Abstract

Abstract

The utilization of limited land provides an alternative approach to promoting productive agricultural activities among young people. Limited land availability requires the application of cultivation technologies that can optimize the use of space and resources, one of which is the cultivation of Caramel Melon using a drip irrigation system. This community service program aimed to implement drip irrigation technology for Caramel Melon cultivation on limited land while providing young people with practical experience in utilizing available land for agricultural activities. The program was conducted from July to August 2025 in Cipadung Village, Bandung City, involving 21 participants. A participatory approach was employed through hands-on activities, including land clearing, construction of a shade structure, preparation and incubation of the growing media, seedling preparation, filling polybags, transplanting and replacing seedlings, construction and installation of the drip irrigation system, plant maintenance, trellising, and flower and fruitlet selection. The success indicator was the successful implementation of drip irrigation technology in Caramel Melon cultivation on land that had previously been underutilized. The irrigation system utilized a water reservoir and drip pipes to deliver water more directly to the plant root zones. Participants were actively involved in each stage of the activity, providing them with practical experience in applying cultivation technology on limited land. The activity demonstrates that drip irrigation can serve as an alternative technology for developing agriculture on limited land while creating opportunities for young people to utilize available space for productive agricultural activities.

Abstract

Korong Pasa Limau is one of the villages in Nagari Parit Malintang, where the village has a surau (prayer hall) that has just been built and is located among the Guci community. The problem faced by the residents of Korong Pasa Limau is the safety of residents who want to pray at the newly built surau, named Surau Sungsang. Before Surau Sungsang was built by the residents of Korong Pasa Limau, the korong already had a surau located downhill, so residents who wanted to pray had to walk down and were at risk of falling or slipping on the descending path leading to that surau. Student Real Work Lecture (KKN-PPM) community service activities are carried out to solve problems that occur in the environment. One of them is by providing public facilities in the form of lighting at Surau Sungsang for residents to be able to start worshiping there. Students from Group 22 of KKN-PPM UNES 2024 installed lighting for Surau Sungsang using an electric power source from PLN, with a total of 8 light installation points at Surau Sungsang, Korong Pasa Limau.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) was implemented to address the issue of organic waste in Charang Village, Yaring District, Pattani Province, Thailand specifically, waste from lontar palm (Borassus flabellifer) husks, which have long been considered worthless and simply discarded. This problem has led to waste accumulation, unpleasant odors, and environmental pollution. The proposed solution is to convert lontar fruit peels into liquid organic fertilizer (POC) through a simple fermentation process using the EM4 bioactivator and molasses. Activities included community outreach, semi-structured interviews, and hands-on fermentation training using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which emphasizes the utilization of local assets and active community participation. The evaluation showed an increase in community knowledge and skills of approximately 80%, with farmer leaders committed to applying POC on their farmland and homemakers consistently processing household organic waste. A trial on water spinach demonstrated tangible success, with growth 2–4 cm faster than the control group, greener leaves, and sturdier stems. These results demonstrate that converting lontar waste into liquid organic fertilizer not only reduces organic waste generation but also supports sustainable agriculture, reduces dependence on chemical fertilizers, and strengthens community participation in maintaining village cleanliness.

Abstract

This community service program addresses the limited market access faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) among fishing communities in Bungus, Padang City, whose members produce processed fishery goods such as shredded fish floss (abon) and vacuum-packed fish products but continue to rely heavily on conventional, geographically limited sales channels. The program aimed to optimize the use of marketplace platforms, namely Shopee and Tokopedia, together with digital marketing strategies, in order to expand market reach and increase the income of partner MSMEs. The implementation adopted a Community-Based Empowerment approach carried out through three main stages: digital literacy socialization comparing e-commerce and marketplace systems, technical training in online store registration, smartphone-based product photography, and airtight packaging standardization, and continuous mentoring covering store management, promotional feature optimization, and digital transaction handling. Involving twenty-five partner MSMEs, the program produced a measurable increase in partner understanding of marketplace operations, the establishment of twelve official online stores, improved visual quality of product photography and packaging, and an average sales increase within two months following store optimization. These outcomes indicate that structured digital marketing mentoring is an effective pathway for expanding the market share of coastal MSMEs and strengthening their transition toward digitally based economic independence. The program also identified several implementation constraints, including varying levels of digital readiness among partners and the need for continued post-program mentoring, which are discussed as considerations for future coastal community empowerment initiatives.

Abstract

Fishing communities frequently face financial instability caused by fluctuating income cycles that are highly dependent on natural conditions and fishing seasons. The core problem is not the absence of income, but the lack of understanding and skill in managing cash flow, the absence of separation between business capital and household finances, and heavy reliance on informal moneylenders during the off-season (masa paceklik). This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to provide practical financial-management education and training for the Balik Saiyo Fishing Group in Kelurahan Teluk Kabung Tengah, Bungus Teluk Kabung, Padang City. The activity involved 40 participants, consisting of 15 lecturers as facilitators and 25 members of the fishing community and coastal families as the main target group. The method combined interactive socialization, training in simple daily cash recording, and the introduction of an income-allocation pattern together with an emergency-fund strategy. Program success was assessed qualitatively through facilitator observation and participant feedback during practice and discussion sessions. The results show an improved understanding among participants in separating working capital from consumption needs, in applying a 40%-30%-20%-10% cash-allocation scheme, and in building the habit of saving to face the off-season.
