Abstract

Muhammadiyah University (PTM), as an educational institution with a distinct ideological mission, frequently admits non-Muslim students. This phenomenon theoretically creates a quo-vadis scenario, and the primary objective of the university is to instill the ideology of association in students. However, there is an interest for Muhammadiyah to emphasize its position as a moderate organization that upholds religious tolerance. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the experiences of non-Muslim students at Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta, particularly in terms of religious tolerance. This study used a qualitative with a phenomenological method. In-depth interviews were conducted with 7 non-Muslim students who had completed studies at Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta. Subsequently, data were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results showed that non-Muslim students experienced tolerance when studying. Based on the report, initial concerns were unproven, as students felt comfortable with differences, worshiped according to beliefs, and were free from discrimination. Moreover, Muhammadiyah University provided a platform for interfaith dialogue, facilitating a shift from mere tolerance theology to active engagement. The results showed the significant role of Muhammadiyah University in fostering tolerance education for non-Muslim students.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the Islamic finance industry has not always been accompanied by adequate Islamic economic literacy among society, creating a gap between institutional development and ethical economic awareness. Education therefore, plays a strategic role in strengthening value-based economic understanding grounded in Islamic principles. This study aims to analyze how education contributes to the development of Islamic economic literacy and how such literacy shapes ethical economic awareness that supports inclusive development. This research adopts an interpretivist–constructivist paradigm using a qualitative multi-site design conducted in three Islamic-based educational institutions implementing Islamic economics in their curriculum. Data were collected from eighteen participants, consisting of educators, students, and curriculum managers through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using a constructivist thematic approach to explore the process of value internalization within pedagogical interactions. The findings reveal a sequential pathway in which value-based pedagogical interaction fosters multidimensional Islamic economic literacy encompassing cognitive, affective, and normative dimensions. This literacy subsequently develops ethical economic awareness characterized by moral reasoning, critical evaluation of interest-based financial practices, and a commitment to justice-oriented economic behavior. Furthermore, ethical awareness encourages an inclusive economic orientation reflected in support for cooperative models, profit-sharing practices, and community-based economic initiatives. The study proposes a conceptual framework linking educational meaning-making processes, Islamic economic literacy, ethical consciousness, and inclusive development. These findings highlight the importance of dialogical, reflective, and context-based learning approaches in Islamic economic education to move beyond informational teaching toward value-driven learning that promotes socially responsible economic behavior.

Abstract

Character and responsibility education in elementary school students still faces various challenges, such as low discipline, a lack of awareness of worship, and weak responsibility for academic and social tasks. This condition shows that character formation is not enough only through cognitive teaching, but requires real examples from educators, especially teachers, as moral leaders in schools. Based on these conditions, ISMUBA (Al-Islam, Muhammadiyahan, and Arabic) teachers have a strategic role in instilling the character of responsibility through leadership examples. This study aims to describe the form of leadership role model of ISMUBA teachers, the character of student responsibility, and the role of exemplary leadership of ISMUBA teachers in shaping the character of student responsibility at SD Muhammadiyah. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the subjects of school principals, ISMUBA teachers, and students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with data validity tests through triangulation. The results of the study show that the leadership example of ISMUBA teachers is realized through discipline, consistency in the implementation of worship, habituation of responsibility attitudes, and educational social interaction. The character of student responsibility is reflected in compliance with school rules, awareness in carrying out worship, and responsibility for academic and social tasks.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology and information has created challenges in the educational world, particularly in the weakening of spiritual and moral dimensions in learning. Educational success is often measured primarily through cognitive achievement, while character and spiritual awareness receive less attention. This condition also affects Islamic education, which ideally integrates intellectual, moral, and spiritual development. In this context, the spiritual teachings contained in the book Al-Ḥikam by Ibn ‘Aṭā’illāh al-Iskandarī offer important insights regarding the value of sincerity (ikhlāṣ) as the inner foundation of human actions and spiritual growth. This study aims to analyze the value of sincerity in the spiritual teachings of Al-Ḥikam and to explore how this value can be internalized within the perspective of Sufism and Islamic education. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis to examine the meanings contained in selected aphorisms of Al-Ḥikam. The primary data source is the text of Al-Ḥikam, supported by secondary literature related to Sufism and Islamic education. Data were analyzed through stages of data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and triangulation to ensure the validity of findings. The results show that the value of sincerity in Al-Ḥikam, particularly in wisdoms 1, 9, and 10, emphasizes that the true value of deeds lies in the purity of intention rather than their outward form. Sincerity functions as the center of the spiritual journey, the foundation of moral formation and self-development, and the awareness of God's presence. Furthermore, the internalization of sincerity in Islamic education can be implemented through role modeling (uswah), habituation of positive actions, reflective practices (muhasabah), and strengthening intentions in learning.

