Abstract

The Papua conflict remains unresolved and is one of Indonesia's enduring challenges. Special autonomy and development efforts by the government in the region have not succeeded in fostering peace. This study aims to explore the causes of the Papua conflict and provide insights into conflict intervention strategies using the Structural, Accelerator, and Trigger (SAT) Model. This qualitative research as defined by Sugiyono utilized secondary data analysis to gain comprehensive understanding of the conflict intervention design for Papua based on implications of Structural, Accelerator, and Trigger (SAT) Factors. Data was gathered from various sources including books, journals, government documents, and media articles related to the dynamics of the Papua conflict. The study found that by applying the Structural, Accelerator, and Trigger (SAT) Model, the underlying causes of the conflict can be delineated, paving the way for intervention strategies based on these causes. Structural causes such as trust issues with the government, economic inequality, and divergent interests need interventions such as trust building, sustainable economic policies, and negotiation. Accelerator causes such as mass media require interventions such as strengthening media ethics, while conflict triggers such as violence necessitate law enforcement through judicial measures to achieve sustainable peace in Papua.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the values of local wisdom in the mentifact culture of the Cirebon Ethnic saying "ingsun titip tajug lan fakir miskin". The research used a qualitative method.  Data were collected or extracted using open interview techniques, documentation studies and direct observation of Cirebon cultural heritage sites. Informants include, Cirebon cultural figures, education figures and Cirebon community leaders. The data validation uses triangulation techniques. Triangulation is an approach taken by researchers to explore and perform qualitative data processing techniques. The research resulted in the conclusion that; the expression petatah petitih Cirebon contains local wisdom values; (1) the value of faith and devotion to God Almighty; (2) social values and togetherness, (3) the value of responsibility, and (4) the value of mutual cooperation. These values can be used as learning materials and resources through an ethnopedagogical approach in elementary schools. Recommendations that the expression of petatah petitih 'ingsun titip tajug lan fakir miskin' can be implemented into culture-based learning in the Cirebon ethnic community as an effort to preserve local culture.

Abstract

This research explores an empiricist approach in the context of border defense in the North Natuna Sea, an area rich in strategic natural resources that requires intensive protection to maintain Indonesia's national and economic security. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with a focus on the analysis of literature studies that include scientific publications, government reports, and policy documents related to the use of field data in the context of defense. The results of this study show that an empirical approach is the main foundation in the formation of Indonesian policies related to the North Natuna Sea, supported by learning from previous conflict experiences such as the cases of Sipadan and Ligitan Islands. By leveraging strong field evidence, Indonesia ensures that every step taken is based on accurate and verified data. This approach not only enhances Indonesia's legal legitimacy in safeguarding its territorial sovereignty, but also provides a solid foundation for maintaining regional stability and national security in strategic areas such as North Natuna.

Abstract

Ukraine is one of the former Soviet Union states that gained independence in 1991. Ukraine's long history is inextricably linked with conflict, particularly following the Bolshevik invasion of 1921-1922. Under Soviet rule, the Ukrainian people endured considerable suffering across social, economic, and political spheres. One of the darkest chapters in Ukraine's history is the Holodomor. This event ultimately catalysed the Ukrainian independence movement. The Holodomor also engendered an anti-Soviet (Russian) sentiment, as it was regarded as an act of genocide against ethnic Ukrainians. Anti-Russian campaigns intensified following Ukraine's independence and manifested in the Ukrainization movement. However, this movement inadvertently fostered inter-ethnic tensions among Ukrainian citizens, particularly those of Russian ethnicity. The research employs a traditional literature review methodology, involving qualitative data collection and analysis. The conclusion that whilst the Ukrainian Nationalist Movement indeed has implications for political tensions between ethnic Ukrainians and Russians, this is largely attributable to the Ukrainian government's failure to accommodate the aspirations of national minority groups, such as ethnic Russians, in policy-making processes

Abstract

Zimbabwe needs to transform its curriculum to one that meets local and global relevance. Against this background, this paper's primary concern was to understand the link between the curriculum framework (2015-2022) and some of the recommendations advanced by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Education (1999). A systematic review approach guided the analysis and discussion of the source data. This analysis counts on key bibliographic databases: Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar through a huge quantity of research papers. This qualitative content analysis was conducted to conceptualize the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Education report’s recommendations on high school education, as the pillar of the curriculum framework (2015-2022). In addition, continuous assessment was discussed as a pedagogical issue in the context of the curriculum framework (2015-2022). It can be concluded that the existing link between the Presidential Commission on Education and Training recommendations and the curriculum framework (2015-2022) has created the basis for the inclusion of continuous assessment in learning activities in high schools. Based on the conclusions the researchers recommended the need to employ multi-modalities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the new approach in learning activities in high schools.

