Abstract

Teacher attendance recording in SMK NU Kaplongan was still manual before using the digital attendance system for years ago. More than half of the teachers did not fill out the attendance list, creating a potential for fraud and negatively impacting learning. This study aims to analyse how teacher discipline development is managed through a web-based QR code attendance system with WhatsApp e-notifications at SMK NU Kaplongan Indramayu, and to evaluate the impact of this management on teacher discipline development through the attendance system technology. This study uses a qualitative method with an exploratory case study approach. Primary data sources for this study include 1 person—the school principal, 1 person—the curriculum manager, 1 person—the head of IT, and 5 people—teachers. The selection of informants is not random but is based on purposive criteria and specific considerations. Data collection was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, documentation, and a combination of these methods. Data analysis techniques involve categorising data, breaking it down into units, synthesising it, organising it into patterns, selecting it for discussion, and finally drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the development of teacher attendance discipline through a web-based QR code attendance system with WhatsApp e-notifications is managed effectively, including planning, organising, implementing, and supervising. However, the impact of this system on teachers' disciplinary awareness of barcode card use at arrival and departure remains low, with arrival at 53-63% and departure at 11-13%. Monitoring teacher attendance through this system does not guarantee that teachers consistently utilise a web-based QR code attendance system with WhatsApp e-notifications.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the School Literacy Movement (SLM) on the reading interest and reading ability of elementary school students. A quantitative survey was conducted using a questionnaire distributed to 97 teachers selected by simple random sampling from a population of 3,058 teachers, with a 10% margin of error calculated using the Slovin formula. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests, and hypothesis testing. The results indicate that SLM implementation, reading interest, and reading ability were all in the high category. Due to non-normal data distribution, Spearman's rank correlation was employed. The analysis revealed a significant, moderately strong correlation between SLM and reading interest (r = 0.492, p < 0.05), whereas the correlation between SLM and reading ability was weak and not statistically significant (r = 0.057, p > 0.05). This study contributes empirical evidence on SLM implementation in Eastern Indonesia, especially in Southwest Sumba Regency.

Abstract

This study addresses the growing concern of social bullying among students, particularly behaviours such as exclusion, rumour-spreading, and ridicule that negatively affect students’ psychological and social development. The objective of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of group counseling, utilizing the constructive criticism technique, as an intervention to reduce social bullying behavior among students at MAN 1 Deli Serdang. This study applied a quasi-experimental research method with a pretest-posttest control group design. A total sample of 65 students was selected through purposive sampling and assigned to experimental and control groups. Data were collected using observation and a Likert-scale questionnaire to assess changes in students’ social bullying behaviour before and after the counselling intervention. Data analysis was performed using paired-sample t-tests to measure the significance of behavioural improvement. The research findings indicate a significant decrease in social bullying behaviour among students who participated in group counselling using the constructive criticism technique (p = 0.001). This technique effectively enabled students to receive constructive feedback, enhance self-awareness, and foster positive social interactions. In conclusion, the constructive criticism technique in group counselling has been proven to be an effective intervention in reducing social bullying behaviour among students, thereby contributing to a safer and more supportive school environment.

Abstract

The quality of Al-Qur’anic education in many institutions often struggles to maintain consistency, both in methodology and management. To address these challenges, this study explores the implementation of the 10 Quality Pillars in managing Qur’anic learning through the Ummi Method. The aim is to assess the effectiveness of each pillar in enhancing students’ recitation accuracy and memorization skills. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and document analysis within Qur’anic education institutions, applying the Ummi Method. Data were analyzed thematically, focusing on the consistency of quality assurance practices. Findings reveal that management support, well-structured learning schedules, an ideal teacher-to-student ratio, effective coordinators, and clearly defined targets play a critical role in sustaining quality standards. Systematic learning stages, the application of mastery learning, internal and external supervision, and regular student progress reports significantly reduce recitation errors, strengthen tajwid proficiency, and enhance parental and community trust in the institution. The study concludes that the consistent application of the 10 Quality Pillars serves as an effective strategy for developing a structured and sustainable Qur’anic learning system. These findings offer practical insights for Islamic educational institutions seeking to improve the management and delivery of Qur’anic education through standardized quality measures.

