Abstract

Stunting is still a global health emergency, threatening children's health and productivity in the future. Stunting in children begins in the family environment. Mothers contribute fully to optimal child growth and development. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of nutrition education about stunting using video media on the knowledge and attitudes of mothers under five. A quasi-experimental study with a pre-post test approach with a control group design was conducted in February – April 2023 at the Teluk Lingga Sangatta Health Center, East Kutai, East Kalimantan. A total of 36 samples were involved in this study by purposive sampling by taking into account inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analysed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. There were differences in knowledge before and after being given nutrition education videos with a value of p-0.000 and differences in attitudes before and after being given nutrition education videos with a value of p-0.000. There are differences in knowledge before and after nutrition education with leaflet p-0.000. There are differences in the attitude of mothers of toddlers before and after nutrition education with leaflet p-0.000. Nutrition education videos are more effective in increasing knowledge compared to the p-0.000 leaflet. Nutrition education videos are more effective in improving attitudes compared to leaflet p-0.001. Nutrition education videos about stunting are more effective in increasing knowledge and attitudes about stunting.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between balanced nutrition knowledge with the attitudes and behaviors of adolescent girls. An analytical survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted in July – August 2023 at the Paqusata Youth Integrated Healthcare Center working area of the Teluk Lingga Health Center, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. A total of 51 adolescents were included as a sample using total sampling and setting inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis using the Chi-Square test. Univariate tests showed respondents' age (31.4%), grade 10 (41.2%), mothers with high school education (43.1%), and parents' occupation was IRT (78.4%). Knowledge of balanced nutrition is mostly a good criterion (62.7%), attitudes are mostly good criteria (66.7%), and behaviour is mostly a good criterion (51%). The bivariate test showed knowledge of balanced nutrition with attitudes in adolescent girls with a value of p = 0.000. And knowledge of balanced nutrition with behaviour in adolescent girls with a value of p = 0.025. There is a relationship between knowledge of balanced nutrition and attitudes in adolescent girls. It is hoped that the management of the Puskesmas can provide regular nutrition socialization and education at the Adolescent Integrated Healthcare Center and in schools regarding balanced nutrition.

Abstract

The primary objective of this research is to observe and analyze the preparedness of Labschool Middle School students in Palu City for Disaster Risk Reduction. The population in this study consisted of all students at Palu City Labschool Middle School, using a total sampling technique, resulting in a sample size of 100 students. Data was collected using structured questionnaires that were directly filled out by the students. The questionnaires were designed to cover all aspects of the research variables and provide a comprehensive assessment of the student's preparedness. Data processing in this study utilized a computerized system via MS Excel. Knowledge: 95% of respondents rated their knowledge on the subject as not good. This indicates that the majority of respondents have a poor understanding of the topic. Early Warning System: 57% of respondents rated the early warning system as not good. Resource Mobilization: 73% of respondents rated resource mobilization as not good. This indicates significant issues in resource mobilization, with the majority of respondents feeling that improvements are needed in this area. The findings indicate a significant gap in disaster preparedness among Labschool Middle School students. The majority lack basic knowledge about natural disasters and have minimal exposure to disaster-related training or education. Despite the availability of disaster warning tools in schools, awareness and understanding of their use remain limited. An effective early warning system is crucial for community safety, yet many students exhibit low awareness and preparedness levels

Abstract

Between January-August 2019, Central Sulawesi Province recorded 235 HIV and 94 AIDS cases. Data from the Gender Sexuality Group indicates that their community houses 28 MSM, 18 of whom are living with HIV/AIDS. This research seeks to understand HIV/AIDS prevention behaviors among MSM at the Gender Sexuality Group Community in Palu City. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collection through triangulation techniques including in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation using interview guides. Results show that MSM within the Gender Sexuality Group community demonstrate good knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention. However, four out of seven informants still engage in risky behaviors. To address this, community and healthcare workers need to provide better infrastructure for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, especially for MSM living with HIV. Collaborative support from healthcare workers and the community is crucial in strengthening and assisting MSM. It's recommended that the Gender Sexuality Group community continues to conduct Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) activities to enhance MSM knowledge, particularly about HIV transmission and prevention. All MSM should undergo HIV testing at least twice a year. The community could organize seminars featuring disguised MSM PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) from outside the city as resource persons to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS within the key community

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of pregnant women’s classes in the working area of a community health center of Puskesmas Bulili, South Palu District, Palu City. This type of research used a qualitative method with a case study design. Informants were determined by purposive sampling technique. This research indicates that the midwife conducting the pregnant mother’s class has never attended training for the facilitator, the funds used were from the Health Operational Assistance (In Indonesia known as BOK), the media used by the Maternal and Child Health book (In Indonesia known as KIA book), the carpet, the way of disseminating information through invitations and notices in the mosque; material is done once. Reporting is done once a month. The implementation of the pregnant mothers’ class in the work area of the community health center of Puskesmas Bulili is not yet according to the class guidance for pregnant mother. We expect that the community health center of Puskesmas Bulili will meet every mother more than once, so it is not finished in one meeting and can separate per class of pregnant women according to the age of the pregnancy.