Abstract

Strengthening Islamic educational identity at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level is an important necessity amid the challenges of globalization that can affect the religious character of students. One strategy that is considered effective is through the implementation of Islamic school culture, which is manifested in daily religious practices. This study aims to analyze the strengthening of Islamic educational identity through Islamic school culture with an emphasis on the implementation of daily religious practices in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical research type conducted at MI Ma'arif NU Islam Fitriah Lumajang. Data were obtained through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies, then analyzed using an interactive analysis model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that Islamic school culture functions as a value system integrated into religious routines, moral habits, teacher role models, and institutional policies. The implementation of Islamic educational values takes place through three main strategies, namely daily worship habits, educator role models, and the integration of Islamic values into learning.  Daily religious practices not only shape worship awareness, but also foster religious attitudes, discipline, responsibility, and politeness among students. Thus, Islamic school culture acts as a mechanism for the systematic and continuous internalization of values in strengthening the identity of Islamic education at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.

Abstract

The development of digital communication technology has brought significant changes to contemporary da'wah practices, particularly through the use of social media, which has become the main space for interaction for Generation Z. This condition opens up wider opportunities for young female preachers to convey Islamic messages through various digital platforms. However, the rise of viral culture on social media also presents challenges in maintaining the authenticity of religious messages while adapting them to the ever-evolving dynamics of digital culture. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the communication strategies used by Generation Z female preachers in responding to viral culture on social media without compromising the authenticity of Islamic preaching messages. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis methods on seven preaching contents published by Dinda Ibrahim through the Instagram platform. Data were collected through documentation techniques on digital content and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis model, which includes the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show three main strategies for digital da'wah, namely the internalization of moral values through contextual narratives and dialogic communication, the development of digital authenticity and credibility through consistency of values and emotional closeness with the audience, and the use of visual aesthetics as a language of da'wah through the use of humor, cosplay, and curated visual packaging. These findings indicate that the integration of moral narratives, authentic communication, and visual aesthetics keeps digital da'wah relevant and effective for Generation Z audiences.

Abstract

Strengthening religious moderation in basic education is a strategic need amid the increasing phenomenon of religious intolerance and exclusivism in the younger generation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of religious moderation education through the Religious Sleman Program at SD Negeri Model Ngemplak and assess its effectiveness in developing students' religiosity. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data was obtained through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving school principals, interfaith teachers, students, and religious education supervisors. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn, with validity tests through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The results of the study show that the implementation of religious moderation is carried out through the integration of values in learning, daily religious habits, strengthening inclusive school culture, and interfaith collaboration. The program is effective in shaping students' religiosity that is not only ritualistic, but also reflects a tolerant, empathetic, and respectful attitude toward diversity. The obstacles found include the limited understanding of some teachers about the concept of moderation and the lack of optimal continuous evaluation system. This study concludes that religious moderation education in primary schools plays a significant role in building the religious-moderate character of students and requires strengthening the capacity of educators and sustainable policy support.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the transformational leadership of the madrasah principal on the performance of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers at MTs. Transformational leadership is a leadership model that emphasizes the leader’s ability to inspire, motivate, and foster positive change among organizational members. In the context of educational institutions, the leadership of the madrasah principal plays an important role in improving teacher performance, which in turn affects the quality of the learning process. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population of this study comprised all teachers at MTs, and the sample was drawn using purposive sampling, focusing on teachers directly involved in teaching Islamic Religious Education. Data were collected through questionnaires developed based on indicators of transformational leadership and teacher performance. The collected data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis to determine the effect of the madrasah principal’s transformational leadership on the performance of PAI teachers. The results of the study indicate that the transformational leadership of the madrasah principal has a positive and significant effect on the performance of PAI teachers at MTs Muna Falih Sleman. This finding shows that the better the implementation of transformational leadership by the principal, the higher the teacher performance in carrying out their professional duties, including planning, implementing, and evaluating the learning process. Therefore, strengthening the transformational leadership of madrasah principals is an important strategy to improve teacher performance and the overall quality of education in madrasah.
