Abstract

This study aims to identify, classify, and analyze emotive interjections expressing 'admiration' in the Acehnese language using the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) approach. The method applied is descriptive qualitative with verbal data containing interjections. The research data source was obtained from the daily conversations of the Acehnese people in four regions, namely Aceh Besar, North Aceh, East Aceh, and West-South Aceh. Each region was represented by 3 informants who met the criteria, such as speaking Acehnese as their mother tongue, aged between 30 and 50 years, and were willing to become informants. The techniques of collecting the data include observation, recording and recording. Data analysis was carried out in several steps, namely data identification and inventory, classification and data analysis based on categories and meaning of emotive interjections. The research results show that emotive interjections in Acehnese include alahuwe, ômmi, ômma, ômman, ômmen, ômma ôi, bak budik, bak budôk, alah mak ôi, lahwa ôi, ie eh ek, ek, ôku, ôdu, and bah. These interjections can be grouped into several emotive subcategories based on their semantic components: 1) 'I feel that something good has happened,' 2) 'I feel that something good will happen,' and 3) 'I feel that something like this is impossible.' Each subcategory has specific meaning characteristics and usage within the cultural and linguistic context of Aceh. This research contributes significantly to a more comprehensive understanding of the Acehnese language, particularly regarding the semantics of emotive interjections, and may serve as a foundation for further studies on interjections in other regional languages in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the rules of subject ellipsis in subordinate constructions of the Acehnese language. The research employs a qualitative method using note-taking and document analysis techniques. The data for this study consists of written texts (complex/subordinate sentences) obtained from various sources, such as Acehnese language books and Acehnese grammar books. Additionally, data from artificial sources were also included. The results show that there are rules for subject ellipsis in subordinate constructions. The rules are as follows: First, the presence of shared understanding (mafhum). In a subordinate construction, there are two types of constituents: those that are explicitly mentioned and those that are understood. The explicitly mentioned constituent is one that is clearly stated, while the understood constituent is one that is inferred from the context of the construction. This means that the understood constituent is omitted because it is already comprehended from the previous constituent. Generally, the understood constituent appears after the explicitly mentioned constituent. Second, both constituents function as subjects. This rule explains that one of two constituents with the same reference can be omitted if both serve as subjects in the clause. Third, there is a difference in syntactic functions. This means that subject ellipsis in subordinate clauses can still occur as long as the controlling constituent does not share the same function as other constituents in the main clause (the controlled constituent functions as the subject, while the controlling constituent can function as the subject, object, complement, or adverbial).

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the spelling mistakes and the causes of spelling mistakes in scientific articles of students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Department. By knowing this, students will comprise scientific papers that are good and correct, and in accordance with the rules. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The sources of research data were students' scientific articles of the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature, which are the products of team-based projects during Comparative Literature (fifth semester). The researcher chose four scientific articles to obtain the research results to be achieved or called the purposive sampling method. This research used an analytical method, namely the orthographic equivalent method, whose determining tool is writing with the concept of EYD and language errors. The results of this study are that students of the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature still often make Indonesian language mistakes in working on team-based project products in the form of scientific articles. This is due to the lack of understanding of students in the use of spelling in accordance with the rules. Then, students are less careful and lazy in checking the use of spelling. Therefore, students need to get training in writing (the use of spelling and Indonesian language rules) in order to become competent students in their fields according to the profile of graduates (research assistants, academics, and practitioners).

The main focus of this research is on five types of taur-taur, namely Taur taur bahtonang, taur taur simbandar, taur taur Balok ganjang, Taur taur urdo-urdo, and Taur taur tangis-tangis. Each type of taur-taur has unique characteristics whether in terms of melody, lyrics, or social functions within the Simalungun community. Through a qualitative approach, this study finds that taur-taur has distinctive features that set it apart from other forms of folk singing. Musical analysis using Crishty's theory and Merriam's ethnomusicology theory provides a deeper understanding of the vocal techniques and symbolic meanings contained within taur-taur. This research concludes that the preservation of taur-taur is crucial for maintaining Indonesia's cultural diversity. One of the preservation efforts that can be undertaken is to introduce taur-taur to the younger generation through music education.

Abstract

In the Pixar film "Turning Red," family serves as a crucial vessel for transmitting culture and ideology, particularly evident in the Chinese family dynamics portrayed within a modern Canadian society. This observation aligns with the premise that families are fundamental in shaping individuals' beliefs and values. This study explores the family dynamics depicted in the Pixar film "Turning Red" by applying Van Wel's (1994) theory of family bonding and Pecchioni and Nussbaum's (2001) theory of family conflict. The objective is to gain a nuanced understanding of how these theories illuminate the complex relationship between Mei, a thirteen-year-old protagonist experiencing a magical panda transformation, and her overprotective mother, Ming. A qualitative methodology is employed, analyzing scenes from the movie that exemplify bonding and conflictual behaviors. As findings, there are seven bonding values that found in this movie, namely attachment, commitment, interdependence, closeness, trust, intimacy, and love. Conflict values are also found that consist of five aspects. This study contributes to the understanding of family relationships in media by demonstrating how family bonding and conflict theories can be applied to analyze the intricacies of parent- child interactions.
