Abstract

Background: Young women can suffer from anemia due to monthly menstruation and by having many activities without adequate iron-filled nutrition. Otherproblems found on them are overweight and obesity. The data show that one with overweight or obesity can lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) along with increasingproinflammatory cytokines, which will cause the transcription of hepcidin. The increaseof hepcidin transcription will inhibit the absorption of iron from the intestine into the circulation, inhibiting spending iron reserves into circulation, and inhibitingthe release of iron recycled from splenic macrophages. This can cause IDA. The purpose of this study was to obtain the proportion of iron deficiency anemia in overweight or obese young women. Methods: The design of this study was cross sectional using purposive sampling. The subjects of this study were the student from fiveselected Senior high schools inBoyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. The determination of IDAis done by using hemoglobin and indexes of erythrocytes. Results: This study was the follow-upof the previous study, which was conducted to 14 obese and/or overweightyoung women withanemia From 14 subjects, there wasone subject suffered from other anemia and 13 subjects with IDA (using index erythrocytes examination). Their mean of MCV was 72.68±4.29fl, MCH was 23.08±2.63pg, and MCHC was 35.21±0.65 %.Conclusions: From this study, almost all overweight or obeseyoung women with anemia were indicated as IDA (92.8%).

Abstract

More than two billion people are expected to lack of essential vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A, iodine, iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn). Research showed positive effect of zinc supplementation on children's growth, morbidity and mortality in diarrhea and pneumonia. Zinc plays an important role in the structure and function of the brain; and zinc deficiency also has negative impact the development of cognitive functions such as attention and memory. This paper aims to determine the effect of zinc deficiency on memory in school-age children in the district of Klaten. The study used was description of analytic with quantitative approach by using cross-sectional design. The experiment was conducted in some elementaryschools (SD) in the district of Klaten. The study population was the students from 9-12 age groups in the elementary schools, which in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study employed purposive sampling technique to represent the elementary schools of villages and towns. The determination of the samples was done by PASS softwareand the number of sample was 60. The data were analyzed by using univariable and bivariable by statistical test t-test with 95% confidence intervals. The findings showed that children with zinc deficiency had the average value of 6.1 short-term memory with SD 1.3, whereas children with normal zinc levels had the average value of 10.7 and SD 3.1. The mean difference of -4.6 with 95 % CI (-6.98 - (-2.14) and a value of p = 0.0004 or p < 0.05. The average value of long-term memory of children with zinc deficiency was 7.8 with SD 3.0, whereas the average value of children with normal zinc levels was 8.4 and SD 3.2. The difference of the mean was -0.57 with 95 % CI (-3.16 - 2.01) and a value of p = 0.658 or p > 0.05. To conclude, the average scores value of short-term memory in children with zinc deficiency was lower than the short-term memory scores in children with normal zinc levels. The average scores value of long-term memory in children with zinc deficiency was equal to the children with normal zinc levels.

Abstract

The model system of education and maternal and child health counseling at the Posyandu has been done with the direct model, namely Posyandu. The increasing number of women working population affects the lessening number of participants as well as the effectiveness of this activity. This study proposed a model of maternal and child health education and counseling based on e-learning with a reference of electronic education and health counseling (e-pedakos). This study was conducted in several stages. The first stage was the establishment and development of e-pedakos systems and infrastructure. Subsequently, it was examined related to the public’s attendance and responses, which was preceded by the training on how to use E-pedakos. The last stage was the survey on system effectiveness. This counseling model counseling of e-pedakos provides an alternative to resolve the weaknesses of conventional posyandu. It promotes maternal education and counseling which can be done anytime and anywhere.

Abstract

Sleep latency is the time period between the preparation for sleep and the start of deep sleep.Sleep latency is the main indicator to determine the quality of an individual sleep. The longer the sleep latency is required by someone to fall asleep, the lower of the sleep quality will be. Dhikr breath is an alternative method of therapy in order to reduce a person’s latency of sleep to get a better sleep quality. In dhikr breath, there is relaxation and transcendental meditation that is effective to make a person relax and will eventually fall asleep. The study aimed to determine the relationship between the intensity of performing dhikr breath with sleep latency. It was an observational study which implemented the cross sectional approach. It involved 21 respondents who practice dhikr breath. The data of dhikr breath intensity and sleep latency were obtained by carrying on questionnaire. The results showed that the mean intensity of dhikr breath of the respondents was 81.14 times, while the mean sleep latency was 13.05 minutes. The analysis of correlation was conducted by applying Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test with p-value = 0.00, it indicated that there is a very significant correlation between the intensity of dhikr breath and sleep latency. The higher is the intensity of dhikr breath, the better the sleep latency will be.

Abstract

Compulsory education has been implemented around the world despite of the variety of law and objectives. It is presumed that students’ career path can be preferred since they are engaged in this level of education, particularly in junior high school. In fact, most of students at this level of education undergo serious obstacle in exploring their preference. A few instruments or tools are actually available and relevant which can help the students in junior high school to make decision on their next education. It is so impotant to design vocational interest instruments that can provide data of counceling process for education consultation in general and junior high school in particular. Holland Theory is a pioneer in assessing the environments of colleges and universities and their influence on students. It has been a central development of knowledge on nonacademic accomplishments. This study aimed to establish a vocational interest instrument based on Holland Theory for junior high school students. It involved junior high schools students and vocational students of Surakarta as the respondent. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to identify the validity and reliability of this instrument. The yield showed the relevance of Holland Theory with empirical evidence which indicated its suitability to design vocational insterest instrument. Therefore, the instrument developed in this study is valid and reliable to be applied and it is capable in providing recomendation for the next specified education.

At the same time, mathematics is important subject in the development of communication and information technology. Therefore, this research aims to analyze and investigate Mathematics achievement on Senior High School students, which are observed based on Mathematics self-efficacy and peer relationship. This research is conducted by employing quantitative approach with regression analysis. Subjects used in this research are 143 students of Senior High School in Surakarta, who are measured for their Mathematics achievements by using cognitive final marks on report of odd semester of academic year 2013/2014. The variables of Mathematics selfefficacy and peer relationship are measured by using scales. Based on data analysis results, the conclusion obtained states that both Mathematics self-efficacy and peer relationship can predict Mathematics achievement.
