Abstract

This research explores the enhancement of technical competency in naval engine systems through industry-based learning approaches within maritime vocational education. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the study involved two participant groups: experienced maritime professionals with over 20 years of sea service who now serve in managerial, advisory, and auditing roles in port and shipping industries, and ten vocational lecturers with sea-going experience and extensive teaching expertise in marine engineering. Findings revealed a substantial gap between classroom-based theoretical instruction and the practical realities of engine room operations. Contributing factors include outdated curricula, limited industry engagement in teaching processes, and insufficient access to real-life engine room practice. Both professionals and educators highlighted the urgency of integrating experiential learning models to align educational outcomes with industry demands. The study emphasizes the need for curriculum reform grounded in real-world operations, competency-based assessment methods, and structured mentorship from industry practitioners. By bridging the disconnect between institutional instruction and shipboard operations, this research contributes a strategic framework for developing adaptive, skilled, and industry-ready maritime graduates in engine systems.

Abstract

Technology has become an important component in transforming education in the digital era, including at the early childhood education level, such as at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Jatibarang Kindergarten. This study analyzes the application of technology in the learning process by focusing on the use of hardware (laptops/computers, LCDs, smartphones, speakers) and software (Canva, YouTube) in three stages of learning: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Using a qualitative narrative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations of the principal, teachers, and direct observation of student activities during the learning process. The study results indicate that integrating technology significantly improves the quality of learning by facilitating teachers in preparing materials, presenting educational content, and conducting learning evaluations. Although it positively impacts children's motivation and understanding, there are challenges in the risk of dependence on technology and suboptimal infrastructure, particularly limited WiFi access. Implications: The development of educational technology in kindergartens requires a balanced approach between technology and conventional learning methods, supported by improving teachers' digital competencies and infrastructure.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to evaluate how effective the constructivism approach is in increasing student activity and their learning outcomes using meta-analysis methods. The data used comes from previous literature research, which includes articles and academic journals related to constructivist learning. Inclusion criteria include discussing constructivism theory directly, presenting data on improving learning outcomes from the pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II stages, and being published in 2020–2024. Articles that were not relevant to the topic, did not include quantitative data, or were not available in full were excluded from the analysis. Based on research results, the constructivist approach shows significant changes in increasing student academic achievement. The Pearson correlation test shows a strong relationship between pre-cycle and cycle II, and statistical analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test shows that there are significant differences at each learning stage. Apart from that, this method has been proven to increase student activity in learning. This study shows how important it is to use a constructivist approach to create active and meaningful learning. By using this approach, students can be helped to increase understanding and improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

The low accreditation ranking of Muhammadiyah elementary schools in Makassar City indicates a systemic problem in meeting national education quality standards. This study aims to identify the factors causing the low accreditation based on core performance components and relative fulfillment indicators in the IASP2020 accreditation system. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a multi-case study design in three Muhammadiyah elementary schools, as well as data collection techniques through field observations, in-depth interviews, and official school documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model to gain a comprehensive contextual understanding. The results of the study indicate that the low quality of teachers, the mismatch between educational background and the subjects taught, and the weak implementation of school management functions are the main factors causing the low accreditation. In addition, it was found that school self-evaluation is still administrative in nature and has not been used as a basis for continuous quality development. This study suggests the need for comprehensive intervention through teacher competency improvement programs, principal leadership training, and reformulation of the internal quality assurance system based on real performance according to the IASP2020 principles.
