The use of the Indonesian language in the title reflects the journal’s strong contextual grounding in Indonesian education while also emphasizing its broader commitment to addressing educational issues across diverse cultural, institutional, and system-level settings. The title represents three interconnected domains: learning as the core process of education, guidance as the support system for learner development and well-being, and educational management as the foundation for effective leadership, governance, and sustainable institutional improvement. Although rooted in the Indonesian educational context, the journal has a multidisciplinary and internationally relevant scope, welcoming empirical, theoretical, and practice-oriented studies in education, guidance and counseling, educational psychology, curriculum and instruction, assessment, educational leadership, policy, educational technology, inclusive education, and human development.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mathematics comic as a teaching medium for financial mathematics to support high school students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. This study was motivated by students’ still-low ability to understand the concept of compound interest and solve contextual mathematical problems related to daily life. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research subjects included 36 11th-grade high school students, two subject matter experts, two media experts, and one mathematics teacher. The product developed was a context-based mathematical comic that presents the concept of compound interest through visual storytelling, engaging illustrations, and real-life financial scenarios, thereby helping students understand the concept in a more concrete and communicative way. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, expert validation sheets, a practicality questionnaire, and pretest and posttest instruments. The validation results showed that the developed media met the criteria for high validity, with an average percentage of 81.7%. The results of the teacher practicality test yielded a percentage of 71.9%, and the student response rate was 86%, thus confirming that the media is practical and suitable for use in learning. Based on the pretest and posttest results, it can be concluded that the use of digital comic learning media has a positive impact on students’ problem-solving skills. This is evidenced by an increase in the average score from 56.05 on the pretest to 90.83 on the posttest, accompanied by an increase in the lowest score from 11 to 85 and the highest score from 85 to 100. These results indicate that comic-based learning media can help improve students’ understanding of the material being studied and are suitable for use as learning media in the classroom learning process.

Abstract

Needs assessment is a fundamental component of guidance and counseling services because it provides the basis for developing data-driven programs that are responsive to students’ actual needs. However, guidance and counseling (GC) teachers’ competence in conducting needs assessments may vary according to individual and professional characteristics, particularly technology utilization. This study aimed to analyze GC teachers’ competence in conducting needs assessments and examine differences in competence based on gender, years of professional experience, and technology utilization. A quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical survey design was employed. The participants consisted of 90 GC teachers selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings revealed that GC teachers’ needs assessment competence was generally at a moderate-to-good level (M = 47.11, SD = 17.04). The results further indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in needs assessment competence based on gender (p = .995) or years of professional experience (p = .857). In contrast, technology utilization showed a statistically significant relationship with needs assessment competence (F = 18.178, p < .001), with teachers demonstrating higher levels of technology utilization exhibiting substantially greater competence in conducting needs assessments. These findings suggest that technological competence plays a more important role in enhancing needs assessment competence than demographic characteristics. Therefore, strengthening digital literacy and technology-based assessment skills should be prioritized within professional development programs, counseling supervision, and educational quality improvement initiatives to support the implementation of effective data-driven guidance and counseling services in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development process and assess the suitability of the Ekanaru learning resource, based on the Jimdo website and using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, for teaching writing skills to fifth-grade public elementary school in Indonesia. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which comprises the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects comprised 13 Year 5 students. Product validation involved one media expert, one subject, and a language expert. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using quantitative descriptive techniques, expressed as percentages. The learning resource developed was integrated with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the Jimdo website platform. The validation results showed an average feasibility percentage of 84.14%, categorized as ‘highly suitable’. Teacher feedback scored 90%, and students' feedback 88.46 %, both falling into the ‘very good’ category. The evaluation results showed that students were able to compose explanatory texts in the correct structure and achieved good learning outcomes. The Ekanaru learning media, based on the Jimdo website and using the PBL model, is suitable for supporting the development of explanatory text writing skills among fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Renewable energy is an abstract topic in junior high school science: its systems and energy conversions are difficult to visualize, and teacher-centered instruction often leaves students with fragile, fragmented conceptual understanding. This study developed and evaluated a learning package that integrates PhET virtual-laboratory simulations with augmented reality (AR) 3D visualizations, delivered through a flipped-classroom approach, and examined its feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness for Grade IX students' conceptual understanding of renewable energy. Following the ADDIE Research and Development model, PhET simulations and AR scenes (authored in Assemblr Edu) were integrated into a flipped lesson in which first exposure occurred before class and class time was used for manipulation and discussion. Feasibility was assessed by media, content, and language experts using the Gregory index; practicality by teacher and student response questionnaires; and effectiveness by a 25-item conceptual-understanding test (pretest–posttest, n = 34) analyzed with the Hake normalized gain (N-gain) after confirming item construct validity. The package was very valid (media Gregory index 0.89; content and language 1.00), highly practical (student 91% and 81%; teacher 93%), and, in a single-group pretest–posttest design, associated with a medium gain (mean N-gain 0.50; scores rose from 81.18 to 91.53). Pairing manipulable simulation and spatial AR within a flipped structure was designed to shift learning toward a student-centered, inquiry-oriented process. The package offers a feasible, smartphone-deliverable route to visualizing abstract renewable-energy concepts.

