Abstract

Although Imam al-Ghazālī’s Tahāfut al-Falāsifah has been widely examined in Islamic philosophical discourse, research that specifically investigates the framework of al-Ghazālī’s philosophical critique as a systematic epistemological and metaphysical analysis remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the pattern of philosophical critique developed by Imam al-Ghazālī against the metaphysical rationalism of the Peripatetic philosophers, particularly regarding causality, the eternity of the world, and God’s knowledge. The study employed a qualitative approach with a library research design, involving primary sources in the form of Tahāfut al-Falāsifah and relevant works of classical Islamic philosophy and theology, selected through purposive sampling based on textual relevance. Data were collected through document review and philosophical text analysis, and were then analyzed using a critical-philosophical approach with emphasis on epistemological, ontological, and argumentative methodological dimensions. The findings show that al-Ghazālī’s critique was not directed toward a wholesale rejection of philosophy, but rather toward delimiting rational claims when they exceed their epistemic capacity, particularly in the domain of metaphysics. These findings contribute to the development of critical Islamic philosophy theory and broaden understanding of the relationship between reason, revelation, and spiritual intuition in classical Islamic thought. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of an integrative epistemological approach to understanding Islamic philosophy and recommends reassessing al-Ghazālī’s position as a reformer of philosophical methodology rather than merely an anti-philosophical figure, with theoretical implications for strengthening Islamic philosophy studies and practical implications for developing contemporary philosophy and Islamic studies curricula.

Abstract

Although the philosophy of Qur’anic exegesis has received attention in Islamic studies, scholarship that specifically discusses the integration of ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions in contemporary exegesis remains limited. This study aimed to analyze how the philosophy of ʿilm al-tafsīr positions Qur’anic interpretation not only as a scholarly process but also as a spiritual and humanistic process. The study employed a qualitative approach with a library research design through a review of Qur’anic verses, classical and contemporary exegetical works, and literature on Islamic philosophy of science. Data were drawn from primary sources, namely the Qur’an and major tafsir texts, and were analyzed using content analysis and a comparative method. The findings indicate that ʿilm al-tafsīr ontologically functions to understand the essence of human existence and revelation; epistemologically, it operates as a synthesis of revelation and reason in constructing sound knowledge; and axiologically, it directs knowledge toward maṣlaḥah, morality, and divine values. These findings contribute to the development of an Islamic scientific paradigm and broaden understanding of tafsir as an integral discipline that integrates theoretical and practical dimensions. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of the philosophy of ʿilm al-tafsīr in building an integral, dynamic Islamic scientific paradigm that is relevant to modern challenges, and it recommends that Islamic educational institutions integrate philosophical approaches into tafsir curricula. The implications include a theoretical contribution to enriching the literature on Islamic philosophy of science and practical implications for developing contemporary tafsir methodologies that balance fidelity to the text with contextual relevance.

Abstract

Advances in information and communication technology have had a significant impact on education, including Islamic Religious Education (PAI), particularly Fiqih instruction. However, suboptimal use of modern instructional media, limitations in facilities and infrastructure, and teachers’ readiness to integrate technology into the learning process remain constraints, which in turn contribute to low student motivation and participation in Fiqih learning. This study aimed to describe the implementation of interactive modern instructional media in Grade X Fiqih learning, identify constraints encountered in its use, and analyze the role of such media in students’ motivation and learning comprehension. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the Fiqih teacher and Grade X students at a Madrasah Aliyah. The findings showed that interactive modern instructional media, such as digital presentations (PowerPoint), instructional videos, and the use of an LCD projector, had been implemented in Fiqih learning and were able to increase students’ attention, motivation, participation, and ease of understanding the material. Nevertheless, implementation remained constrained by limited supporting facilities and limited teacher preparation time. The study concludes that interactive modern instructional media play an important role in improving the quality of Fiqih learning; therefore, support for facilities and infrastructure, as well as enhancement of teacher competence, is needed to ensure that the use of modern instructional media can be more optimal and sustainable.

