Abstract

In recent years, the integration of internet technology, particularly platforms like YouTube, has revolutionized the way that we learn about arts and culture. This presentation explores the concept of the "Digital Budayawan," a term coined to describe the modern-day cultural custodians who harness digital tools to preserve, share, and teach music from diverse global traditions. The accessibility of online platforms has democratized music education, enabling individuals from various cultural backgrounds to learn and engage with world musics beyond geographical limitations. YouTube serves as a virtual classroom where learners can access tutorials, performances, and ethnomusicological insights from around the globe, often directly from native practitioners. Blogs and social media extend this educational landscape by providing spaces for dialogue, reflection, and the dissemination of musicological knowledge. This digital shift has empowered both educators and learners, fostering a more inclusive and interconnected global community of music enthusiasts. However, it also raises questions about authority, authenticity, and what it means to be an educational institution. This presentation examines these dynamics, highlighting how the "Digital Budayawan" navigates the balance between preserving cultural integrity and embracing technological innovation in the field of music education.

Abstract

he gap in listening skills between students in rural and urban areas is still a problem that has not been resolved comprehensively. This study aims to identify and analyze the differences in listening skills of students living in rural and urban areas and the factors that influence these skills. The research method used was a quantitative survey with a descriptive approach, involving 125 students through propositional sampling in Bengkulu from various universities in rural and urban areas in Bengkulu Province. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, then analysed using simple descriptive statistics. The results of the study showed that the condition of student listening activities between rural and urban areas from the average aspect was no different, in the sufficient category with an average range of 2.61-3.40 (3.32 rural; 3.36 urban). Aspects of media access, difficulty, and materials showed differences in categories in the aspect of listening materials in rural areas, namely good/supportive (3.47). Urban students tend to have difficulty listening effectively because they are exposed to too much information from various digital platforms, which reduces their concentration and understanding. Rural areas tend to listen more to local story-based content and traditional themes, which limits their exposure to global issues and modern content. Factors such as access to educational resources, social environment, and family support have been found to play an important role in shaping students' listening skills.

Abstract

This paper examines the process of documenting the experiences and memories of transmigrants in Sungai Bahar. The memories and experiences of the early transmigrants of Sungai Bahar need to be documented as they age and the number of actors decreases. The results of the documentation can be used as historical sources. The documentation is done digitally which can be accessed by all groups. The documentation results show that the transmigrants have their own experiences starting from the registration process, departure to placement in Sungai Bahar. Furthermore, placement in the Bahar River with forest conditions and partly in the form of oil palm plantations is a challenge for migrants in the Bahar River forest. The existence of documentation that can be accessed by all groups can facilitate documentation and disseminate historical sources for academics or history owners or residents.

This study aims to analyze and understand word formation process of Netspeak in cyber media. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with a virtual ethnography method. Data collection was carried out through full observation, screenshots, and diary routines without conducting interviews. After the data was collected, the data was analyzed using the Boellstorff concept, namely 1) systematizing data, 2) creating data thematization, and 3) narrating and building arguments. The results of the study shown that the word formation process found in this study includes acronyms, blending, clipping, borrowing, special symbols, combinations of symbols with numbers, combinations of letters with numbers, use of letter symbols as representations, derivation, reduplication, use of Emoticons or Emojis, use of capital letters and abbreviations which reflect the adaptive behavior of language users towards the need for fast and efficient communication.

