Abstract

Generation Z demonstrates a high level of interest in healthy lifestyles and fitness, including efforts to shape their appearance and achieve an ideal body standard. The desire to have a body that conforms to these standards may contribute to the development of a positive body image. However, it may also lead to dissatisfaction and concerns about appearance when individuals perceive their bodies as not meeting their expectations. This study aimed to describe the body image of Generation Z who are Fitness Enthusiasts. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach, involving a population of Generation Z Fitness Enthusiasts and a sample of 117 respondents selected using convenience sampling. The body image instrument was developed based on the five aspects of Cash's (2002) theory and demonstrated Corrected Item-Total Correlation values ranging from 0.304 to 0.629, with a reliability coefficient of α = 0.825. The results showed that 62 respondents (53.0%) had a relatively positive body image, while 55 respondents (47.0%) had a relatively negative body image. These findings indicate that respondents with a relatively positive body image were slightly more numerous than those with a relatively negative body image. The findings further suggest that active involvement in fitness does not necessarily result in a positive body image, and that body image among fitness-active young adults remains a multidimensional and heterogeneous experience

Abstract

Generation Z employees are the workforce group with the highest job mobility compared to other generations. This tendency is driven by dissatisfaction with their work environment as well as the desire to achieve better career opportunities. One of the factors influencing their intention to change jobs is the pursuit of work-life balance. This study aimed to examine the relationship between work-life balance and job hopping motives among Generation Z employees. The study employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 150 Generation Z employees aged 18–29 years, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Work-Life Balance Scale based on the theory of Fisher et al. (2009) and the Job-Hopping Motives Scale (JHMS) adapted from Lake et al. (2017). Content validity was assessed using Aiken's V coefficient, with all 11 work-life balance items and 10 job hopping motives items obtaining values of ≥ 0.70. The reliability coefficients were 0.814 for the work-life balance scale and 0.864 for the job hopping motives scale. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The results revealed a significant negative correlation of low strength between work-life balance and job hopping motives (p = 0.007; r = −0.219), indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. These findings suggest that higher levels of work-life balance among Generation Z employees are associated with lower job hopping motives. Conversely, lower levels of work-life balance are associated with higher job hopping motives.

Abstract

The job of a firefighter carries high and dangerous risks, yet there are still some firefighters who remain loyal, dedicated, and enthusiastic in helping the community. They demonstrate optimal work engagement, allowing them to continue performing their duties effectively. One of the factors related to work engagement is the meaning of work, which is viewing one's job as valuable, meaningful, and contributing to one's own life as well as society. The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between the meaning of work and work engagement among firefighters in DKI Jakarta. The research method used is quantitative with a correlational research design. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling of the purposive sampling type, with a research sample of 153 firefighters who meet the criteria of having a minimum work experience of 5 years and being field officers. The measurement tools used are the Work As Meaning Inventory (WAMI) scale to measure work meaning and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) to measure work engagement. Content validity was assessed using Aiken’s V coefficient, with 15 work engagement items and 9 work meaning items obtaining a value >0.70. The reliability of the work meaning scale was 0.883 and the work engagement scale was 0.813. The data analysis technique in this study uses normality tests and non-parametric correlation tests. Thus, the results obtained were (p = 0.000; r = 0.649), H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. The research results indicate that there is a positive relationship between the meaning of work and work engagement among firefighters in DKI Jakarta. The value of the correlation coefficient indicates a strong relationship, meaning that the higher the work meaning felt by the officers, the higher their work engagement. Conversely, if the work meaning is lower, the work engagement tends to be lower as well.

Abstract

Firefighters have high job demands, including 24-hour readiness, heavy workloads, and exposure to emergency situations that may increase the risk of burnout, particularly when these demands are not balanced by adequate work-life balance. This study aimed to examine the relationship between work-life balance and burnout among firefighters in Jakarta. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design involving 151 firefighters selected using a purposive sampling technique. The Work-life balance Scale consisted of 17 valid items with an Aiken's V validity coefficient of ≥ 0.70 and a reliability coefficient of 0.897, while the Burnout Scale consisted of 13 valid items with an Aiken's V validity coefficient of ≥ 0.70 and a reliability coefficient of 0.791. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed (p = 0.200 > 0.05), and the linearity test confirmed a linear relationship (p = 0.278 > 0.05). Therefore, the data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results revealed a significant negative relationship between work-life balance and burnout (r = -0.774; p = 0.000 < 0.05). The negative correlation indicates that the higher the firefighters' work-life balance, the lower their level of burnout. Conversely, the lower the work-life balance, the higher the level of burnout. Therefore, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted, indicating that work-life balance has a significant negative relationship with burnout among firefighters in Jakarta.