Abstract

Comprehending explicitly stated information in reading passages remains a persistent challenge for many junior high school students, often hindering their ability to understand texts at the literal level, which forms the foundation for higher-order comprehension skills. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether the visualization strategy significantly improves literal reading comprehension among EFL students. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 20 Palu using a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of 105 eighth-grade students from classes VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, and VIII D, with class VIII C assigned as the experimental group and class VIII B as the control group through random sampling. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to collect data. The findings revealed that the experimental group achieved a higher mean score (78) than the control group (63) in the post-test, and the statistical analysis showed a significance value of p < 0.05, indicating that the visualization strategy effectively enhanced students’ reading comprehension, particularly in understanding literal information in descriptive texts. These findings suggest that visualization strategies can be integrated into EFL instruction to improve students’ engagement, comprehension, and overall learning experience.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited empirical research on the role of children's literature as an integrative medium in improving literacy and character education in Indonesian elementary schools. This study aims to analyze the contribution of children's literature to the improvement of literacy skills and character development among students at SD NU Kaplongan. The method used is a descriptive, qualitative survey approach to gain an in-depth understanding of literacy practices in children's literature. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, involving 29 fifth-grade students, a classroom teacher, and the school principal. The analysis technique used was thematic content analysis to identify major patterns in reading habits, pedagogical strategies, and institutional support. The study found that about 82% of students experienced increases in reading fluency, story comprehension, and moral reflection after implementing children's literature-based literacy. Teachers used picture books and themes relevant to students' interests, while the school provided support through the SAMIKU (One Week, One Book) program and library facilities. However, the students' reading culture was still incidental and had not become a sustainable habit. Scientifically, this study reinforces the effectiveness of literature-based pedagogy in holistic literacy learning, while practically providing an implementable model for schools to integrate literacy and character. Further research is recommended to explore the digital adaptation of children's literature in fostering motivation and media literacy in the era of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms, patterns, and dynamics of peer interactions among eighth-grade students at Sinar Husni Helvetia Private Junior High School, and to analyze their impact on students' social and emotional development. The background of this study stems from the importance of peer relationships as a key factor in the formation of adolescents' social personality, especially in a school environment that is socially and culturally heterogeneous. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques that include participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Research informants include eighth-grade students, homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and guidance counselors, who were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with validation through source, technique, and time triangulation. The results of the study show that students' forms of social interaction include both associative interactions (cooperation, accommodation, and assimilation) and dissociative interactions (competition and contravention) at low intensity. Students' strategies in establishing and maintaining friendships are demonstrated through empathy, open communication, tolerance, and the ability to adapt to differences in friends' personalities. Positive interaction patterns are proven to influence increased self-confidence, adaptability, and emotional balance in students, while negative interactions, such as group exclusivity or teasing, can lead to social awkwardness and low self-esteem.

Abstract

The Data Pokok Pendidikan (DAPODIK) system serves as the primary foundation for educational data management and policy decision-making in Indonesia. However, persistent institutional challenges continue to affect the accuracy and reliability of the data. This research aims to identify and analyze the institutional obstacles that hinder the effective implementation of DAPODIK. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the study explores three key dimensions: infrastructure, institutional structure, and human resources. The findings reveal that (1) inadequate internet connectivity and unstable electricity disrupt data entry and synchronization; (2) weak policy integration, limited budgets, and inconsistent leadership commitment impede effective data governance; and (3) insufficient training for school operators reduces technical competence, thereby compromising data validity. These findings highlight the need for a comprehensive reform strategy that strengthens digital infrastructure, enhances institutional governance, and develops human resource capacity to ensure reliable education data management.

Abstract

Academic procrastination remains a common issue among adolescents, particularly in school settings, where students often delay completing academic tasks and struggle with time management. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counselling using positive reinforcement strategies in reducing academic procrastination among seventh-grade students at SMP IT Ali bin Abu Thalib Tanjung Morawa. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 16 students, who were assigned to an experimental group (n = 8) and a control group (n = 8). The Mann–Whitney test indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, with the experimental group reporting lower levels of academic procrastination (M = 4.50) than the control group (M = 12.50). Furthermore, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test revealed a significant reduction in academic procrastination after the intervention (p = 0.012). These findings demonstrate that group counselling with positive reinforcement effectively reduces students’ tendencies to delay academic tasks, enhances motivation, and promotes better learning habits.
