Abstract

This study aims to analyze how social sciences can inform social policies that align with the principles of Islamic teachings, with a focus on Islamic studies. Using a qualitative approach with a literature review method, this research examines various relevant literature on the integration of social sciences, such as sociology and anthropology, with Islamic values. The analysis focuses on social theories that can be adapted to the context of social policy in the Islamic world, as well as how Islamic principles, such as justice, equality, and the welfare of the ummah, can be applied to create more inclusive and sustainable policies. The results of the study indicate that social sciences offer a strong analytical framework for understanding social dynamics in Muslim societies, as well as providing practical insights for formulating policies that integrate Islamic values in addressing contemporary challenges. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for policymakers to design more adaptive social solutions that align with the principles of Islamic teachings.

Abstract

In the digital era, students face rapid changes in various fields, ranging from technological advancements to global culture, which often clash with Islamic values. This paper explains how the Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association (IPNU) and the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM)—the two largest Islamic student organizations in Indonesia—respond to the challenges of the 21st century. Using qualitative methods and a multiple case study design, the research collected data through interviews, document reviews, and literature studies. The data were then analyzed using a cross-case analysis method to compare the strategies employed by IPNU and IPM. The aim is to provide updated insights into the existence of Islamic student organizations in empowering youth amidst the dynamics of 21st-century modernization. The findings reveal that Nahdlatul Ulama, with its "Islam Nusantara" philosophy, and Muhammadiyah, with its "Progressive Islam" philosophy, offer distinct contributions to Indonesian Muslims by maintaining Islamic identity while addressing the threats of pop culture in the face of globalization and remaining responsive to technological advancements. The Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah student organizations empower their members by developing programs and activities tailored to the challenges they face, such as regular Islamic studies, technology training, and cultural counter-movements. With their unique characteristics and established empowerment patterns, these organizations, whose members are spread throughout Indonesia, can serve as role models for other Islamic communities in facilitating students and youth to grow into future leaders.

Abstract

The rapid development of the Islamic digital economy has raised significant ethical challenges, particularly in maintaining the integrity of Sharia-based business practices amid technological disruption and globalization. However, existing studies remain limited to discussions on Islamic finance ethics, social finance integration, and digital technology implementation, without offering a holistic ethical framework rooted in Sufi values. The study aims to develop an integrative model that embeds Sufi ethics—such as sincerity (ikhlas), asceticism (Zuhud), and excellence (Ihsan)—within the Islamic digital economy through the framework of Aqidah (faith), Sharia (law), and Akhlaq (ethics). Using a qualitative approach with literature review, the researchers identify the strategic role of Sufi ethics in fostering sustainability, justice, and blessings within digital business practices. The findings reveal that the integration of Sufi ethics strengthens the ethical foundations of Islamic digital enterprises, offering practical solutions to moral dilemmas in the era of digital transformation. This study contributes a novel framework for establishing a spiritually grounded, competitive, and socially impactful Islamic digital economy.

Abstract

Social media in the flow of information technology development and globalization has an impact on human life, such as the rise of hoaxes, hate speech, and other things with SARA nuances. In overcoming intolerance, religious leaders, influencers, YouTubers, celebrities, and TikTokers play an active role in campaigning for religious moderation on social media as a strengthening of religious beliefs. The purpose of the research is to analyze forms of strengthening religious moderation on social media from 2018 to 2024. The reason is that since 2018, religious moderation has become a priority program of the government under the Ministry of Religion, so it is included in the RPJMN. This research is a literature study with historical methods, first Heuristic (Source Collection), primary sources in the form of social media Facebook (Gudurian Network), TikTok (@kemenag_ri & @arugiano), Instagram (@husein_hadar, @saidaqilsiroj53, and @gusmiftah), and YouTube (Deddy Corbuzier). Secondary sources are obtained from books, scientific articles, proceedings, and records that are relevant to the research. Second, Source Criticism. Third, Interpretation. Fourth, Historiography. The study results show that the form of strengthening religious moderation uses social media means, in the form of dialogue posts between religious leaders, quotes on religious texts, Peace, humanity, love, and tolerance, as well as quotes from moderate figures such as Gus Dur. As for its benefits, it can create a harmonious attitude between religious communities in the public space, increase inclusivity and tolerance, both in the virtual world and in the real world, and prevent conflicts and exclusive attitudes.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the practice of artisanal mining of Kalimaya stone in Lebak Regency through the tafsir ‘ilmi approach, which is a method of interpreting the Qur'an that integrates the text of revelation with contemporary scientific reality. This topic is essential considering that artisanal mining often takes place without an ethical or sustainability framework, and lacks a touch of religious values, even though the majority of Indonesian people are Muslim. The research uses an explorative qualitative method with an interdisciplinary approach, which combines thematic analysis of kauniyy?t verses, geological data on Kalimaya stone, and in-depth interviews with miners and local community leaders. The results show that tafsir ‘ilmi can form an Islamic-based ecological ethics framework that is applicable in mining practices. Through the reconciliation between the principles of tawhid, khilafah, amanah, and 'ad?lah, this research creates an Islamic Geoethics framework as an alternative ethical paradigm in mineral resource management. These findings not only enrich contemporary interpretive discourse but also offer practical contributions in the form of mining governance based on spiritual, social, and ecological sustainability values.

