Abstract

The report card is an official document that records the development of students' learning outcomes over a certain period. The achievement of the report card for public elementary schools in Ulujami District shows a lower percentage compared to the average achievement of the quality of learning in public elementary schools in Pemalang Regency. The low quality of learning in public elementary schools in Ulujami District is also a result of the low professional competence of teachers. Therefore, an increase in teachers' professional competency is needed to improve the quality of learning. This study aims to analyze the effect of the instructional leadership of the school principal and work motivation on the professional competency of teachers in public elementary schools in Ulujami District, Pemalang Regency. The research uses a quantitative approach, with data collected through standardized questionnaires from 178 teachers in Ulujami District's public elementary schools. The results of the multiple regression analysis indicate that the instructional leadership of the school principal and work motivation both have a positive and significant effect on the professional competence of teachers. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening instructional leadership and teacher work motivation in efforts to improve the professional competence of teachers. The practical implications of this research can serve as a reference for school management and policymakers in designing teacher quality improvement programs and open opportunities for further research that can explore other factors influencing teacher professional competence.

Abstract

Low empathy in students is a major factor significantly driving the emergence and continuation of bullying behavior in the school environment. This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of the empathy chess educational game (catur empati – Cempa ) in increasing empathy of elementary school students, analyzing the impact of Cempa on reducing physical and verbal bullying in the elementary school environment. This research employed a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. The data collection techniques included pretests-posttests, interviews, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique in this study used the N-Gain test from the pretest-posttest results and triangulation from the results of interviews and questionnaires. The results in this study show the effectiveness of the Cempa in increasing student empathy through pretest and posttest. The average N-Gain value on empathy knowledge and empathy attitudes is classified as a moderate category. Meanwhile, the average N-Gain value in the aspect of empathy action is classified as a low category. The impact of the educative game Cempa on physical and verbal bullying is also seen to have decreased bullying behavior. This is due to the level of empathy, knowledge, and attitudes of students who have increased after playing Cempa. So, it is proven that the Cempa can increase empathy to reduce bullying behavior

Abstract

This article examines the use of role-play in teaching pragmatic skills to the vocational students with the aim of promoting authentic interaction from Indonesian vocational students of English as a foreign language (EFL). The investigation adopts a qualitative perspective, as it recognizes the constraints of pre-set scripts in cultivating context-specific communication skills, by analyzing how student-generated role play in diverse contexts may cultivate pragmatic attunement and facilitate participation. Students in the fourth semester of an English for Tour and Travel class worked together to design workplace communication tasks based on video models and real-life experiences. Research data included classroom observations, video recordings of students’ performances, and post-project interviews. It is found that the students progressed in the use of speech acts, politeness strategies, and turn taking in spoken interactions. These roles play activities enabled not only improvised speech practice and peer feedback but also provided an opportunity for language learners to reflect cultural norms and communication intentions. The research reinforces the importance of moving away from static textbook discussions to the dynamic real-world tasks that approximate actual use of the language. It points to the need for the inclusion of pragmatic competence in speaking instruction, especially in vocational EFL contexts where work-related communication and sociopragmatic awareness are important.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the landscape of education, including Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI). Amidst the challenges of online learning, which often promote individualistic learning and limited social interaction, the cybergogy approach emerges as a pedagogical strategy that considers emotional engagement, social learning, and cognitive construction within virtual environments. This study aims to examine cybergogy as a strategy to enhance students' digital collaboration in cross-cultural PAI learning in the digital era. This study focuses on two main questions: first, how can the concept of Cybergogy be introduced through Islamic religious education?; and second, how can these concepts be applied in an Islamic educational environment?. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, drawing on the principles of a Systematic Mapping Study (SMS). Implementing cybergogy in online PAI learning can enhance students' collaborative engagement through structured instructional design, the use of digital platforms and social media, project-based learning models, and active teacher facilitation. Additionally, this strategy is capable of fostering cross-cultural learning spaces that enrich students' religious and social perspectives. However, the application of cybergogy faces several challenges, including technological access gaps, teacher readiness, and cultural sensitivity, which must be addressed systematically. Therefore, cybergogy holds significant potential to promote collaborative, adaptive, and contextual Islamic education in the digital era.

