Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the EXCHIL Model (Experience-Based Contextual Hybrid Learning) in improving the speaking skills of students in the English Language Education Study Program at Institut Prima Bangsa. Using a convergent parallel mixed-methods design with a descriptive approach, the study involved 52 students. Quantitative data were obtained through questionnaires and pre-test–post-test scores, while qualitative data were collected from observations and in-depth interviews with three students. The main challenges identified were limited vocabulary, pronunciation difficulties, and speaking anxiety. Results showed a substantial improvement in students’ speaking performance, with the average pre-test score of 66.2 to 82.4 in the post-test. The score distribution also shifted positively, as more students achieved scores in the 75–85 range, while fewer scored below 70. Qualitative findings revealed enhanced fluency, confidence, and willingness to speak after the implementation of the model. These findings suggest that integrating experiential, contextual, and hybrid elements can foster student-centered language learning adaptable to diverse digital environments. Overall, the results highlight the potential of the EXCHIL Model for advancing 21st-century EFL pedagogy.

Abstract

This study examines the use of the Taman Wisata Kerajaan Sriwijaya Museum (TWKS) as a history-oriented educational tourist site in South Sumatra. Notwithstanding its significant cultural and educational potential, TWKS has not been effectively leveraged as a learning resource or historical tourist destination. This study employed a descriptive qualitative methodology, including observations, interviews with 12 participants (museum staff, educators, and visitors), and documentation. The data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which included data reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings identify three primary impediments: constrained digital innovation, insufficient institutional collaboration, and minimal public advocacy, which obstruct TWKS's role as a hub for education and cultural tourism. This museum has the potential to evolve into a vibrant learning environment that links historical knowledge with modern educational experiences. This study advocates for the revitalization of TWKS through digital transformation, enhanced academic partnerships, and the creation of interactive programs. This study enhances the dialogue on cultural heritage management by proposing digital and institutional revitalization strategies to achieve sustainable educational tourism and to reinforce museums' role in fostering historical literacy and local identity formation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of teachers in implementing Arts, Culture, and Crafts (SBdP) learning for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 8 Bontoramba. The research addresses the problem of how teachers contribute to planning, implementing, motivating, and evaluating SBdP learning in accordance with educational objectives. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that teachers play a central role in optimising SBdP instruction. As planners, they design teaching modules and select media that not only enhance cognitive skills but also foster creativity, positive attitudes, and an appreciation for art. As facilitators, they apply interactive methods such as demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on practice, while utilising the surrounding environment as a learning resource. As motivators, they foster student confidence and creativity through encouragement and rewards. As evaluators, they conduct comprehensive assessments of knowledge, skills, and attitudes using tests, portfolios, and performance evaluations. Challenges encountered include limited media, varying student abilities, and insufficient facilities for art activities. Despite these constraints, teachers demonstrate adaptability by creatively utilising available resources. These results suggest the need for improved school facilities and continuous teacher training under the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Many learners continue to struggle with English speaking skills, particularly in achieving accuracy and clarity of comprehension. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Song Interpretation Method on enhancing the speaking performance of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Sindue during the 2025/2026 academic year. The research focused on two main aspects of speaking ability: accuracy and comprehensibility. A quantitative approach was implemented through a quasi-experimental design involving pre-test and post-test control groups. The sample consisted of two classes selected through random sampling, with one designated as the experimental group and the other as the control group. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software, and the Mann–Whitney U Test was employed to assess the differences between the two groups. The findings indicated an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.035, which is lower than 0.05, signifying a significant difference between the post-test scores of the groups. Consequently, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, confirming that the Song Interpretation Method substantially enhanced students’ speaking proficiency, particularly in terms of accuracy and comprehensibility. These findings suggest that integrating songs into English instruction can foster communicative competence, increase classroom interaction, and motivate learners in EFL contexts.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the students' limited vocabulary mastery in learning English. Therefore, the researcher applied interactive games as an instructional tool to support students in expanding their vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of interactive games in improving the vocabulary achievement of eighth-grade learners at MTs Alkhairaat Alindau. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants consisted of 24 students from Class VIII A. The data, collected through pre-tests and post-tests, were examined using a normality test and a paired sample t-test in SPSS software. Findings show that the students' mean score increased significantly from 45.67 in the pre-test to 66.58 in the post-test. The statistical analysis yielded a t-value of -15.668 (with a very large effect size, Cohen's d = 1.48) and a significance value (two-tailed) of 0.000. Since this value is less than 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected while the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefore, the use of interactive games such as word matching and crossword puzzles proved effective in significantly improving students' vocabulary mastery at MTs Alkhairaat Alindau. This finding suggests that interactive games can serve as effective alternative strategies in EFL vocabulary teaching, particularly in similar junior high school settings.