Abstract

The word “yad” in the Qur'an contains the essential meaning (hand) and the meaning of majaz (power, degree, benevolence, and many other meanings of majaz). From the true meaning (hand), some interpret the palm and some interpret it with the fingertips to the shoulders. In the Qur'an, Allah conveys the word “yad” with muqoyyad (restricted) and sometimes with mutlaq (showing the meaning of the essence without being restricted). The word “yad” which is muqoyyad can be understood immediately, but the word absolute yad will give rise to multiple interpretations from the Mujtahids in producing fiqh laws. This study leads to the word “yad” in the verses of mutlaq, especially the chapter on Tayamum and the law of cutting off hands for thieves. The method used in writing this journal is a qualitative method with steps to prioritize literature studies commonly called library research. This study aims to find out the manhaj/formulation of the Mujtahids in producing the law and its postulates as well as the differences in the law produced by the approach of the theory of mutlaq muqoyyad. It is hoped that this research can add insight into the verses of the Qur'an that are mutlaq and muqoyyad, maintain the procedures of Mujtahid in producing fiqh laws from verses that are mutlaq and add to the scientific treasures by knowing the khilafiyyah / differences of scholars in the problem of fiqh branches.

Abstract

Knowledge serves as the fundamental pillar of civilizational advancement, including within the Islamic tradition, which possesses a distinctive and comprehensive epistemological framework. Islamic epistemology perceives knowledge not merely as the product of reason and empirical observation, but also as a spiritual process grounded in divine revelation, particularly the Qur'an. Through a genitivus subjectivus approach, Islam is positioned as the starting point of intellectual inquiry, framing the pursuit of knowledge as both a form of worship and a religious obligation. During its golden age, Islamic civilization successfully cultivated a holistic intellectual tradition that harmoniously integrated religion, philosophy, and science. Muslim scholars not only preserved the legacy of earlier knowledge but also made significant original contributions across diverse fields. However, the dynamism of Islamic intellectual life later declined due to various internal and external factors. In recent times, there has been a renewed effort to revitalize the Islamic scholarly tradition in ways that are ethically grounded and relevant to contemporary challenges. This study aims to explore the concept of Islamic epistemology, the sources and methodologies of knowledge in Islam, and the historical evolution of Islamic intellectual movements from the classical era to the present day. Such an understanding is essential for shaping an ethical, integrative, and contextually relevant development of Islamic knowledge in the global era.

Abstract

This study examines the narrative of exemplary women in the Qur’an with the aim of uncovering the moral and spiritual messages embedded in the stories of female figures and their contribution to character education among Muslims. A qualitative approach using library research and intertextual analysis was employed to synthesize findings from various literatures, including classical and contemporary studies. The results reveal that figures such as Maryam, the wife of Pharaoh, the mother of Musa, the Queen of Sheba, the “barren” women, Zulaikha, and the wives of Nuh and Luth, consistently embody values of obedience to Allah, courage, and the inner transformation that is fundamental to faith. Maryam stands out as a symbol of purity and spiritual strength, capable of receiving divine revelation directly, while the wife of Pharaoh demonstrates a personal choice to reject tyranny despite being in a repressive environment. The story of the mother of Musa illustrates sacrifice and fortitude in facing life's trials, whereas the Queen of Sheba provides an example of transformation from worldly power to profound obedience. Furthermore, the narrative of the “barren” women teaches that biological limitations do not hinder Allah's gift in creating life, and the story of Zulaikha reveals the dangers of desire as well as the potential for repentance as a path to spiritual restoration. These findings affirm that the Qur’an provides a comprehensive framework of values, emphasizing the importance of equal rights and responsibilities in building a just and dignified society.

Abstract

This research rigorously reexamines Amin Abdullah's integrative-interconnected epistemology to provide a pedagogical framework suitable for modern Islamic education. Although Abdullah's framework has profoundly impacted the reformation of Islamic epistemology in Indonesian higher education, its practical application at the pedagogical level is still lacking development. This research utilizes a qualitative library research approach and theme analysis to integrate primary and secondary materials systematically, therefore connecting epistemological Theory with classroom practice. Research indicates that although epistemological integration has influenced institutional curriculum, it has not been implemented in instructional design, learning methodologies, and evaluation models in Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI). This research presents a context-sensitive educational paradigm grounded on Abdullah's transdisciplinary, dialogical, and ethical principles. The paradigm prioritizes thematic-integrative learning, critical analysis of religious texts, and the cultivation of social and moral literacy within the classroom environment. This work enhances the debate on Islamic educational reform by converting epistemological notions into instructional practice, contributing both theoretically and practically. The suggested method not only improves educational significance but also establishes Islamic education as a transformational entity by 21st-century requirements.

Abstract

Hadith plays an important role in Islamic teachings as an explanation of the Qur'an and a source of Islamic law. However, Ahmad Subhi Mansur's thinking rejects the authority of hadith and asserts that the Qur'an is the only source of Islamic law. Mansur, an academic from Al-Azhar University, developed the idea of ??Quranism which rejects hadith as a valid source of Islamic teachings. He argued that the Qur'an has covered all aspects of human life and does not require additional explanation from hadith. By referring to various verses of the Qur'an, Mansur reinterprets the concept of "rasul" as referring to revelation, not the figure of the Prophet Muhammad personally. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach to analyze Mansur's thinking. Some of the arguments used to reject the authority of hadith include the claim that the Qur'an is perfect, does not require additional laws, and the prohibition of following anything other than the Qur'an. Mansur's thinking has caused controversy and is contrary to the views of the majority of scholars who accept hadith as an integral part of Islamic teachings. This study aims to understand the basis of Ahmad Subhi Mansur's thinking, his method of interpretation, and the implications of his ideas for the study of hadith and Islamic law.