Abstract

Subak represents a distinctive agricultural culture in Bali, functioning as an indigenous community organization with significant socio-agrarian and cultural implications. The inclusion of Subak within the Jatiluwih World Cultural Heritage Area, recognized by UNESCO as a valuable intangible heritage, underscores its importance. However, the rapid expansion of tourism and service industries has raised concerns about land conversion, potentially jeopardizing agricultural productivity through the development of villas, homestays, and restaurants. The study employs qualitative research methods to systematically document and observe field information and phenomena. While Subak's role is deemed partially effective compared to non-designated counterparts, land conversion persists due to various factors including internal motivations, external environmental conditions, and regulatory frameworks governing land use. Enhancing integration is crucial, involving the design of additional regulations to fortify the eco-cultural tourism system and foster collaboration between agricultural and tourism sectors. There is a pressing need to increase support for Subak, encompassing both moral and material assistance.

Abstract

This study explores the representation of toxic masculinity in the film ”Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap”, as exemplified by the character Mr. Domu, the patriarch of a Batak family. His behavior mirrors the patriarchal structure embedded within his family dynamics. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing John Fiske’s semiotic analysis, which is structured into three levels: the Level of Reality (focusing on behavior and expression), the Level of Representation (analyzing camera shots and lighting), and the Level of Ideology (uncovering underlying ideological messages). Data was gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. Through semiotic analysis, the study reveals both verbal and non-verbal signs, such as the characters' behaviors, expressions, and dialogues within the film. Toxic masculinity in Mr. Domu manifests in various ways, including his stubbornness, insistence on appearing strong, authoritarian attitude, refusal to be contradicted, and obsession with achieving high social status to earn respect. He also enforces emotional suppression, such as prohibiting expressions of sadness or crying, especially in front of his family. These behaviors are indicative of the harmful aspects of masculinity that are often misinterpreted, misused, and imposed upon others. Moreover, the film highlights an ideology of individualism, which tends to disregard the needs and desires of others.

Abstract

Historically, the Djuanda Declaration has been a significant achievement in Indonesia's maritime diplomacy, securing the territorial waters and sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. The Geneva Conventions and participation in the International Maritime Organization require a country to ensure safety and security within its waters, a task assigned to the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI), which evolved from the Indonesian Maritime Security Coordination Agency (Bakorkamla) as Indonesia's Coast Guard. The complex security threats and the vast maritime territory of Indonesia present significant challenges. A maritime security strategy is expected to minimize and address these issues. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The results indicate that many cases occurred in 2023 based on official reports from the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency. According to the strategy theory of means, ways, and ends, two conclusions can be drawn regarding internal institutional strengthening: First, improving the understanding and application of Indonesia's maritime geopolitics. Second, reorganizing maritime security and law enforcement agencies based on Pancasila values. Furthermore, collaboration among cooperating parties can yield three levels of communication. For external institutional strengthening, maritime diplomacy can be pursued to maintain cooperative relationships and training with international Coast Guards.

Abstract

Originating from the redefinition of the Human Security approach as an alternative in mapping threats from individuals to social systems, such as climate change, a consciousness has emerged regarding the importance of climate balance for survival. This has also made it a global priority to focus attention on these issues. The objective of this research is to examine the dynamics of establishing China's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Policy as an implementation of the Paris Agreement commitment and the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol. The Two-Level Games theory introduced by Robert Putnam serves as the primary theoretical framework for this study. The research findings indicate that to achieve a win-set for CDM at the international level, strengthening diplomatic relations with the European Union is crucial, as a replacement for the leadership vacuum in the environmental regime following the United States' withdrawal. At the domestic level, the CDM win-set emphasizes the importance of support from coalitions and state institutions to provide a foundation for success. Ultimately, it becomes imperative to maximize the diplomatic process not only at the international level but also encompassing the domestic level, thereby enabling the comprehensive realization of "China's 2060 Net-Zero Goal".

Abstract

This research analyzes the use of ballistic rockets by militant groups Hamas, Hezbollah and Taliban in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Through a literature review, this research examines the technical specifications of the rockets, their efficiency of use, and their economic and psychological impact on Israel. The findings show significant variations in the range and destructive capacity of rockets, as well as their effectiveness in asymmetric warfare strategies. The economic impact on Israel includes high costs for defense systems such as Iron Dome, damage to infrastructure, and disruption of economic activity. The research also discusses implications for the defense industry and the international arms trade. In conclusion, a comprehensive approach involving dialogue, economic development, and social reconciliation is needed to address the conflict, as well as further research in defense economics to develop more effective strategies.