Abstract

Flourishing is an important indicator of students' psychological well-being, especially in facing academic demands and developmental transitions in early adulthood. However, the measurement of flourishing in Indonesian students still requires a valid, reliable, and more precisely calibrated instrument. This study aims to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Flourishing Scale based on the PERMA model for students using Rasch analysis. This study uses a quantitative approach with instrument development design. Participants consisted of 236 active students of the Indonesian Education University aged 18–22 years. The instrument consists of 50 items arranged based on the five dimensions of PERMA, namely Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationship, Meaning, and Accomplishment. The data was analyzed using the Rasch Rating Scale Model through the Winsteps program. The results of the analysis showed that the instrument met the assumption of unidimensionality with raw variance explained by measures of 45.3% and unexplained variance in first contrast of 4.3%. The reliability of the person is 0.89 with a separation of 2.91, while the reliability of the item is 0.99 with a separation of 10.78. Item fit analysis showed three items, namely P7, P16, and P34, did not meet the model's suitability criteria and needed to be revised or considered for issue. The Wright map shows that the distribution of items is generally according to the level of flourishing of the respondents, although the instrument is more optimal for measuring students with medium to high flourishing levels. The PERMA-based Flourishing Scale shows good psychometric quality and can be used as an initial assessment tool to map student flourishing, noting that some items still need further refinement.

Abstract

The low level of student engagement and collaboration in group-based science learning, particularly on the abstract topic of ecosystems, underlies this study. Preliminary observations at three junior high schools in Majenang District, Indonesia revealed limited use of interactive learning media that supports collaboration among students, consistent with data showing that 75% of students had not reached the Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC) on ecosystem material. This study aims to develop the Jenga Collaboration with Combo Cards learning media and to examine its feasibility and effectiveness. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), limited to the Develop stage. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, user-trial questionnaires, and pretest-posttest instruments, then analyzed through product validation, reliability testing, item difficulty and discriminating power analysis, statistical testing, and N-Gain analysis. The results show that the learning media was rated Highly Feasible based on Expert Judgement, with feasibility percentages of 84.44% (media expert), 85.45% (content expert), and 85.83% (instructional design expert). The Paired Samples T-Test yielded t = -9.377 with Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant effect between students' pretest (mean 44.29) and posttest (mean 70.00) scores. The mean N-Gain obtained was 0.47, categorized as Medium. These findings demonstrate that the Jenga Collaboration with Combo Cards learning media is feasible and effective for improving students' learning outcomes on ecosystem material in Grade VII.

Abstract

Although formative assessment stands as a pillar of high-quality pedagogy, its integration into Indonesian primary education remains hamstrung by persistent systemic hurdles. This systematic literature review (SLR), anchored in the PRISMA protocol, scrutinised 32 high-impact studies published from 2019 to 2024. The study’s core objectives were threefold: (1) to evaluate how specific formative strategies drive student achievement; (2) to map the variables that either facilitate or obstruct successful implementation; and (3) to propose evidence-based benchmarks tailored to the Indonesian context. Findings indicate that well-calibrated formative practices yield a substantial effect size (d = 0.38–0.78) on pupil outcomes, particularly when the feedback loop is immediate, specific, and actionable. Eight standout strategies emerged: exit tickets, Socratic questioning, peer and self-assessment, gamified digital tools, structured observations, mathematical journals, and mini-whiteboards. Despite these advantages, the transition is often stalled by a trifecta of barriers: gaps in teacher competence, heavy administrative overhead, and infrastructure deficits. Ultimately, this review offers a roadmap for embedding contextualised, research-backed assessment frameworks into Indonesian primary classrooms

Abstract

Creative thinking and collaboration skills are important 21st-century competencies that need to be developed through science learning. However, observations in junior high schools in West Pasaman, Indonesia show that students' creative thinking skills are still low with an average of 47.875%, while collaboration skills have not developed optimally because there are still passive students in discussion and group work activities. This study aims to produce a valid, practical, and effective Citizen Science Project-based teaching module to improve students' creative thinking and collaboration skills in Ecology and Biodiversity material. This study is a research and development (R&D) using the Plomp model with research subjects of grade VII junior high school students. Data were collected through validation sheets, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, creative thinking skills tests, collaboration skills questionnaires, and observation sheets. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using percentages and inferential analysis through normality tests, homogeneity tests, Normalized Gain (N-Gain), and Independent Samples t-tests. The results of the study showed that the Citizen Science Project-based teaching module had a validity level of 92.88% with a very valid category, teacher practicality of 99% and student practicality of 92.25% with a very practical category. The module was also quite effective in improving creative thinking skills with an N-Gain value of 64.24% and had a positive influence on collaboration skills with a score difference of 12.56 on the questionnaire and 12.17 on the observation sheet between the experimental class and the control class. Thus, the Citizen Science Project-based teaching module is worthy of being used as an alternative science teaching material to improve students' creative thinking and collaboration skills.
