Abstract

Study purpose. This study examined how strategic management is translated into handball achievement development in Central Java, with particular attention to planning, organisational coordination, coaching implementation, monitoring, resource mobilisation, and differences between urban and rural development settings. Materials and methods. A qualitative descriptive design was used. Participants comprised 24 people: four regional handball administrators, five coaches, 12 athletes, and three supporting stakeholders. They were selected purposively because of their direct and sustained involvement in regional handball development. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews, observation, and document analysis, then analysed using a systematic thematic procedure. Credibility was supported by source and method triangulation, an audit trail, and member checking conducted with eight participants. The participants received summaries of their interview statements and the preliminary interpretations through WhatsApp and were asked to confirm their accuracy or provide corrections. Results. Five interconnected themes were identified: strategic direction and talent pathways; coaching delivery and competition exposure; coordination across organisational levels; monitoring as an adaptive rather than purely administrative process; and a persistent resource-and-geography gap. The findings indicate that a well-articulated plan did not automatically produce equal implementation across districts. Urban centres benefited from denser facilities, coaching networks, and competition access, whereas rural programmes relied more heavily on local initiative and informal collaboration. Conclusions. The study extends strategic management thinking in regional sport by showing that athlete development depends on the alignment of deliberate plans with emergent, context-sensitive adjustments. Sustainable handball development therefore requires not only stronger planning, but also clearer inter-organisational roles, equitable resource allocation, locally responsive monitoring, and differentiated support for urban and rural programmes.

Abstract

Study purpose. This study aimed to: 1) develop an effective underhand passing training model for volleyball athletes aged 13-15 years, 2) test the feasibility of the model, and 3) measure its effectiveness in improving underhand passing skills. Material and methods. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method from Borg & Gall, involving 30 male athletes (13-15 years) from five clubs in Ponorogo. The development stages included needs analysis, product design, expert validation, small-scale trials (n=10), and large-scale trials (n=30). Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and passing skill tests. The small-scale trial (n=10) showed an increase in the mean passing score from 66.8 to 75.9, indicating preliminary effectiveness of the developed model. Effectiveness was analyzed using paired-sample t-test and N-Gain. Results. The final model integrated basic training with small-team play (2v2, 3v3) and passing-to-setup transitions. Expert validation obtained a score of 85% (feasible). The large-scale trial showed a significant improvement in passing skills (mean pre-test=67.4, post-test=79.2, p<0.001). The N-Gain score was 0.36 (moderate category). Conclusion. The developed underhand passing model is feasible and effective in improving the underhand passing skills of volleyball athletes aged 13-15 years.

Abstract

Study purpose. This study aimed to develop and validate digital infographic learning media for fundamental movement learning based on traditional games among elementary school students. Materials and methods. The study used a modified Research and Development (R&D) model consisting of needs analysis, design, development, expert validation, revision, and product prototype. The media content was based on Pat Ni Gajah, a traditional game using coconut shells connected with ropes. Data were collected through content analysis, media design documentation, expert validation sheets, and product revision notes. Three validators were involved: a PJOK content expert, a digital learning media expert, and an elementary school PJOK practitioner. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively, while quantitative validation scores were analyzed using Aiken’s V coefficient. Results. The product was a digital infographic prototype containing game identity, learning objectives, equipment and play area, locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movement demonstrations, a digital observation rubric, and four character values: self-confidence, enthusiasm, hard work, and cipline. Expert validation produced an overall Aiken’s V of 0.79, categorized as valid. The relevance of PJOK content and character-value integration reached high validity (V = 0.90), while movement demonstration clarity, visual design, observation rubric suitability, and local-wisdom relevance were valid (V = 0.73–0.75). Conclusions. The digital infographic learning media prototype has adequate content validity and can proceed to product revision before limited classroom trials.

Abstract

Study purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of positional play training in improving first-touch performance and decision-making among football players. Materials and method. A one-group pretest–posttest experimental design was employed in a quantitative manner. Following a four-week positional play training program, 23 football players took part in the study and finished pre-test and post-test assessments. The 16 training sessions that made up the intervention were held four times a week for ninety minutes each. Levene's test was used to determine homogeneity and the Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests were used to determine data normality prior to hypothesis testing. Result. The findings showed that the data satisfied the parametric analysis's presumptions. Decision-making and first-touch performance significantly improved after the intervention, according to a paired-samples t-test (p <.001). These results show that by exposing players to game-like scenarios involving quick perception, information processing, and precise technical execution, positional play training can successfully combine technical and cognitive learning. Conslusion. As a result, positional play training is a useful strategy for improving first-touch performance and tactical judgment, which has applications for coaches preparing players for contemporary football settings.
