profit organizations. The contribution of this study lies in strengthening empirical research on human resource management in the non-profit sector, particularly in the context of volunteers, as well as providing practical implications for non-profit organization managers to develop transformational leadership, a supportive organizational culture, and effective communication.

Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of entrepreneurial orientation, digital marketing orientation, and innovation orientation on competitive advantage and marketing performance in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Central Java, Indonesia. Using the SEM-PLS method, data were collected from MSME owners who have adopted digital marketing. The results show that entrepreneurial orientation and digital marketing orientation enhance competitive advantage, which in turn positively impacts marketing performance. However, innovation orientation, although positively contributing to competitive advantage, does not have a significant direct effect on marketing performance. Competitive advantage plays an important role as a mediator between strategic orientation and marketing performance. These findings enrich the strategic management literature by clarifying the still inconsistent role of innovation orientation in MSME performance. Practically, this study recommends that MSME owners and policymakers prioritize entrepreneurial activities and digital strategies to enhance competitiveness and marketing success in a dynamic business environment.

Abstract

There is still no empirical study that integrates the meaningfulness of work as a mediating mechanism between the work environment (physical and social) and seafarers' job satisfaction, considering differences in ship levels as an important factor. This study aims to comprehensively examine the dynamics of Indonesian seafarers' job satisfaction by considering the role of the physical environment, social environment, and meaningfulness of work in the national shipping industry. This study uses a quantitative cross-sectional design. The data collection method is based on a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using AMOS 25. The results show strong empirical support for all proposed hypotheses. The effect of the Physical Environment on Meaningfulness in Work shows a path coefficient of 0.724 with a critical ratio of 8.967. Furthermore, the effect of Meaningfulness in Work on Job Satisfaction shows the highest coefficient of 0.795 with a critical ratio of 9.423. Testing the mediation effect through the Sobel test shows a Z value of 7.234 and 6.891 with a significance of p < 0.001. These findings support the Existence-Relatedness-Growth (ERG) framework, which emphasizes the importance of fulfilling basic needs, social needs, and growth needs in creating job satisfaction. It concludes that shipping companies must develop a comprehensive strategic approach to managing employee experience by integrating physical environment optimization, social environment enhancement, and meaningfulness cultivation as three mutually reinforcing pillars

Abstract

This study examines how Vespa ownership functions as a form of identity work within the workplace. Moving beyond utilitarian perspectives, the research conceptualizes Vespa as a symbolic artifact through which employees construct, negotiate, and perform professional identity. Using a qualitative design and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), in-depth interviews were conducted with eight Vespa-owning professionals in Pontianak, Indonesia. The findings reveal that Vespa ownership operates across four interrelated dimensions: as a symbol of achievement and aesthetic distinction; as a medium of professional self-presentation; as a catalyst for social connectedness within organizational settings; and as an extension of professional identity. The study demonstrates that material possessions can mediate the relationship between personal authenticity and organizational culture, contributing to both individual meaning making and workplace cohesion. By situating symbolic consumption within organizational life, this research extends theories of the extended self and identity work, offering new insights into how lifestyle symbols shape professional self-construction in contemporary workplaces.
