Abstract

The goal of education is to develop students' abilities. These abilities are expected to grow and develop in accordance with the values prevailing in society and the nation's culture. The approach related to scientific and social issues is known as the socioscientific approach. In general, this approach provides a way for students to learn about scientific research through case development, which can be implemented through classroom discussions and problem-based learning. The method applied in this article is the  review literature Study (SLR). This approach is generally used to review articles and publish the results of the review in new articles. The procedures used in this technique include formulating the topic to be researched, establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria or a screening process. If necessary, these elements are found and then analyzed. The results of the analysis are organized based on what has been read. Articles to be analyzed will be obtained by searching the Publish Or Perish application for databases from Google Scholar and Crossref, searching for research literature that aligns with the keywords: socioscientific issues in science learning. The SLR method allows researchers to systematically review and identify journals where each process follows predetermined steps. The inclusion criteria used were articles from 2023-2026, research topics covering socioscientific issues in science learning. Exclusion criteria were research articles that cannot be accessed completely, are not full text, non-science, non-junior high school, and all those in languages other than English and Indonesian. The literature stages are based on using Research Questions to make the discussion more focused and to make it easier for researchers in the review literature process. Socioscientific issues (Socioscientific Issues) are issues that describe social problems in society within a conceptual, procedural, or technological context of science. The use of socioscientific issues in science learning can encourage students to actively engage in dialogue, discussion, and debate, which can provide opportunities for them to evaluate their understanding and improve their mastery of concepts related to the material they have learned. Currently, one of the topics being discussed is environmental challenges, namely climate change and rising global temperatures. Global temperature rise is a phenomenon that can be studied and addressed with the help of science.

Abstract

The election of regional heads constitutes a fundamental mechanism for the realization of popular sovereignty and the implementation of decentralization at the local level. Since the post-reform era, the direct election of regional leaders by citizens has been widely regarded as a significant achievement in strengthening local democracy in Indonesia. Nevertheless, the re-emergence of discourse advocating the election of regional heads by Regional People’s Representative Councils (DPRD) has sparked intense debate, particularly from constitutional law and contemporary democratic theory perspectives. This article aims to critically examine the election of regional heads by DPRD by assessing its compatibility with constitutional principles and analyzing its implications within the framework of democratic backsliding. The research employs normative legal methods, utilizing statutory, conceptual, and comparative approaches. The findings indicate that although the election of regional heads by DPRD may formally satisfy procedural democratic requirements, such a mechanism carries a substantial risk of weakening substantive democracy. This is evidenced by the reduction of direct public participation, the increasing influence of political elites and oligarchic structures, and the shift of accountability from the electorate to local legislative bodies. Furthermore, this mechanism is considered inconsistent with the spirit of Article 18 paragraph (4) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which emphasizes the democratic election of regional leaders. Therefore, any alteration to the regional head election system must be approached with caution to ensure that it does not become a vehicle for democratic regression, but rather contributes to the enhancement of legitimacy, public participation, and the overall quality of local democracy.

Abstract

Freedom of the press constitutes one of the essential pillars of a democratic state governed by the rule of law, as it plays a crucial role in social oversight, information dissemination, the formation of public opinion, and political education of citizens. A free and responsible press is therefore a fundamental prerequisite for the realization of transparent and accountable governance. Nevertheless, press freedom cannot be interpreted as an absolute or unlimited right. Within constitutional practice, such freedom remains subject to legal restrictions intended to safeguard the public interest, maintain social order, and ensure respect for the rights and reputations of individuals. In Indonesia, guarantees of press freedom are specifically regulated under Law Number 40 of 1999 on the Press, which affirms the principles of press independence, media autonomy, and dispute resolution mechanisms through the right of reply and the role of the Press Council. However, rapid developments in information and communication technology have expanded journalistic activities into the digital sphere, causing press products to intersect with Law Number 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions, as amended. This situation has given rise to a dual regulatory framework that frequently generates legal debate, particularly when journalistic works are alleged to violate criminal provisions under the EIT Law. The application of the EIT Law to press activities potentially creates normative conflicts and raises concerns regarding the criminalization of journalism, which may undermine freedom of expression. Accordingly, this article aims to examine the limits of press freedom within the framework of a democratic rule-of-law state and to analyze the relationship, distinctions, and potential normative conflicts between the Press Law and the EIT Law. This analysis is expected to offer an academic contribution toward formulating a model of press freedom regulation that is proportional, equitable, and consistent with democratic principles and the protection of human rights.

Abstract

The rapid development of the Financial Technology (FinTech) industry has significantly transformed the delivery of financial services, including the execution of contracts in electronic form. Digital contracts offer greater efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for the public. However, these practices also present complex legal challenges, particularly regarding consumer protection and the obligations of the parties involved. Many digital contracts still rely on standardized, one-sided clauses that may disadvantage consumers, while FinTech providers often limit their legal liability. Existing regulations, such as Law No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law) and Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection (UUPK), provide a normative legal framework to ensure the validity of digital contracts and safeguard consumer rights. Nevertheless, implementation in practice faces obstacles, including issues with verifying electronic signatures, clarity of contractual clauses, and the effectiveness of dispute resolution mechanisms. This study employs a normative juridical approach to analyze disputes in FinTech digital contracts in Indonesia, emphasizing the need for balance between the rights and obligations of all parties. The findings suggest a necessity for regulatory harmonization, improved legal and digital literacy among consumers, and the development of adaptive dispute resolution mechanisms, including faster and more efficient online dispute resolution alternatives. These efforts are expected to enhance legal certainty, foster consumer trust, and reduce the risk of disputes in the continually evolving FinTech landscape.

