Abstract

Study purpose. Crescent kick performance is essential in pencak silat, yet limited evidence exists on how speed, flexibility, and leg muscle explosive power interact to determine this skill among young athletes, particularly given the suboptimal achievement in Kabupaten Pelalawan at the POPDA competition. This research examines the direct and indirect influences of these three biomotor components on crescent kick proficiency among young athletes aged 14-17 years in Pangkalan Kerinci District. Materials and methods. A quantitative approach with path analysis design was employed. The study population comprised 44 young pencak silat athletes aged 14 - 17 years in Pangkalan Kerinci District using saturated sampling. Data collection utilized a 30 meter sprint test, front split test, standing long jump test, and 10 second repetitive kicking test. Data analysis used Jamovi version 2.6.44. Results. Speed directly influenced crescent kick ability (0.657; p<0.001). Flexibility also demonstrated a direct effect (0.281; p<0.001). Leg muscle explosive power showed a direct effect (0.332; p<0.001). Speed exhibited an indirect effect through leg muscle explosive power (31.1%; p<0.001), while flexibility demonstrated a stronger indirect effect (63.4%; p<0.001). All three variables simultaneously influenced crescent kick ability (F=320; p<0.001; R²=0.960). The main strength is the use of path analysis, while the limitation is the cross-sectional design and 4% unexplained variance. Conclusions. Speed, flexibility, and leg muscle explosive power significantly affect crescent kick ability. Leg muscle explosive power functions as a partial mediator, particularly dominant in the flexibility crescent kick relationship. The theoretical implication enriches sports science knowledge regarding mediation mechanisms. Practically, training programs should integrate these three components systematically. Future experimental research is recommended to test training program effectiveness and consider additional factors such as coordination, balance, and psychological aspects.

Abstract

Study purpose. This study aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective Canva-based interactive learning media for Pencak Silat instruction in fifth-grade Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) at elementary schools in Padang Gelugur District, Pasaman Regency, in response to the low cognitive learning outcomes observed, where 70% of students failed to meet the Minimum Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP). Materials and methods. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach guided by the ADDIE model, integrated with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pre-test/post-test design. Both classes implemented Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as the shared instructional model, in which the experimental class (SDN 08 Makmur, n=22) used Canva-based media, while the control class (SDN 15 Sontang, n=17) used standard textbooks. Data were analyzed using Jamovi 2.3 through normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired-samples t-tests, N-Gain calculations, independent-samples t-tests, and Cohen's d effect size. Results. Expert validation yielded an overall mean of 90.67% classified as very valid, instrument reliability KR-20 = 0.81, and practicality of 96.00% from the teacher and 91.42% from students, both classified as very practical. The experimental class achieved a mean N-Gain of 0.67 compared to 0.52 in the control class, with a statistically significant difference (t=2.11, df=37, p=0.042) and a pedagogically meaningful medium effect size (Cohen's d=0.68). Conlusions. The Canva-based media was found to be valid, practical, and significantly more effective than standard textbooks within a PBL framework, and constitutes the first scientifically validated Canva-based media developed specifically for Pencak Silat instruction under the Merdeka Curriculum Phase C at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Study purpose. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are highly prevalent among office workers and have been associated with reduced work productivity. However, evidence examining both ergonomic risk and work productivity simultaneously among university employees remains limited, especially in developing countries. This study aimed to identify potential risk factors for WMSDs and examine their association with work productivity among university employees. Materials and methods. This exploratory cross-sectional study involved 30 university employees selected through purposive sampling. WMSDs were assessed using the Nordic Body Map (NBM), and productivity (including absenteeism and presenteeism) was measured with the World Health Organization-Health and Work Performance Questionnaire (HPQ). Ergonomic risk was evaluated using the Rapid Office Strain Assessment (ROSA). Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, as well as Fisher’s Exact and Mann-Whitney U tests (p<0.05). Results. The most common WMSDs were low back pain (LBP) (70%), upper neck pain (UNP) (66.7%), and right shoulder pain (RSP) (53.3%). Ergonomic risk was significantly associated with LBP (p=0.021). UNP was associated with lower work performance (p=0.038) and increased absenteeism (p=0.013), while LBP was also associated with higher absenteeism (p=0.037). Conclusions. These findings suggest that WMSDs, particularly in the neck and lower back, are associated with reduced work productivity. Improving workplace ergonomics may help reduce these issues and enhance work performance.

Abstract

Study purpose. This study aims to examine the role of concentration and kinesthetic perception as determinants of futsal playing skills among extracurricular players. Materials and methods. This study employed a correlational research design with a survey approach. The participants consisted of 20 extracurricular futsal players selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Concentration Grid Test (CGT) for concentration, the Vertical Linear Space Test for kinesthetic perception, and a standardized futsal playing skills test. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis with SPSS. Results. The results showed that concentration had a significant effect on futsal playing skills (t = -3.725, p = 0.002), indicating its important role as a cognitive factor in performance. In contrast, kinesthetic perception did not show a significant partial effect (t = 0.400, p = 0.694). However, the simultaneous test revealed that concentration and kinesthetic perception jointly had a significant effect on playing skills (F = 8.033, p = 0.003), suggesting a combined contribution of cognitive and sensorimotor aspects. Conclusions. Concentration plays a dominant role as a cognitive determinant of futsal performance, while kinesthetic perception acts as a complementary factor. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating psychological and sensorimotor training to improve futsal performance. However, given the relatively small sample size and the focus on a single extracurricular futsal setting, the findings should be interpreted with caution and may not be generalized to broader futsal populations.