Abstract

Utterances in the political field can be powerful things to communicate, influence regulation, or make big mass mobility. However, people have a lack of capability to interpret the meaning. It creates problems such as false understanding, apathy, and division. Based on the problems, the aim of the research is to describe and explain the conversational implicature utterances in the biggest democratic party in Indonesia, the president candidate's first debate. A descriptive qualitative method has been used consisting of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The data were collected by taping- taking notes with purposive sampling. The validities were checked by theories, resources, and methods triangulations. Based on the result, the conversational implicatures consist of 1) description of president candidates background and their vision and mission that relate to the debate topic, 2) request to citizens to have critical thinking of political problems, 3) critique to decrease the electability of other president candidates by describing their failures or violation, 4) clarification for the allegation from other president candidates, 5) persuasion to citizens to vote the speaker by showing achievement and dedication. The conversational implicatures have been conveyed well. The first implicature becomes the most dominant data. This means, in a conversational implicature perspective, the speakers mostly use utterances as media to describe their vision and mission which consists of making regulations and solving problems in law, human rights, anticorruption, democracy, strengthening, public service improvement, and community as the representation of political power. Keywords: power, utterances, Indonesian president candidates first debate, pragmatic, conversational implicature.

Abstract

Criticizing others research in discussion section of research article is important to show the writers confidence in presenting the result of their research. However, it has not really noted by Indonesian writers. This recent research is aimed at finding the use of ACUs as the strategies to refer to others result in discussion section of research articles write in Bahasa Indonesia and in English by international writers in the field of linguistics and literature. 40 RADs were analysed to find out the ACUs used in RADs and the linguistics features of each units. The analysis is based on the Academics Conflict Units framework proposed by Sadeghie and Alinasab : 2020. The result revealed that the ACUs used in the RADs is different in number between the same field of study in different language used. In linguistics study the occurrences is quite similar in number but different in the type of ACUs used. Interestingly in literature study, Indonesian writers used more ACUs than international writers but both Indonesian and International writers only used Proposing Claims as the strategy to present their findings. It might due the different research area and topic of each research. These findings offer theoretical and pedagogical insight into the academic writing (especially research articles writing) instruction for Indonesian. Since the corpus of the data were only 40 RADs, further research with larger corpus of the data will be beneficial to get general pattern of ACUs used in RADs.

Abstract

Pecutan is part of the property used in the Abdul Muluk Tradition Theater performance. The Pecutan are made of wood or bamboo, the length of which is adjusted as desired. Abdul Muluk is a traditional theater that developed around the 1930s in Jambi Province, Indonesia. It tells the story of King Abdul Muluk who is wise in leading his kingdom. The story of Abdul Muluk comes from the poem Sultan Abdul Muluk written by King Ali Haji during the Malay Empire. This research aims to analyze Pecutan as a myth in Abdul Muluk's traditional theater performance. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach that aims to understand the perspectives of actors and audiences of Abdul Muluk's traditional theater regarding Pecutan. Data was obtained through observation of video documentation of Abdul Muluk's traditional theater performances which focused on the myth and the use of Pecutan. Data was also obtained through in-depth interviews with actors, audiences, and theater artists in Jambi. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman Model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results of the Pecutan myth show the meaning of masculinity seen in the King Figure in the story—cultural representation of the people of Jambi Province regarding Pecutan as a marker of an order. Pecutan has an important role in the performance, namely as a marker for the entry of music, the start of dialog, and the transition of dialog. These findings provide a deep understanding of how Pecutan can reflect the culture of the people of Jambi Province only through Abdul Muluk's traditional theater performances. With a better understanding of this, the government, culturists, artists, and traditional actors can maintain and preserve Pecutan, which will become a valuable art asset in the future.

Abstract

This study explores the conceptual metaphor of "Mangroves are machines" within the framework of ecolinguistics, analyzing how language shapes our understanding of mangroves and their role in environmental conservation. This research employs a conceptual metaphor theory to dissect how this metaphor influences public perception, policy discourse, and conservation efforts. The data were taken from discourses circulated within the mangrove conservation. The study reveals that languages disseminated within the conservation area use some specific linguistics expression that eventually led to the comprehension that mangroves can be easily understood in the concept of machineries. This metaphor not only underscores the ecological importance of mangroves but also promotes a mechanistic view of nature that can influence both positive and negative attitudes towards conservation. The findings suggest that while the metaphor effectively communicates the critical functions of mangroves, it also exposes variations of concepts in order to make the term of mangrove more familiar.