Abstract

Pursuing higher education is a challenging journey that requires students to be active, independent, and capable of critical and creative thinking. This study aims to examine the influence of self-esteem on students’ mental toughness. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 73 university students in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that self-esteem has a significant positive relationship with mental toughness (r = 0.699, p < .001), indicating a strong correlation. Furthermore, self-esteem significantly predicts mental toughness, accounting for 48.9% of the variance (R² = .489). These findings suggest that higher levels of self-esteem are associated with higher mental toughness. This study highlights the importance of self-esteem as a key psychological factor in enhancing students’ resilience in academic contexts

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the role of the Job Characteristic Model on employees’ Psychological Well-Being at a private university in Bali. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed in this study. The participants consisted of 48 employees selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected through a survey method using the Motivating Potential Score developed by Hackman and Oldham to measure job characteristics and the Psychological Well-Being Scale developed by Ryff to assess psychological well-being. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results indicated that the Job Characteristic Model had a significant effect on employees’ Psychological Well-Being, with a significance value of p < 0.05 and a coefficient of determination of 0.210. These findings suggest that job characteristics accounted for 21% of the variance in employees’ psychological well-being, while the remaining variance was influenced by other factors beyond the scope of this study. Higher levels of job characteristic fulfillment are associated with higher levels of psychological well-being among employees. This study extends the application of the Job Characteristic Model within the higher education context in Indonesia and highlights the importance of job design as a key determinant of employees’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

The teaching of local history in high schools plays a crucial role in shaping students’ cultural identity and historical awareness of their region. However, the availability of adequate local history textbooks, particularly in South Kalimantan, remains very limited, making it necessary to develop systematic, high-quality textbooks. The research aims to design a Local History textbook for Senior High Schools in South Kalimantan using a descriptive-analytical approach. The design incorporates national book evaluation criteria, book writing models, and textbook writing theories from experts. The results of this textbook design include two main components: the fundamental component, which covers aspects of content, presentation, language, graphics, and safety, and the complementary component, which includes the use of color, glossary, index, and appropriate font sizes. The textbook content is designed for grades X to XII, focusing on the Local History of South Kalimantan. It is structured to help students understand historical concepts through various elements such as concept maps, learning objectives, materials, summaries, and comprehension questions. This textbook is expected to be an effective learning resource for high school students in South Kalimantan.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of women in science fiction cinema through the character of Neytiri in the Avatarfilm series, with a particular focus on the integration of feminine and masculine attributes in public, domestic, and relational roles. While science fiction films have traditionally emphasized masculine dominance and positioned female characters within symbolic or subordinate roles, this research explores how Avatar offers a more complex construction of female agency. Using a qualitative approach with film text analysis, the study analyzes key scenes, dialogues, and visual representations of Neytiri across Avatar (2009), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), and Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025). The analysis is informed by gender performativity theory and feminist film studies to identify how feminine and masculine attributes are constructed and integrated within narrative contexts. The findings indicate that Neytiri is consistently represented as an active subject of moral, strategic, and physical authority, while simultaneously performing maternal roles, family protection, and social leadership. Feminine attributes such as empathy, emotional expressiveness, and relational care coexist with masculine attributes including strategic leadership, decisiveness, and defensive violence, without hierarchical dominance. The longitudinal analysis reveals a significant character development, particularly in Fire and Ash, where maternal grief transforms into strategic and political action. This integration challenges binary gender constructions and highlights gender as performative, fluid, and context-dependent. The study contributes to gender and film studies by proposing feminine–masculine integration as an analytical framework and by demonstrating the relevance of cinematic representations to contemporary social contexts, particularly in relation to women’s roles and leadership

Abstract

The enactment of the new Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) represents a significant milestone in the reform of national criminal law, particularly in addressing sexual offenses. This reform is not only reflected in the expansion of offense definitions and the recalibration of criminal sanctions, but also in the formal recognition of restorative justice approaches and the strengthening of victim-centered protection mechanisms. This article aims to examine the extent to which restorative justice principles are incorporated within the new Criminal Code and to assess their implications for the fulfillment of victims’ rights in cases of sexual crimes. The study employs a normative legal research method, utilizing statutory and conceptual approaches through an analysis of the new Criminal Code, the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes, as well as relevant legal literature and national academic journals. The findings indicate that, at the normative level, the new Criminal Code provides legal space for the application of restorative justice as an alternative mechanism for resolving criminal cases, including certain categories of sexual offenses. Nevertheless, the implementation of this approach continues to face substantial challenges, particularly the risk of victim marginalization, power imbalances between offenders and victims, and the inadequacy of restitution and recovery mechanisms. Consequently, more explicit regulatory frameworks, clear implementation guidelines, and a stronger victim-oriented perspective are required to ensure that restorative justice practices do not undermine substantive justice or the protection of victims’ fundamental rights in sexual crime cases

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy in rural areas remains a complex health and social issue in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Low reproductive health literacy, poverty, and conservative cultural norms contribute to the high pregnancy rate in the 15–19 age group. This study aims to review various factors influencing teenage pregnancy in rural areas and identify innovative community-based preventive interventions that have been implemented. This research is part of a scoping study framework using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach guided by PRISMA 2020. The literature search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus databases using a combination of keywords in Indonesian and English. Of the 143 articles identified, 12 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using the thematic analysis approach of Braun and Clarke (2006). The results of the study indicate that the involvement of families, community leaders, and educational institutions plays a crucial role in increasing adolescent reproductive awareness. Participatory community-based interventions based on local values are considered more effective than top-down approaches. A collaborative, cross-sectoral approach is a promising strategy for reducing teenage pregnancy rates in rural areas.