Abstract

Although studies on organizations and social structures have been widely discussed in management and organizational sociology literature, research that specifically integrates an Islamic perspective, particularly the values of amanah, justice, and efficiency, within organizational contexts in the digital era remains relatively limited. This study aims to analyze organizations as social structures from an Islamic perspective and to explore the integration of the values of amanah, justice, and efficiency in organizational management amid digital transformation. The study adopts a qualitative approach with a library research design, involving analysis of primary sources comprising the Qur'an, the Sunnah, as well as classical and contemporary works in Islamic thought, management, and organizational sociology. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify concepts, values, and patterns of integration between Islamic teachings and modern organizational practices. The findings show that amanah functions as the ethical foundation of leadership and organizational governance, justice becomes the main principle in role distribution and decision-making, and efficiency is understood as a form of professionalism and resource optimization aligned with the principle of ihsan. These findings contribute to the development of a conceptual framework for organizations grounded in Islamic values and broaden the understanding of the relevance of Islamic teachings for organizational management in the digital era. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of integrating the values of amanah, justice, and efficiency in building sustainable, welfare-oriented organizations, and recommends that organizational leaders, educational institutions, and policymakers adopt these values as ethical and strategic foundations in modern organizational governance. The implications of this research include theoretical contributions to enriching the Islamic management literature and practical implications for developing organizations that are adaptive, ethical, and competitive in the digital era, while also opening avenues for further research on the empirical implementation of Islamic values in contemporary organizations.

Abstract

Although the gross motor development of young children has been widely studied, research that specifically examines the application of ball-throwing games as a structured instructional strategy for 4–5-year-old children remains limited. This study aimed to improve the gross motor skills of children aged 4–5 years through ball-throwing games at KB Mambaul Ma’arif Belik. A qualitative approach was employed using a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented in two cycles with 25 children in Group A as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and gross motor skill assessment sheets, then analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques and percentages to identify changes in children’s gross motor development achievements. The findings show a significant improvement in children’s gross motor skills, with the average achievement increasing from 50.00% at baseline to 88.80% in the second cycle. The implementation of ball-throwing games proved effective in enhancing children’s strength, coordination, and movement accuracy. The study concludes that ball-throwing games constitute an effective and enjoyable alternative for gross motor learning in early childhood education institutions and recommends their systematic integration into learning activity planning to support the optimal development of gross motor skills in young children.

Abstract

Although the development of early childhood independence through hands-on activities has been widely researched, studies that specifically examine the implementation of Montessori-based cooking classes in local early childhood education contexts remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Montessori-based cooking class activities in enhancing the independence of children aged 4–5 years at KB Perintis Petir. A mixed-methods approach was employed using a Classroom Action Research design conducted over two cycles and involving 25 children selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through behavioral observation and documentation of activities, then analyzed descriptively in both qualitative and quantitative terms using percentage scores of independence levels. The findings show a significant increase in children’s independence, as indicated by the rise in the proportion of children categorized as “Developing as Expected” and “Developing Very Well” from 32% at baseline to 100% in the second cycle. These results contribute to strengthening Montessori theory, particularly the concept of practical life, and provide practical implications for early childhood education institutions in designing experiential learning activities that support children’s independence. The study also opens opportunities for further research on the development of children’s socio-emotional aspects through structured hands-on activities.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education plays an important role in shaping students’ character, morality, and understanding of religious values, particularly among younger generations. However, the use of traditional or conventional teaching models has led to low emotional engagement and suboptimal internalization of religious values. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Value Clarification Technique (VCT) learning model in the grade XII Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subject at SMK Sunan Ampel Jombang and to identify the obstacles encountered in its use. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, with data collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, Islamic Religious Education teacher, and grade XII students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, and the validity of the findings was tested through source and technique triangulation. The results show that the implementation of the Value Clarification Technique improved students’ ease of understanding the material, their activeness in learning, and the depth of value internalization. Nevertheless, its implementation remains constrained by limited time and teacher preparation, difficulties in adaptation for some students, and mental fatigue among less active students. The study concludes that the Value Clarification Technique plays an important role in enhancing learning quality while strengthening character formation and religious values in a contextual manner. The findings imply the need to improve teachers’ competence in developing creative and reflective value-facilitation strategies and to strengthen classroom time management so that the implementation of the Value Clarification Technique can proceed more optimally and sustainably.