Abstract

Rapid advances in information and communication technology not only offers unprecedented access to information but also presents significant challenges, especially misleading content in social media. This condition requires students as social media users to develop good information literacy skills. The purpose of the study is to assess the level of information literacy of students to face and fight misleading content in social media. The researchers used a mixed research method, using a validated questionnaire based on Eshet's (2004) digital literacy framework and interviews as research instruments. 35 students were selected through a saturated sampling method. This study assesses 3 main indicators, namely: the ability to access and understand digital information, critical evaluation and analysis of digital information, and responsible digital participation and communication. The research findings revealed that English Language Education students at IAIN Takengon show relatively low ability to deal with misleading content in social media. This study provides implications that there needs to be an integration of the curriculum with various skills (critical thinking, lateral reading and others); educational institutions, especially universities, pay attention to information literacy by providing training to lecturers, providing facilities and supporting tools; and for social media users, especially students, to be more active in dealing with misleading content

Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive learning multimedia based on the Discovery Learning approach using the Kodular application for teaching Demand, Supply, and Equilibrium Price in Economics subjects at SMP Swasta Santo Thomas 1 Medan. The research adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach, utilizing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), which is commonly used in educational product development. The development process was carried out systematically through five stages, focusing on creating multimedia that supports student self-directed learning and enhances their understanding of the subject matter. The results of the study show that the developed multimedia was well received by students, as evidenced by its effectiveness in facilitating active learning and increasing student engagement. This is reflected in the significant improvement in the average student scores from 39.28 before the implementation to 94.53 after the use of Kodular-based multimedia. At the evaluation stage, the application was well accepted and provided a deeper understanding of economic concepts to the students, based on positive feedback from expert validators and learners. The study concludes that the implementation of Discovery Learning through Kodular significantly enhances the quality of instruction, providing students with a deeper comprehension of complex topics in Economics.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop English multimedia learning based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model using the Linktree platform for instructional text material at SMP Swasta Santo Thomas 1 Medan. The study followed the ADDIE development model without testing effectiveness, focusing solely on producing a feasible and relevant learning product. The analysis phase revealed that students encountered significant difficulties in understanding the structure and language features of instructional texts, and that the learning process lacked interactive digital media. In response, a multimedia product was developed by integrating PBL principles to foster student collaboration and critical thinking. The Linktree platform was selected to structure all learning materials, assignments, and activities into a single accessible interface. The developed media was validated by subject matter experts, instructional design experts, and media experts, all of whom rated it as 'very feasible.' Subsequent individual, small group, and large group trials involving students also showed high levels of acceptance and usability. These findings indicate that the developed media is practical and appropriate for supporting 21st-century English learning at the secondary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of Value-Based Leadership (VBL) in selected Islamic higher educational institutions in North Sumatera, Indonesia. Despite the growing emphasis on leadership in Islamic higher education, empirical evidence on the perception and measurement of Value-Based Leadership in Indonesia remains limited. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing survey questionnaires to gather data from undergraduate students. The study's population comprises students from three State Islamic Universities: UIN Sumatera Utara, UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan, and STAIN Madina, totaling 33,492 students. A stratified random sampling method was used to select a sample size of 380 respondents, ensuring representativeness across the institutions. The methodology involved descriptive analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), including Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), to test the hypothesized model. Data screening was performed to identify missing data, outliers, and assess normality using skewness and kurtosis values. Key findings indicate that the highest perceived dimension of VBL among respondents is commitment emerged as the most prominent perceived dimension, followed by accountability, Integrity, and Sense of direction. The initial CFA model for VBL did not meet the Goodness-of-Fit (GoF) requirements. However, after re-specification through the removal of 5 items re-specification for improved fit the revised model demonstrated improved fit indices(230.470, df = 95, = 2.426, CFI = .986, RMSEA = .061, TLI = .982, GFI = .932. The convergent validity of the revised VBL model was confirmed, with AVE values 0.5 and CR values 0.7, supporting the validity and reliability of the VBL measurement model. This study contributes to understanding the perception and measurement of value-based leadership and offers a validated framework to guide research and leadership development in Islamic higher education.