Abstract

To identify the determinants of risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus among the community at the Birobuli Community Health Center. Type of quantitative research with a case-control approach at a confidence level of 95%. The sample size was taken using the Slovin formula with a result of 76 people and a 1:1 ratio and using gender matching with a total sample of 152 people. Sampling was done using the purposive sampling technique. The data source used secondary data in the form of medical records and primary data in the form of interviews using questionnaires measuring physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, and sleep quality with the criteria that a doctor diagnosed the respondent as suffering from Type 2 DM and not suffering from other types of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Data analysis used the odds ratio test, the results showed that physical activity (OR=4.455 and CI=2.250-8.819), unhealthy eating patterns (OR=3.145 and CI=1.616-6.120), sleep quality (OR=5.444 and CI= 2,703 10,966), and dyslipidemia (OR=4,287 and CI=2,121-8,667) are determinants of the risk of Type 2 DM. It is suggested that health workers should improve health services at each Integrated Development Post (known as POSBINDU), an integrated monitoring and early detection activity for NCD risk factors (heart and blood vessel disease, diabetes, acute obstructive pulmonary disease, and cancer) as well as disorders due to accidents and acts of domestic violence which are managed by the community through integrated guidance, meanwhile, provide education on healthy lifestyles to overcome the incidence of DM

Abstract

This research aims to see the potential of each formulation and preparation of dishwashing soap with the active ingredient telang flower kombucha in inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria isolated from beef. This research is a laboratory experiment, namely by making a dishwashing soap base without the active substance of telang flower kombucha. Make a dishwashing soap base that adds the active substance of butterfly pea flower kombucha at concentrations of 20%, 30% and 40%. Biochemical identification results have shown that beef samples contain gram-positive bacteria in the form of Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes, as well as gram-negative bacteria in the form of Salmonella thyposa and Escherichia coli. The results of this research have also proven that pharmaceutical biotechnology products in the form of formulations and dishwashing soap preparations with the active ingredient telang flower kombucha have a positive correlation in inhibiting the growth of the four test bacteria. Based on the one-way ANOVA statistical test at each P value <0.05, it proves that telang flower kombucha dish soap at a concentration of 40% according to post hoc analysis is not significantly different from concentrations of 20% and 30% as a pharmaceutical and antibacterial biotechnology product. isolated from beef. The conclusion of this research is that the formulation and preparation of dishwashing soap at a concentration of 40% proved to be the most effective as a pharmaceutical biotechnology product in inhibiting the growth of the four test bacteria.

Abstract

Soy milk yogurt is a functional food that has health benefits. To improve the nutritional (vitamin) and functional (antioxidant) properties of yogurt, purslane leaves are added. This study aims to determine the relationship between vitamins C, E and iron on antioxidant activity (AA) in soy milk yogurt substituted with purslane. This research method uses random group 1 factor with a ratio of soy milk: purslane (100:0; 92.5:7.5; 85:15; 77.5:22.5; 70:30). Data were analyzed using correlation-regression. The results showed that the higher the purslane enrichment, the higher the vitamin E and vitamin C and each had a strong positive correlation with AA with an influence of 88.97% and 89.16% respectively. On the other hand, the higher the addition of purslane, the lower the iron content, causing AA to increase, with an Fe effect of 91.54% and a strong negative correlation. Thus, enriching yogurt with purslane leaves only increases vitamins C and E which have a positive impact on its antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Indonesia has a lot of large forests with a diversity of plant species. That diversity of plants can potentially be used as medicinal plants. Indonesians have long identified many plants with medicinal benefits as an effort to overcome various health problems, one of the plant is the kratom (Mitragyna speciosa). Kratom leaves are consumed as tea by brewing it with hot water. Some Kapuas Hulu people use sweeteners such as honey, to reduce the bitterness of kratom. The mixture of kratom herbal tea added with sweet honey is expected to produce sensory and functional attribute which will affect consumers in choosing products. This experiment used a Randomized Block Design (RBD). Statistical analysis of research data using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) test with a rate of 5%. The results of the sensory research of kratom herbal tea showed a significant effect on taste, but no significant effect on aroma and color, namely the color value of 2.08, aroma 2.28 and taste 2.25. The addition of honey variations to kratom herbal tea included vitamin C, flavonoids, alkaloids, and antioxidants, which was vitamin C content ranges from 8.9-13.5 mg/100 g, flavonoids 15.2-27.56 mg QE/ml, alkaloids 53.1-55.4% and antioxidant activity 39.1-80.1%.

Abstract

This study employed a cross-sectional design to investigate the association between dietary patterns and the occurrence of overweight status in urban adolescents. A total of 124 respondents were recruited using purposive sampling. Data collection involved anthropometric measurements and completion of the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) using a self-administered questionnaire method. The study findings revealed that 29% of adolescents experience overweight status. Most frequent food consumption occurs in staple foods (82.3%), animal protein (73.4%), plant-based protein (63.7%), fats (82.3%), and vegetables (50.8%). Conversely, infrequent consumption was observed for fruits (58.9%), snacks (68.5%), fast food (71.8%), and beverages (55.6%). Furthermore, deficits are prevalent in energy (44.4%), protein (46.8%), and carbohydrates (60.5%), while excess intake is seen in fats (57.3%). Respondents exhibit predominantly low physical activity (66.9%). Chi-square tests indicate significant associations between consumption frequency in the plant-based protein and vegetable groups (p ≤ 0.05) and between energy intake and macronutrients (p ≤ 0.05) with overweight status.