Abstract

Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) instruction at the junior high school level still tends to focus on cognitive attainment, while the strengthening of multicultural attitudes such as tolerance, mutual respect, and inclusiveness has not yet been fully integrated into the learning evaluation process. This condition highlights the need to develop PAI evaluation that not only measures knowledge, but also captures the development of students’ attitudes and behaviours in appreciating diversity. This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of multicultural-oriented PAI learning evaluation at SMP Purnama Sumpiuh. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. Data were analyzed systematically through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that PAI learning evaluation has integrated multicultural values through attitude assessment, process assessment, and learning outcome assessment. Teachers do not rely solely on written tests, but also use attitude observation, assignments, and student reflections to assess cognitive, affective, and social aspects in a more balanced manner. Nevertheless, constraints remain in the form of limited attitude assessment instruments and suboptimal use of evaluation results as feedback for improving instruction. The study concludes that multicultural-oriented PAI learning evaluation has been implemented in a reasonably comprehensive manner but still requires strengthening in the development of assessment instruments and the management of evaluation results. The implications underscore the need for more systematic, contextual, and continuous evaluation instruments and for enhancing the feedback function of evaluation as a basis for teacher reflection in realizing PAI instruction that nurtures tolerant and inclusive attitudes.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited research on the use of storytelling about the lives of the Prophets in inculcating Islamic values in early childhood, despite its substantial influence on the formation of children’s akidah and akhlaq in the era of globalization. The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the storytelling method using stories of the Prophets in instilling Islamic values in young children at TK ABA Bendosari. A qualitative case study design was employed, involving two teachers and one principal selected purposively. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using an interactive analysis model. The findings show that the storytelling method is effective in instilling akidah values (for example, recognizing Allah and His attributes) and akhlaq values (honesty, patience, compassion) in children, as reflected in the emerging understanding and internalization of Islamic values in their daily behavior. These results underscore the importance of storytelling as an enjoyable and meaningful instructional strategy in early childhood education and provide recommendations for educators and PAUD institutions to optimize its implementation. The study also opens avenues for further research on innovations in storytelling media and the enhancement of parental involvement in the inculcation of Islamic values in children.

Abstract

The moral challenges faced by students in the era of digital transformation require educational institutions to strengthen character formation not only through formal learning, but also through applied and continuous activities. Religious extracurricular activities are regarded as an effective strategy for shaping students’ morals through the habituation of religious values and the direct practice of religious rituals. This study aims to analyze the implementation of religious extracurricular activities and their contribution to improving students’ morals at MA Mamba’ul Ulum Megaluh Jombang. A descriptive qualitative approach with a field research design was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation involving the head of the madrasah, the vice-principal for student affairs, activity supervisors, and students participating in the extracurricular programs. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings show that religious extracurricular activities such as khatmil Qur’an, tilawah Al-Qur’an, al-banjari, muhadharah, and the commemoration of Islamic holy days contribute positively to students’ moral formation, particularly in fostering discipline, responsibility, cooperation, religious awareness, and courteous behaviour. Nevertheless, the implementation of these activities still faces constraints in the form of limited time, varying levels of student motivation, and inadequate supporting facilities. The study concludes that religious extracurricular activities can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening students’ moral education, provided they are implemented in a structured and consistent manner and supported by strong institutional commitment.
